RBD21 SG - The Extraterrestrials

Vulpecula got the game... Hmm, I will not have time to play this game though, need +24 Hours at least.

This "Cathy" is an insane woman. There is no other explanation. I've not seen this level of non-military aggression, or this brazenness, in my 432 clinoks of life!

We *could* choose a peaceful route - I can't see how 'C' wouldn't flip to us, and it's in the right spot. Likewise their other city is exactly in the right spot. We could let them build up the cities and take them by propaganda (!!), culture flip, or force at a later point. I point this out as a viable option, and that all is not lost. Lejos, it is not inconceivable that we lost 'C' for a reason. Look at it. It is a pathetic little city, doomed to the tiniest of sizes. It would increase the corruption of all our 'real' cities. If not for the collective, I would very upset right now, but as it stands, I am not. Keep in mind our fellow traveller is in Moscow as we speak, influencing and manipulating these weak people. Did he have a hand in their dipping South? It might be so.

There is one other point against war. Our being weak, very weak, in the eyes of the AI, might mean a feeding frenzy, ie everyone ganging up on us. The AI seem to be eager to ally in such circumstances. It might behoove us to build up an army first rather than act rashly.

OTOH, we are well within our rights to take that which we need, and if that site were not a 'temporary half-city' it would be razed, and immediately. Vulpecula I remember as a bit of proud militarist. If he chooses war, he will likely win. If he does, I would urge him to seek an alliance, so that if a world war breaks out, there will be a tangled mess, rather than us against the world.

Let me remind everyone of our goal.

We must capture the foreign captials. Almost "only" the foregin capitals. We seek a MINIMUM number of cities so that when we enter the collective form of government (called "Communism" on this planet") we will greatly reduce the effects of Corruption. So these current Russian cities are nothing, all that truly counts is...
Moscow!! If our first and only war with them is the taking of Moscow, it would not be the worst thing. If however, 'C' starts impinging on our borders and would steal a tile from Berlin, it must be assimilated or razed.

So I don't think you failed Lejosonga, I believe you were in tune with the collective!
These times call for wisdom, good luck to all leaders!

Sorry but I have to be dropped from this game... Sorry Charis but I have no time, I have to cencentrate my Time and energy on my classes... and I'm playing the GOTM, and a HOF game and I can only play one SG at the moment... probably none when that is finished.

Never a bad thing to focus on what's important Grey Fox. Thanks for 'pulling out' rather than 'stringing along' :P Good luck with classes and the rest!

Jaffa (Smiaas) is up... quite a handful on his plate!

Entry the third. Hmmm. I think we have been under-estimating these ape-creatures. Not only do they persist in building their cities on lands we have other plans for, but now it seems they have killed our companion Vulpecula. True, it does appear to have been an accident, but I am not entirely sure. There have been times in my mind-probing that I have encountered such confusion in their thought processes that I almost suspect a deliberate attempt at blocking.

Vulpecula is a sad loss. For all his faults, he was an honorable being.

0) 310BC Trade with France for contact with Chinese, Zulus, Japanese and Indians (cost WM+100g).

Trade our WM to Zulu for code of laws, polytheism, currency and construction. Wow. Shaka must really like our maps :)

At some point we probably ought to buy a map ourselves. We've still got an awful lot of black.

Nobody has monarchy yet. Some Civs have gone for this unnatural 'Republic' concept. Ewww. Letting the people have a say in their own government? It'll never work.

1) 290BC Hmmm. What to do with these settlers. Sites B and X, I guess.

Whip temple at Aquarius (39 shields).

2) 270BC Berlin finishes swordsman, starts worker. We need more workers.

Why didn't the worker complete the road to the gems after getting all the way to Orionus? Ack. We could use some luxuries online right about now.

Aquarius with its new temple claims the lake out of Greek territory. Good. Can't have Aquarius going without water :D

Canis Major founded (site B).

3) 250BC Cathy has this strange idea that the land around Rostov is her territory, and keeps complaining about our troops passing through.

5) 210BC Hmmm. France doesn't have monotheism yet, I notice. Joan doesn't have anything we want (just that silly republic thing). But she does have a world map -- I ask what she'd like for the French world map. "Monotheism+WM+266g+10gpt", she says. Ouch!

