RB8 - Multiplayer Madness

Chris, you're right. I just like to grumble. You stood your ground, and I appreciate the reasoning you've given. Bird in hand worth two in bush, eh?

By the way, is stonehenge built yet? That would be a lot of use right now if we can get it.

Since we have the Oracle, the marble is not of dire import now, but I think we will want to have a city settled there and the marble connected to Berlin for a run at The Great Library, plus most of the Middle Age Wonders are marble wonders, with the exception of Chichen Itza and Angkor Wat (I think)(maybe Hagia Sopia too, Hagia Sophia actually might be useful with Serfdom for clearing that Japanese jungle). So the next or the second german settler might want to head in that direction

Thoughts on this?

Atlas

No hard feelings Drasca. I was just trying to figure out the reasoning, and liking to grumble is good enough for me. ;) I probably went a bit overboard with my reply anyway (I was a little tired at work this morning, the mp game last night went a little late for me).

On stonehenge, I don't remember/know. Probably, but you're right, if we can get it, that'd be excellent.

I do agree soon we'll want to get to the marble, my plan would be probably the next settler to the east, and then one or maybe two more to the northwest.

I managed to log in from my trip. Glad to see that everything was resolved peacefully. :D

Uniqueuponhim, you out there? Let us know what's up or we;ll have to skip you:

Snaproll (out of town)
Drasca
Chriseay (Just Played)
Thunderbunny (Skip)
Uniqueuponhim (Up Now)
Thormdor (On Deck)
Atlas (Just Played)
Morred

Unique, you can play with Thunderbunny, Morred, Drasca, or me (but I can't play until tomorrow night). Let us know what's going on.

I think with this 'dynamic' roster method, 'skipping' is not a big deal. I say an "on deck" person, after a day's worth of wait, should be able to auto-announce "got it" and play with another available person. This does not really penalize the skipped person, as he'll be able to play the next round if it is within their schedules.

This system's spirit is to work with our play schedules, not against it. Thorm, feel free to play this game at your leisure, should you find one of us to play with.

Ok. Will do. Tomorrow night latish is good for me. I will check on MSN Messenger for players.

Ok, I'm lifting the restriction on not playing two turns in a row, in an effort to get things moving. All I ask is that you try not to play TOO many turns back to back. Thormdor, you can play with anyone. I'll be available to play starting tomorrow if you don't get it done before that.

To everyone, I can be found on MSN through my email- jring@email.unc.edu
If I am on MSN then I am available to play the SG, so just ring me up

EDIT: It seems that if someone plays two turns in a row, then switching which Civ you played with would mitigate that person's influence. Just a thought.

So

Turn 0- 1000BC I am playing Germany, since I ended 1000BC playing Japan and Drasca is playing Japan. We discuss building Stonhenge, but it will take 14 turns and decide to just build oblisks.

Turn 1-975BC Confucianism Founded in a land far far away....
Would like some warriors for barb suppresion as it seems likely that the crazies will come out soon. Finish settler in Berlin escort him with both warriors to Marbel site.

Turn 2-950BC Germans Revolt demanding Slavery

TUrn 3- Kill some barb warriors with warriors, actual move warrior into forest tile next to barb, they fall for that every time :) Berlin starts work on spearman, since iron came online, considering pillaging iron so that I can spam warriors for barb suppression, but decide that might be exploitative

Turn 4 900BC- Whip spearman in Berlin (there was 1 unhappy face already and it only cost 1 pop point) start on worker in Berlin and Hamburg

Turn 5....

Turn 6....

Turn 7....

Turn 8 800BC- Found Munich for that marvelous marbel. Work started on a granary

so this is Munich at the end of our turns...

Turn 10 Berlin Worker finishes-start granary due in 1 cause of chop. This worker is sent to Hamburg to build a road from Hamburg to Munich. THIS WORKER WILL STILL BE ON THIS GO TO ORDER AT THE START OF THE NEXT TURN. Sorry about the blatant violation of SG etiquite, but we need that road to that marbel.

Turn 11 725BC Axe started in Berlin. Edo founded. Stonehenge completes in a distant land, we would not have gotten it.

Pic of Edo

Turn 12 700 BC....

Turn 13 675 BC Hamburg Worker finishes with chop, borders due to expand in 3 turns so a Work boat seems good, due in 5. Worker will road to the rice and then farm once the borders expand

Turn 14 650BC ....

Turn 15 625BC Metal Casting comes in, boy that was a long time. Research set to writing due in 5. We have hopes of building the Colossus...

Turn 16 600BC

Turn 17 575BC Axeman in Berlin finishs forge ordered up

Turn 18 550BC Hamburg work boat finishs forge ordered up

Turn 19 525BC...

Turn 20 500BC...

Closing points- Drasca has expanded pretty aggresively, and Germany will want to do that soon too. To fund this Team Axis has set it's sights on the Colossus in Berlin and the Great Lighthouse in Kyoto, or somewhere else, maybe Tokyo. I again apologize for the long worker go to to Munich. Good luck to the next team. Also take a look at the next pic and consider getting that stone site settled, could be useful for germany, but we are running out of stone wonders to build.... Something to think about

here is the save, good luck to the next team!:) :)

Looks good guys, thanks for playing.

I'm available to play tonight if someone wants to jump in - just look for me on MSN.

I need a rollcall here to find out who's still playing this game. Atlas, Drasca and I are obviously still here. Thunderbunny, Uniqueuponhim, Thormodr, Chriseay, and Morred please check in so I can see where we stand.

Chriseay and I picked up the game and things look ok. We are hurting due to our lack of foreign contacts, and are falling behind in tech. As the last team suggested, we will continue to try for the Colossus and the Great Lighthouse.

The research on writing finished up just as we started our turns, and we had a discussion on what to go for next. We decided that getting caravels as soon as possible was the top priority over several important options, so we started on optics. Code of laws was another strong choice, but not the one we ultimately decided on.

As soon as Berlin finished its forge I started on the colossus, albeit without copper.

And not to much later Chriseay started on the Great Lighthouse.

Chriseay also grabbed the stone city and amazingly didn't take too much of a hit to his economy.

As I scouted around the eastern portion of the German continent, my spearman stumbled upon a barbarian city that was only defended by warriors! Well, you know what they say, fortune favors the bold! I attack! You can see the results below - 3 warriors killed in three turns, resulting in a free city and an extra worker!

11_barb5.JPG

Berlin finished up the Colossus, aided a bit by a forest chop. I started a barracks there to get us a few more barbarian defenders.

13_colossus.JPG

I founded Cologne on the northern spot with fish and cows. These coastal cities we more important now that we have the colossus. I started an obelisk there and am working one of the plains hills building an obelisk. It needed that border expansion as soon as possible to pull in both of its resources.

15_cologne.JPG

I popped a Great Prophet a few turns later and didn't really have much to do with him as the discussion shows. I kept him in Berlin for a future tech rush or a possible Golden Age. The next team can veto that decision. It's early enough that a superspecialist makes a lot of sense.

And two pics of the German and Japanese lands:

The next team should concentrate on spinning up our economy as much as possible and reducing our research times. Also, try to continue on towards Caravels - we need to find the other civs and start trading if we can.

Good luck!

Here is the save

This game has degenerated into essentially a first come basis. I'd still really like to hear from:

Thunderbunny
Thormdor
Uniqueuponhim
Morred

If you guys want to drop out, no hard feelings, just please let us know so we can look for more players. Thanks!

Yes, sorry about that. I am now ready to play and am impressed with our progress. I will try and play Tuesday or Wednesday night (Seoul time) if I can get a partner.
