RB8 - Multiplayer Madness

Just as couple of comments from the Japanese side of things:

- I worked mostly on worker actions and infrastructure, but there is one settler being built.
- We'll need many more workers to make any northern cities productive with all the jungle, so take that into account before settling.
- I used the whip extensively. We have a bunch of high food cities. Keep in mind the happiness penalties already accrued if you decided to whip as well.
- Stone city has a worker ready to chop it's lone forest for help on an obelisk, but that is a vetoable decision. I think we can spare the production for the quick fix though, with the hill and stone in the radius.
- There is an axeman on a goto to our galley, to be sent to the island city south of Kyoto (I think it's Edo). We need military there for happy's.

Good luck to the next team...this really is a fun idea when it's moving along.

Snaproll

How many turns are we playing? I will be available for part of the day on Thurs. I will log onto MSN if someone is there and wants to give it a go, then I will play.

Atlas

Lets stick with 20 turns per round for now.

I'm going to PM Morred, Uniqueuponhim, and Thunderbunny, but I'm assuming for now that they are MIA. Our roster stands at:

Snaproll (Just Played)
Drasca
Chriseay (Just Played)
Thormdor
Atlas

Down to just 5 players. I'll wait to see if I get responses from those three, at which point I'll try to recruit some more players. Although, last time I tried to recruit players it didn't work.

What do people think? Is this going to work? What about lurkers? Why are you reluctant to join a game of this type?

I was initially confused about how you were intending to run the game, but it makes more sense once you got started. If I wasn't so busy with other SGs, other projects and RL I'd be up for it.

sorry about that, its been busy at work and I've also had a few people drop by unexpectedly for a day or two to visit. I've also been trying to figure out my schedule, and I've finally realized that I just won't be able to play this game until march at the earliest (next few weeks involve more friends, work, a ski trip, and then a 3-week business trip where I won't be able to play due to there being no mac version), so its probably best if I pull out.

Apologies for not being around, timing just didn't work out.

Okay, I'm back from the beach. I apologize for not posting my absence here, I just assumed my post in the skips thread would be noticed, I'm ready to play whenever.

Now is a very busy time of year for me so I don't believe I can put in the effort needed so I will take my name off the list. Sorry about that. I will still monitor your progress with interest. Good luck to all. I hope you can find another player quick.

We are down to:

Snaproll (Just Played)
Drasca
Chriseay (Just Played)
Morred
Atlas

Any lurkers that would like to jump into this and get some multiplayer experience, please let me know. We are accepting any new players that want to join. I'll advertise in the Registry as well. Lets keep this one going - I know it's experimental and hard to find a matchup, but I'm determined to keep trying.

got it Drasca and I are playing now

(0) 1 AD Germany: changed to lighthouses and libraries around. Do not need obelisks right now. Revolting to hereditary rule. Altas and I decide to pursue great library research wise

Workers and libraries. Mostly infrastructure for germany and japan.

2...3. snooze

4 100 AD Barb axeman spotted to east of zhou. Bah, didn't have spare warrior to fogbust there. Axe started in zhou for later whipping

5

6 Fur hooked up. Parthenon started in Hamburg, done in 14. Forests near hamburg should not be chopped. We need their shields later on.

7..11 snooze. Worker worker, fishing boat, obelisk, lighthouse. Standard infrastructure stuff.

12 300 Wondering what to do with GPP. Parth in 7 with MM. Pit stop to monotheism, to grab christianity if possible. Should've done this earlier, but oh well.

13 325 Wine hooked up for much needed happiness.

14 350

15 375 Popped theology. Osaka has founded christianity. Axeman sent on hill in hopes barbarian will take bait.

16 400 Bait taken. Barb threat gone permanently. Snooze. Workboats, infra, infra.

18 Decide to try to grow Berlin. Doable in 2, just as we finish our turnset.

19 475 Parthenon complete. Lit finished next turn

20 Workshop next to kago for faster obelisk. This is going to be a commerce/whip city, and will need a workshop or two for any shields outside of the whip.

Tokyo will have Great scientist or Engineer in next turnset. Music and Mathematics is my choice. We do need optics, but over a possible free great artist? or hanging gardens? We're working on mathematics, which is required for both Music and Currency.

Germany needs more infrastructure while expanding but this is not a huge concern, as Germany's paying only 30% its economy to city maintenence. Go nuts expanding if you can keep up the with workers. Berlin needs that hill mined south of it, and also a farm or two. High production, not commerce. Hamburg's forest/plain tiles should not be chopped. Hamburg needs as much base production as possible.

With literature done, next player needs to start Berlin on Great library, then decide to go with currency, CoL, or Music. I prefer music myself.

Wow! Making it multiplayer really slows you down, doesn't it.

I would play, except that I don't have Civ4, or a computer to run it on.

Pictures and Save are coming.

Okay, let’s get this started. I’m Tokugawa, Snap is Bismarck, we decide to play 15 turns.
Everything looks okay at my end, there are a few health and happiness problems though, so we’re going to have to stunt growth for a while I feel.

Turn 1: Forge built in Edo, begins on a Harbor. Some workers start removing Jungles around Japan.

Turn 2: Axeman trained in Osaka, starts on a Harbor to counter the health problem

Turn 3: Christian Monastery built in Kyoto, starts on a Christian Temple

RB81.jpg

Meanwhile I have to turn research down to 50% to afford it.