Cathy demands our territory map and 31g. I guess that she's bluffing and tell her no. Indeed, she was bluffing (and if she wasn't, there's these two Russian towns right in our territory we'd love to take off her hands).

6) 190BC Orionus gets his second faithful hound -- Canis Minor founded approximately at X (actually one square SE, which looked slightly better to me, can reach a hill square outside Rostov).

We need one more city to start on Forbidden Palace (I think). There's a possible spot for a fishing village (Pisces :) ) on the coast between Orionus and Canis Major.

9) 130BC Embassies established with France, Japan, India and Egypt. Marvel yet again at how bad the AIs are at city management -- we'll be doing them a big favor when we take over and run the capitals for them :alien:

Alexander is annoyed (and we already have an embassy with him). We sell him our WM for 4g. He calls us a tiny nation (little does he know), and a friend, but is still annoyed.

RBD21 110BC

Charis, you're up (and in RBD18).

110 BC (0) - Most amazing news, that was. Vulpecula... dead??? It's like
life means nothing to these pathetic creatures. This is truly disturbing,
and I'm wondering two things: i) were we too kind to these barbarians,
ii) must we take up a lower profile and acknowledge that without our
spaceship and technologies we took for granted, we cannot effectively
wage war from an ancient military perspective? This is what keeps me
up at night, Lejosonga. And you were right, that engineer Smiaas did
rather well with a rough situation. I may have underestimated him as much
as I have the beast-creatures on this planet.

Our assessment of the situation:

Cities: 11. Cities once we've assimilated Riga and Rostov: 13.
HOW they become part of our nation is one thing, but both are right
in the middle of areas we want to settle. So we must *NOT* found any
more cities unless as a direct, in-spot, replacement. (Rostov I would
Military: Weak, weak, weak compared to every other civ except Japan and Zulu.
We have literally only one half the allowed units.
Infrastructure: Not shabby at all, and working on a good 'mix' now.
Score, Power: Lower half of pack, but world is moderately at parity
Culture: surprisingly high! Everyone, including #1 India, is impressed!
Zulus are in awe. This is our early wonder and large number of temples.
Tech: Advisor says somewhat backward but this is nonsense, we're just ONE
tech behind the world, Republic (which we have *NO* interest in!)
Besides we're in the middle ages. Not bad! (We do need Monarchy)
Economy: Poor. Very poor. Going no science will help. Not a single marketplace
in the land, and two lux but not connected to anywhere.

My conclusion. We need to BUILD. Fighting Russia over the two small cities
NOW would be based on testosterone, not logic. The beast creatures thrive on
that hormone, but we do not. More thoughts on those cities in a minute.

We need ...
- to build up our military, with defensive units, to not APPEAR weak. With the
'allowed' units and with our strong culture, no one will dare pick on us.
If we don't correct this, things could get VERY ugly, very quickly.
- to improve relationships in the very short term, while we are this behind.
- to research MONARACHY, a valid govt where can maitain autocratic control
until we can get communism
- to get Apollo on the Forbidden Palace asap
- to crank out WORKERS to add to the 'unit' total to appear strong and to
connect lux and to work the land
- to be patient.

Long term goals. Some day, some time, we shall take Athens and Thebes, and
we shall hold them with a garrison of two dozen troops. This day may be
centuries in coming, but it will happen. And those will be only the FIRST
capitals we shall bring under our dominion.

Lejos, Smiaas, may I present an unusual plan for your consideration. If we
are able to keep peace and build up our culture, I believe the Russia cities
next to us can be 'assimilated' by our mental powers, and can be manipulated
to yearn for our culture. If this fails, I believe we can develop powerful
propaganda techniques to put more pressure on them. Humans discount the power
of propaganda, but they have not the keen mental acumen we possess! Thus
I suggest peace, staying the course, and flipping or applying propaganda in time.
IF by some chance, Russia attacks US, let there be no mercy shown on those cities.
But if we are able, let us not upset the apelike creatures and give them
reason to set off their testosterone levels. If either of you feel compelled
to more forcible annex these cities, however, I'm sure you will do so with
good reason and I will accept your judgement.

Let the age of building begin...

