Rat37 - Very Random AWE

Hope I haven't held this too long, but the good news is, I am done with this turnset. Furthermore, I now am feeling that we are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. This thing feels winnable now. We can build more armies, with leaders and the Military Academy, so we should load the ones on the other continent with 4 Cavs. I had 4 leaders total, 3 became Cav armies, 1 rushed the Pentagon, and I lost 1 Mace army. I think we should burn the Greek core and the Egyptian core with 4 Cav armies and resettle those lands, the islands are almost negligible. That continent has probably enough land to reach Domination, though we will need bunches of settlers. Here is my turn-log:

Utica Courthouse=>Cavalry.

Turn 1, 1655 AD: Redline and kill the Greek Cavalry.
Founded Support Our Troops.

Greeks land a Rifle and 6 Cavs near Isles End.
After all these turns, Hattusha flips.
New Aleppo Worker=>Worker.
Hlobane Cavalry=>Cavalry.
New Isandlhwana Worker=>Worker.
Wanabe Worker=>Worker.
Thingy Worker=>Worker.
New Tugela Worker=>Worker.

Turn 2, 1660 AD: Easily retake Hattusha.
Bombard and kill all intruders, losing 1 *elite Cavalry.

IBT: Typical bombardment, Korea lands 1 Cavalry near Aleppo. Scary moment, both pillaging Cav armies attacked by Cavalry. No builds complete.

Turn 3, 1665 AD: Killing the Korean Cavalry generates a leader!
I make an army with him.

IBT: Typical bombardment, Korea lands another Cavalry near Aleppo.
Bapedi Courthouse=>Marketplace.
Isandlhwana Frigate=>Frigate.
New Mpondo Worker=>Worker.

Turn 4, 1670 AD: Even less to do. Kill the Korean Cavalry.

IBT: Typical bombardment, Greeks land 2 Cavalry near Ibabanago and 2 near New Umtata. No builds complete.

Turn 5, 1675 AD: Killing the 2 Cavalry on Iron Island pays huge dividends, get 2 straight leaders! 1 becomes another army; the other is used to rush the Pentagon in Isandlhwana. The Cavalry on Hittite Island are more stubborn, lose a Crusader trying to kill one.

IBT: Typical bombardment, 1 Greek Longbow landing at Ibabanago, but several transport type vehicles are within our waters. Come close to losing a Mace army to a Rifle, probably will next turn.
Ulundi Cavalry=>Cavalry.
Isandlhwana Pentagon=>Frigate.

Turn 6, 1680 AD: Land another Army in Egypt. I think we have enough to load in a 4th unit and begin wiping enemy cities off the map.

IBT: Typical bombardment, Greeks land 4 Cavalry near Ibabanago. As expected, red-lined Mace army is killed.
Tyrana Worker=>Cannon.
Ankuwa Worker=>Wealth.
Alaca Huyuk Temple=>Cannon.
New Ulundi Cannon=>Cannon.
Emar Cannon=>Cannon.
Centralia Courthouse=>Barracks.

Turn 7, 1685 AD: Killing the Greek Cavalry, I lose 1 of ours.

IBT: Our Cavalry army survives a Longbow….my AI patrol setting may be at fault here.
New Mpondo riots.
Isles End starves.
New Swazi Worker=>Wealth.

Turn 8, 1690 AD: Continue terrorizing the Greek countryside. Land a 2nd Army in Egypt to cover the first, time to do some damage.

IBT: Typical bombardment, Greeks land a Cavalry, 2 Longbows, and a Rifle near Isles End.

Turn 9, 1695 AD: 7 shots by Cannons hit that Rifle once, this could get ugly.
Frigate pings him too. All goes well, Cavalry wins clean over the Rifle, Cav vs Cav wins -1hp, Mace on LB, -2 hp, and eCav on LB -3hp. Next battle would have been a loss, I bet. Kill a Pike and a Spear clean with 4 Cav army, Buto destroyed.

IBT: Lots of bombardment, 1 railroad destroyed. Greeks land 3 Cavalry near Utica.
Hlobane Cavalry=>Cavalry.
Umfolozi Cavalry=>Cavalry.

Turn 10, 1700 AD: First off ping the landing with our paltry mainland artillery, then kill all 3, losing 2, 1 and 3hp. Lose 4 hp killing a Rifle and Musket, Buhen destroyed.

