Preturn- stare at the game for a bit and can’t recall one where production is this miserable.

IBT- bombardment by AI.

1) 1505AD- ok, we built a frigate without a harbor. Tsk-tsk. :nono:

IBT- more bombardment. ToG->Steam in 20

2) 1510AD- nothing much

IBT- more bombardment. Greece drops off a cav at Ibabango

3) 1515AD- Bombard cav and attack with elite cav. Get MGL Cetshwayo.

IBT- Greece drops off an LB at Ibabango

4) 1520AD- Kill LB with vet cav. Form cav army at Zimbabwe.

IBT- Greece drops off a cav across from Swazi

5) 1525AD- Kill the Greek cav. Load the elite* cav into army.

IBT- Greeks have industrialization as they start US

6) 1530AD- Land 3 cav army on Egyptian mountain

IBT- Nothing of interest

7) 1535AD- Fort cav army in the mountains.

IBT- Greece lands 2 cav across from Swazi

8) 1540AD- Kill both Greek cav

IBT- Greece lands a cav at Ibabango

9) 1545AD- Cav army kills reg Egypt musket at Edfu. Kill Greek cav at Ibabango.

IBT- Greece lands cav at Iron Jungle

10) 1550AD- Elite MI kills Greek cav and we get MGL Mpande. :D Cav army kills reg musket and lone cav kills reg spear. Edfu falls. Reinforce (if you can call it that) the city with a pair of cannon and a settler. Sell off some trebs as I’ve been doing some ancient unit disbands to get the cash loss lessened. Now at 0 per turn with 2 gold in the kitty. Steam Power in 12 and done.

Post turn- I leave MGL Mpande for next up. Another cav army, or do we build the Pentagon with him? Holding Edfu against a deliberate attack may not be possible given what we have to work with. But we are making headway, if only at a maddeningly slow pace.

I agree, production, cash flow, research, wars, everything about this game has been slower or less than any other game I've ever played. Amazing, definitely a challenge.
 
Pre-Turn
MM a little and decide to use the MGL for another army

IT one landing and we gain a crusader

1. 1555AD
defeat the cavalry, but nothing much else

IT we defeat a frigate on defense. Kafu gets attacked by 1 Greek cavalry but repels the attack easily

2. 1560AD
found a new city to increase our income

IT we get another cavalry, this sort of stuff is an event in this game, I tell you

3. 1565AD
defeat a cavarly at Edfu followed by a mace

4. 1570AD
take out a mace and get a 1 cav army over

IT Egypt sends more troops to Edfu, but we get 3 more cavalry

5. 1575AD
take out 4 units at Edfu, but redline our 2nd army there

6. 1580AD
take out 3 units in Marathon, but it still stands

IT fighting around Edu is getting more intense with Greek frigates to make things a little more difficult

7. 1585AD
Egypt has 5 units next to Edfu

first take out 2 cavalry at Marathon and take abandon to be able to send back our army to Edfu
decide to let Egypt attack

IT Egypt loses 4 attackers
Greece lands 2 units on the iron Island

8. 1590AD
repel a total of 3 landed Cavs
things are starting to look better at Edfu as we can take out 3 more Egyptian units with our loose cavs

IT 3 Egyptian units and 4 Greek cavs are at Edfu now

9. 1595AD
take out all but 1 cav but have a red army again

IT 2 Greek cavs attack Edfu but lose

10. 1600AD
found another filler city for more unit support
we have to send more units to Edfu once we produce them and then start to send out our armies to raze the
enemy towns

steam is due in 1, I feel electricity can really help us here due to irrigation of the corrupt towns

btw, Emar has some units, we only need a transport for that Island

I was thinking of a major change and wanted to post here first for opinions. I think trying to hold a town vs Cavalry isn't the best approach. I was thinking of abandoning our town and sending the Armies out to pillage and destroy Greeks economy. Pillaging is especially deadly on a small map One they can only produce Rifles and Longbow, we can resettle the town and get bombardment before we are attacked. It will stop their tech as well if we ruin their roads.
 
I got no issue with a change in strategy, this game is so odd anyway, why not pillage them back to stone age
 
Pillaging their core might give us breathing room to get this thing won. We might want to trash all towns behind the choke, then close the choke with armies before we settle there. Holding towns against cavalry can be folly, I will agree. Once they only have only Rifles and Longbows, then we can settle that tundra area.
 
Preturn: Looks reasonable.

IBT: 2-3 Cavalry attack our city.

1605 AD: Changing to a pilage strategy. Abandon town after moving out non-armies.

1610 AD: Land a MDI Army as well.

1515 AD: Clear two landings on the iron island.

1620 AD: Our Cav armies are finally getting off the peninsula. It has been slow going with the forests and mountains.
Building workers for RR work

1625 AD: Kill landing on Iron island. Almost miss landing Near New Aleppo home of the Hittites.
Lose a Cav (doing no damage) fighting another Cav for that landing.
I will be doing some disband of older units to keep cost down.

1630 AD: Four Cavs to deal with on the Iron island. Place two towns for unit support. Spot Egyptian Iron and Saltpeter.

1635 AD: Our attacks are completely pathetic. We lose a Cav vs Cav and MDI vs MDI and practically every attacking unit is at 1 or 2 hp. Spot Greek Saltpeter.
Another town placed.

1640 AD: First Korean landing which is on our home continent near Ngome.
Final town placed. Greeks have a second Saltpeter, Egypt a second Iron.

1645 AD: Get Leader and make Army.

1650 AD: Army loses 8 hp trying to kill a 4 hp Cavalry. Find another Saltpeter for Greece.

Notes:
I built some cities for more support, but I am not at all sure they were a good idea. Too close to the capital. Take them down if you want.

Landings are mostly near Rebirth but can appear other places.

4 Armies are pillaging.

Got the save, will start play tomorrow. I will pillage the Greeks to eliminate their ability to make good units and then begin burning their cities.
 
Stack the armies when you start razing. Sometimes the AI is more willing to attack Armies when they are the only thing on the contient, and of course the MDI armies are very fragile - its often good to attack from hills or Mountains or be under a cavalry Army.
 
Sorry I've been so slow...love is pretty demanding of ones' time, Civ 3 is kind of losing out, I will try to set aside some alone time to play enough to finish my turns.