Leipzig to worker. Orionus whips the granary. IRA plans for granary whip
rather than barracks, since nation has 3 barracks already. Aquarius to worker.
Janus to library to get its culture expansion faster. Tax collector to scientist.

90 BC (1) - Leipzig goes on Spear/Worker cranking duty.
IRA whips granary, Betelgeuse whips temple (I don't see these whippings as
endless or indefinite, btw, I see us in Monarchy soon and all chances to whip
soon gone)

Hrmm.. Alex and Abe look seriously stressed about something. Let's talk...
Xman too. No visit problem. We need to save a few more turns for an embassy
with America and Persia. Alex is just... annoyed. We can get an RoP but it's
rather expensive.

50 BC (3) - Berlin finishes aqueduct. I would LOVE to start another wonder here,
but... must crank some spears before trouble starts, plus a library for an
early 1000 year bonus.

30 BC (4) - Apollo does first half of a courthouse whip (using granary).
Persian embassy turns Xerces from annoyed to polite, as we hope to make
contact with our 'agent' there. Abe soon, then appease Alex, and we're ok.

10 AD (6) - Oh my!! This throws a minor apelike monkey in the works. Without
even trying, it seems that the small village of Argos yearns to be with us!
They are tired of Alex's perpetually dour disposition, and beg to join our
civlization. That means not one, not two, but THREE gems. Can't turn it
down, but somehow I think we won't be able to keep it. I just hope it
doesn't start a war 8-\

30 AD (7) - Russia declares war... on the Persians! (phew!) That works great!

Oh my goodness, Lejos! What a blessing this tired old mind realizes. No
doubt this mental impression came from you! Why don't we build the Forbidden
Palace? If Argos had not flipped, we would NOT have been able to start
the project in Apollo without founding another or starting a war! Great fate!

Greeks build the Hanging Gardens! Ah! A way to help them become polite, buy
desired Monarchy from them! Well no surprise in new patch, but EVERYONE
knows Monarchy instantly, and everyone has identical techs.
That makes it cheap for us anyway.

I give him WM+5gpt, slightly BETTER than he asked for. Yet he remains
annoyed. 8-\ I don't like the looks of that. Hmm... any huge needs to
whip left, or can we revolt? A granary in Leipzig next turn would work,
Betelgeuse Harbor this turn. Janus Harbor this turn too - both done.
Temple in Canis in two.

50 AD (8) - French, Babs, Chinese start the Hanging Gardens too. BTW,
the Gardens are the ONLY wonder even being worked on, and all from scratch.
It would not be too late to get in on the race, OR start on it and switch
to SunTzu or Leo's. Leipzig whips Granary.

70 AD (9) - Egpyt, Russia, Japan also get an urge to Hang gardens.
Crabion whips Library, Canis Minor its temple, about to revolt soon.

90 AD (10) - Greeks and Persians start Sun Tzu. Orionus whips library.
Final whip opportunities: Granary in Aquarius, temple in Canis Minor.
I don't think these are worth delaying the revolution over.\

A REVOLUTION! (Or so think the beings here... things are rather under
control. In fact... just 4 turns to recover :P )

Lejos, rather than saddle you with 4 "next turn" clicks, I see it through
to Monarchy and readjust the tiles to somewhat of a normal state. Feel
free to change, veto, run as you see fit. Things are looking decent! 170 AD.

Workers?? Did someone ask for workers?? Now 9 workers and 13 spears, 3 swords,
3 warriors. Five workers under construction, and two spears. When I started,
5 workers and 11 spears.

* We need a road to other civs, especially Greece, as we have extra gems now!
Watch Leipzig, it's on border of unhappiness and about to grow.

Greece is finally polite. He was annoyed the whole turn, but never even sent
a single troop over to look at us. I expect no trouble, but do try to stay
friendly with him. Our next big need - STILL a few more spears but mainly, the
economy, hooking up our new lux and exporting them for cash and tech!
(Could it be the Greek worker we have?? Not liking slave labor?!)

Forbidden Palace due in 29! In your own command center Lejos! :hammer:

Good luck, Lejosonga!
Xenocharis

I sense something...