1700AD Looks ok.

1705AD (331) Redline and sink 2 Greek frigates

IBT- Egyptian rifle attacks cav army and loses
Greece lands 3 LBs at Isles End.

1710AD- Sink red Greek frigate and galleon. Kill the 3 LBs at Iles End with cav.
2 cav armies kill 3 rifles at Sparta. Another rifle still shows. The two armies are down to 8 and 5 hp. Kill Egyptian rifle and musket and take Avaris.

IBT- Some bombardment

1715AD- Have to abandon Avaris.

IBT- Greek cav comes out and kills one of our yellow cav armies and redlines the other. Greece lands 3 cav at Ibabngo.

1720AD- Flee to the mountains with the other cav army, but have to kill an LB to get there and others are lurking. It will almost certainly die IBT. Kill rifle and musket and take Egyptian town of Asyut.

IBT- Greeks hunt down and destroy the second cav army. :cry:

1725AD- Cav army attacks Hieraconopolis, kills 2 rifles and takes the city. Sell off improvements and raze it. Abandon Asyut. Misclick and send a galleon off by a privateer. Well that’s about the way this set has gone. :sad:

IBT- Greece lands another MI. Korea lands a cav at Support our Cause

1730AD- Kill both units.

IBT- Minor bombardment. Electricity>Medicine in 10.

1735AD- Bring some cav overseas.

IBT- Greece wants to talk. Refused, they land 4 units at Isles End.

1740AD- Kill all 4 Greek units, gain 2 elite promotions.

IBT- More bombardment.

1745AD- Found New Umfolzi on Greek/Egyptian mainland.

IBT- More bombardment. Lose the harbor at Iron Jungle.

1750AD- Ship 3 elite cav off Iron Island and onto our bridgehead on the Greek/Egyptian mainland. 141 gold and 1 gpt. Medicine in 6 and done.

Post turn- Well losing 2 armies was not in the plan obviously. I really don’t like 3-cav armies. No excuses, but they are so much more vulnerable than 4’ers. In New Umfolzi we have 2 full cav armies, a mace army, 8 single cav, 2 cannons and 2 settlers. I would suggest we grind forward with that and the reinforcements the homeland will deliver. Military Academy will be done in 1, and we can start with the ToE pre-build. Thinking farther out, we should look at taking RP and Nationalism if we don’t research it. I don’t think Hoover buys us much of anything, and drafting infantry will help us considerably.

The ex-Hittite lands are without an army, but no issues there as all landings are single units. We do have another cav army forted at Alexandria who bumped off a settler pair recently. Another Mace army is by Heliopolis.

well...I agree 3 cav armies without the added bonus of the Mil Academy can be pretty weak

I also agree on taking techs that help us. Hoover is pretty useless here anyway.

I got it, but since Greebley is having computer issues, I will play slow

I think the armies need a healthy army on top no mattter what, 3 units or 4, as the AI sees armies as their base defense, and once they are damaged are targets. Losing 3 armies in 2 turnsets hrts, but hopefully the landings continue, so armies can be replaced by new ones. Sounds like a rough turnset, hope we can get this gamedone before infantry and bombers show up.

Pre-Turn
MM some and change Hlobane to a palace for the ToE prebuild in case we need it

send out 2 armies to block off the part of the Island we should be able to claim
send out a third to cover a settler

IT Egypt loses 2 units, Greeks bombard annoyingly

1. 1752AD
take out 4 Egyptian units to snatch a settler pair and mislead the enemy at the choke
found 2 new cities
take out a musket behind the choke and take out Lisht

defeat 3 cavalry on the iron Island

2. 1754AD
found another city, clear a rifle behind our lines

3. 1756AD
found another city and close off the choke, our other armies are slowly coming back so we can then venture out again
defeat 2 Greek landings

4. 1758AD
plant yet another city to lower unit support
clear a larger landing on the iron island, this is getting scarier

5. 1760AD
defeat 7 units blocking the choke so we can move forward next turn

IT medicine is in, sci methods takes 12 turns currently

6. 1762AD
move armies forward

7. 1764AD
another round of landings we need to clear
some progress is finally made when we raze Byblos

IT Tyrana flips to Greece

8. 1766AD
take the city back
move armies forward and open the choke to attract the enemy

9. 1768AD
raze heliopolis on the way to Greek territory
take out a Greek settler pair along the way
take out 2 landings

IT Greece starts to land more units on the other Island

10. 1770AD
finally get a MGL taking out a rifle on the iron Island

lose a cav and shop over more units to Island #2, there is a galleon filled with 3 workers and settler meant for the
big Greek Island
take out Mycenea, manage to take out a Korean settler pair

I can take this tomorrow, I have no other plans ATM.