Turn 4: Zzz

Turn 5: Mathematics researched, Imhotep, great Engineer popped in Berlin. We decide to use it to rush the Hanging Gardens.

RB811.jpg

We start researching currency, due in 9.

What we really need to research ASAP techwise is Code of Laws, Optics and Calendar, we really need to lower this upkeep.

Turn 6: Harbor built in Osaka, start on an Aqueduct

RB812.jpg

Turn 7: Settler built in Tokyo, start on Axeman. Granary built in Satsuma, start on Forge, and in big news, we missed out on the great Library by two turns!

RB813.jpg

As for the settler, there are two decent spots, but nothing great.

RB814.jpg

I am not going to build a new city yet, as I’d be digging a grave as far as my economy goes, it may be more viable after currency.

Turn 8: Yawn

Turn 9: Yawn * 2

Turn 10: With a border expansion, we can now access two more Ivory Resources, which are always nice.

RB815.jpg

Turn 11: This turn, the Aqueduct in Berlin is finally finished, and we can rush the Gardens, that benefits the whole team, so it’s a great wonder to build.

RB816.jpg

Turn 12:

RB817.jpg

Turn 13: Currency finished, we start on Calendar, Code of Laws ought to be next. Calendar due in 6. With Currency in, I go from running at about +1 a turn to +7, once Markets are built it will be even better. Economy-wise, Currency is the turn-around point of the game.

RB818.jpg

Obelisk finally built in Kagoshima, it will get a border expansion in a few turns, and once that happens, the two work boats there are to build fishing boats on those two fish resources.

Somehow, we managed to discover archery on the same turn as we discovered Currency, it was due in one turn normally, so maybe there was a queue or something we don’t know about. Nobody popped a hut or a Great Person, so both me and Snaproll have no idea how that happened.

Turn 14: Slow turn

Turn 15: Well, that’s the wrap from me and snap, I actually didn’t mean for that to rhyme :P
Anyway, we’ve pretty much consolidated, we managed a nice wonder, got our research path back on track, and by the time all the markets are built, our money problems will be solved.
A globe view.

Looks Good guys!!! Sorry about that extra settler:blush: Morred. Good call on holding him, if you build/capture a city at 50% research you get really far behind. Tough luck on the Great Library:sad:

Snap- is it 15 turns now? Should Drasca and I just try and coordinate on playing? Or are we gonna wait and see if one of the others wants it?

Nice work guys. I think the game is tilting in favour of the axis. ;)

15 turns is fine, 20 turns is fine, whatever the team up wants to do. We had limited time last night so we went with 15.

I think the game is tilting in favour of the axis.

We are going to be in for a rude awakening once we meet the other civs. It's 800 AD and we still don't have code of laws, yet Confucianism was founded in 975 BC as I recall. This is going to be a tech-hole the likes of which I've never seen! I think conquest is going to be our only hope. We might want to think about a massive samurai / catapult landing as soon as we can, followed by panzers. Might be facing some real technology differences when we hit them with Samurai!

Should Drasca and I just try and coordinate on playing?

It's first come, first serve, and I know Chriseay is still in the mix. Thormdor, does that post mean you are still interested? Coordinate with Drasca if you like, or any of the others! :)

I'm up for playing today for 10 or 15 turns if anyone is up for it. Have to make it relatively quick, I've got a good bit of reading to do, but playing isn't a problem. On the game.....we really really need to meet some other civs. I have to agree with snap, we are going to be in a major hole. Hopefully we can find someone who'll be an easy conquer.

Turn 1 - A bunch of archers finish....I'm thinking this is for mp duty. I may still turn some cities on avoid growth. I build a workboat in Berlin to harvest some crabs....it takes one turn.

Turn 2 - Drasca revolts the Japanese to Org. Rel. Not much else happens.

Turn 3 - zzzz

Turn 4 - Calendar comes in, we go for code of laws for courthouses.

Turn 5 - Germany gets enough archers built that unhappiness goes away...I do have avoid growth on a couple of cities, so watch that when we get the calendar resources hooked up. Drasca's been doing the same thing in japan.

Turn 6 - zzzz

Turn 7 - Meet Roosevelt and Vicky. She is immediately to the north of Germany's island, don't know where FDR is.
civ4screenshot00634nw.jpg

We get open borders with them, and this is how far ahead in tech they are.
civ4screenshot00642am.jpg

Turn 8 - CoL comes in, now machinery for optics.

Turn 9 - zzzz

Turn 10 - Start a bunch of courthouses. Drasca gets a great engineer, which we save for now.

Turn 11 - Start sistine chapel in Berlin, 13 turns.

Turn 12 - zzzz

Turn 13 - There is a settler in the west ready to found at a spot that looks good to me, but we'll wait till some courthouses come online.....this'll be for the next player.

Turn 14 - zzzz

Turn 15 - zzzzz

Turn 16 - Machinery, on to optics.

Turn 17 - zzzzz

Turn 18 - zzzz

Turn 19 - nada

Turn 20 - Not much happened at all on our turnset. Finally made contact, and we aren't that far behind. Sistine chapel in 3 turns in Berlin. Optics in 2. Drasca adds that Japan has two settlers coming up soon, a missionary waiting caravels to go to germany.