... a co-expatriot is calling us from Athens! The Pyramids are
clearly an indication he is in control of the situation. He sends greetings, says "I hope you enjoy Argos! I 'encouraged' them to want to join your civ!"

This is good news. A more urgent sensing and a call to rescue him via war would have come at a very bad time for us.
Monarchy, working on the Forbidden Palace, Russia heavily distracted, more embassies, all very good, but... we're still just plain weak. If we can get over the threshold not to be bullied and work on our economy, get a few more cheap defenders, it should be a bright middle ages.

Make us proud, Lejos!

Xenos,

Sorry for the delay, I've been held captive for 7 rotations of this planet in a place called Cheju. It seems, I was overworked and required a "Vacation"? Strange term... I was unable to maintain contact during this time. However I have now escaped and will be able to continue managing our chosen ones.

Lejos

(Got It)

Xenos,
It is so good to be in touch with you again, it's been a trying 2 weeks. I am deeply sorry I didn't have time to give you proper diary entries so here is a list of things accomplished during my tenure.

Things to do:

Complete roads to other civs
Hook up Luxs
Build defenses and workers
Optional: Start wonder place holder in Berlin

(0) 170 AD Do some mm so Leipzig grows in 2 turns, and increase income to 11 gpt. MM in Aqua, cat in 1 turn instead of 2.

(1) 190 AD Cat is completed in Aqua, started library. Worker completed in IRA start barracks.

(2) 210 AD Worker complete in Leipzig started spear, Dye road complete to Betel. Start roading to Apollo. Started Gardens in Berlin as Sun Tzu's or what ever place holder leave that decision to Samiss.

(3) 230 AD Zulus and Persians Alliance against Russia, Zulus declare war on Russia. French and Russians start Sun Tzus. Everybody and brother now building Sun Tzus.

(4) 250 AD Greece sign alliance with Russia against Persia, declares war on Persia. Americans jump on the Sun Tzus bandwagon. Give Xman 44 g and 3 gpt for Feudalism we are 4 tech behind most folks.

(6) 270 AD Babylon extorts an territory map and 8 gold, he was annoyed and I didn't want to start a war. I just can't believe how prone to violence these beastly barbarians are.

(7) 280 AD India wants an alliance against Zulu's and an ROP, I decline and give him a 5 g present.

(8) 290 AD Barracks completed in IRA starts pikeman.

(9) 300 AD France and Persia sign alliance against Greece. France declares war on Greece. Abe wants 19 g and territory map. I'm declining. Give 10 g he's polite again. Orionus completes worker start on courthouse.

(10) 310 AD Shaka wants to trade maps for 18 gold, deal. By Theology off of him for 7 gold and 6 per turn. We're still 3 techs behind the rest of the world. Road finished to Greece.

I'm somewhat concerned Xenos, we are currently 9 units over our optimal number and still weak compared to most other beings. We are also 3 techs behind, and still only making 9 Gpt.
We must somehow gain more strength and improve our income. We now have 16 workers, 13 Spears, 3 swords and other assorted units. We will have pikes in a couple of cities soon. And probably should look at training some knights. I hope we can combine our mental prowess and come up with some workable solutions. Until then good luck to Samiss and to you my friend we still have much work to do.

Lejosonga

0) 310AD Trade gems to Egypt for Engineering, and to France for Chivalry+20g.

China and India go to war with the Zulus.

1) 320AD India makes peace with the Zulus.

A barbarian galley sinks our galley :(

2) 330AD Russia makes peace with the Zulus. My, aren't the Zulu diplomats being busy :)

6) 370AD First knight trained.

Zulus and Greeks declare war on France.

8) 390AD Trade ivory to Greece for 8gpt.

9) 400AD Persia extorts territory map and 27g.

10) 410AD Babylonian and Chinese embassies eastablished. Both Babylon and Beijing are building Hanging Gardens, due in 18 and 61 turns respectively.

RBD21 410AD

I haven't yet got the new patch, so this is still in 1.17f.

I'd like to encourage you to keep up the alien diaries, rather than a dry recitation of events. This thread's not nearly so interesting to follow without them. :)

Seeing how there are only three of us, I won't mind putting this on hold. Just wouldn't seem right without the head ET!!
In the meantime I'll get some warmongering practice in on LK-22.