He posted this yesterday in another game "Will take this as soon as I finish my RAT37 turnset. Look good overall. "

I am nearly finished have 2 turns left, will be done in a short time. Sorry I have been slow, this game has turned into a slog through the mud.

Edit: Done with this turnset. Nothing eventful, built a bunch of tundra towns in olde Egypt, fought off a steady stream of landings and settlers and further pillaged Greece. I never managed to burn any Greek cities, due to the armies being pinged by destroying settler pairs. ALSO had no leader luck despite quite a few elite battles. Here is the turn-log:

The save:

Whoa, what's up with this? We playing PTW?

I have a guess. I created this game with the default rules of the scenario editor so I could play it. While the civ executable is patched, I wonder if the editor wasn't or even if I ran the wrong editor? and so has the older tech tree. I am not an expert unfortunately at making scenarios. What I wanted is a scenario that is identical to the orginal game so it doesn't store the 'time' which is in a format I cannot read and so cannot load a save from a normal start, though scenarios work fine.

So I think this is my fault. Sorry about that. Looks like we have some older rules (only of things that one can change in the editor) Not sure what all is affected.

As long as it plays out okay, it doesn't matter, and if it was going to glitch, it would have already. I have noticed nothing else odd, so it should be fine.

Preturn: Do some MM. Decide to use the Armies. One moves north and the other takes out a Rifle in Herakliea (and now has to heal after a single 2 hp Rifle)

IBT: A Korean Infantry is dropped off. Also a landing of Cavalry from the Greeks. Army stack is bombarded.

1792 AD: Well our first Elite victory gains a leader to make up for Overseers' lack thereof.
Kill off landings. Lose a Cav to a 1 hp Cav. Three Cavalry Armies are now together, but need healing this turn. Greece has enough ships to bombard Armies now.

1794 AD: Raze Herakleia with one Army healing this turn. These 2 hp Rifles are tough though and more healing is needed now. Way is fully opened to pull units south for a few turns (depending on what shows up).

1976 AD: Armies healing.

1978 AD: Armies healing still. Kill off 2 Settlers. A 4th Cav army has headed North.
Greeks towns have Infantry.

1800 AD: Another settler killed. Send an Army north to repillage. Everything will be reroaded by now. Cavalry are showing up near the choke now.

IBT: Korean landing near new Umtata - will rename city to Korean Landings.

1802 AD: Get another Leader. Capture Pharsalos as it has at least Sistine, when it has only Sistine and I cannot defend it from Cavalry, I abandon it so Sistine is no more.

IBT: Greek land their first Guerilla. They have been landing things most turns all on our Iron island, even though I haven't mentioned it each round.

1804 AD: Unhappiness from Pharsolos goes to a city on the Iron island instead of the size 1 cities to the south. A bit of a miscalculation, but some Irrigation and we gain in science

1806 AD: Egyptian town of This is razed. Argos is razed.

1808 AD: Get a crash. Attack Thesselonica but get injured taking out an Infantry will heal next turn.

IBT: We get TOE and get Nationalism and Rep Parts.

1810 AD: El-Armarna is Razed. 'Greek city I didn't write the name down of' is razed. We are now up to the choke except for some cities off to the east.

Notes:
With rep parts and us not yet having factories, I sent some Workers to complete building roads so we can get everywhere.

I was building and chopping forests on the Greek/Egyptian continent. Any square with a mine on that continent has used up its forest. Next player can do this... or not.

We could capture up to the choke on the Greek continent. Egypt isn't sending much and Greece isn't either though a new town could attact more. Might be worth cutting roads near the choke and taking out Greeks that come south while start filling the empty land.

Can everyone guess why we are not building/going for Hoover? There is something that doesn't exist anywhere in our lands...

We now have 6 Cav Armies near the Greek territory, and 1 Cav and the two MDI/Sword armies back.

If you need to you can get the cannon back from the front to our continent. We have only 2 cannon and might need more for a landing.
