RBW3 - Mehmed the Unwise

Okay, I only played 9 turns...unfortunately we really don't have a lot of options on the war front...first off, here are the two cities we have troops near:

and

civ4screenshot0020ui5.jpg

The screenshot doesn't it show it, but both have 3 troops, one Archer, one Zimpi or whatever the heck they are called, and one Axeman. We have a couple of Axes near each. So we don't really have the troops to do anything. IMO we started the war prematurely, without enough concentration of power to do any good, but I guess the plan was to whip troops and stream them in? Our capital is suffering from +3 whip anger with about 50 turns left, and our northern city still has six to go. I whipped a Granary in another city but it won't have an Axe for 6 more turns. All in all I favor a peace settlement now (we can get Hunting if we want it) and build up our military a bit more before the next war, but I'm open to opinions.

BTW, Alphabet came in and I set research to Currency, although Construction is probably a better option (I forgot to check if we can get Masonry from Shaka), feel free to switch directions. Anyway, not a lot of options:

Stalin is out there getting big and nasty, we probably can't afford to hold off on Shaka too long but I think we need more like a nice 8 stack of Axe's before moving in again.

I think it was worth it since we now control 3 gems. Btw, speaking of gems, we should be working the grassland gems tile right now instead of both hills gems. We need food in both of those southern cities. Might be worthwile to try to trade for monarchy for heriditary rule soon, and found the furs cities up north by taking the barb city first. Shaka is giving hunting for peace right now, which isnt much. Also we have a trade connection with Isabella so we should sign open borders with her.

We have alot of whip penatlies (44 turns is capital :( ) so we should wait until we whip some hammans all over.

I assumed the triple whipping was yours Qwack, it was over 50 when I got it and ThERat only played 15 turns :p. Anyway, I agree we should avoid it in the future unless of course it is in The Globe city (in which case we should be drafting). For the mined Gems, if we all agree that peace is the call (I would not even take Hunting due to WFYABTA) then definitely the flat tile is better than the hill tile.

So, should we switch from Currency to Masonry on our way to Hammans and Catapults?

Extortion doesnt count in WFTBYA as far as I know. But im not sure, we need hunting for the furs/deer city in the north anyways.

lurker's comment:

That's what I thought too, but Mutineer posted in Aelf's Immortal thread that it did count and someone (VoU?) did an analsysis of the UML and found that it did indeed count towards the limit. So, I would vote let's not take Hunting and research it right before we need it (I'm assuming it is only a turn or two at this point).

You should never start a war prematurely. That's George Walker Bush's way.:p

Swein: Just as a note, try not to quote an entire post, especially if the post is lengthy and contains several images.

How long is Shaka in this game for? Not very long. We're also both in the bottom half in the score table (probably), so on both counts WFYABTA won't be an issue. I would take whatever we can get now and then wipe him out second war.

The WFYABTA count is across civs, so if we get a tech from Shaka for peace it counts towards alls civs limits WHO KNOW SHAKA. So in this case I guess it would only count for Caesar, so maybe we can take the tech. There is also apparently a random "forget" factor which explains why sometimes I could trade again with a partner despite no diplomatic shift :crazyeye:.

Well darrelljs is right that we can't inflict any more damage on Shaka with what we've got so peace it is. Only question is do we take Hunting as a free tech, as there's not much out there that we actually do want I say yes and so this is the peace deal (he wouldn't give us Masonry though).

Troops are moved to the barb city to the north but we can't even take this, so they are then moved back home.

I switch research to Masonry and once this completes Construction.

I switched Istanbul and Edirne to a Hammam. Can probably whip both once Construction comes in to overflow into catapults or axes. I've let Istanbul grow (3 unhappies for this whipping). Ankara and Nobamba building Libraries (to be whipped as well).

Construction in 7 (we're break even at 80%). No-one has any particular techs we want and even then only Izzy will trade with us and only Sailing and Archery. We have Alphabet and Mathematics monopoly with AIs we know.

We have 4 axes in Nobamba and 3 up north, join some catapults to these and Shaka is toast.

What is our long term plan here. If we take over Zululand, we'd be well set up to achieve a non-military victory (culture or spaceship). Any takers? Or are we dominators again.

Civ4: Warlords early in the morning. What kept you awake Ozbenno? I'd probably love to see you try a builder's game without great people, but I think Domination or Conquest is the way to go if you want to win.:) :D

Swein, don't want to be rude, but please refrain from quoting whole posts here not long after...we can all read, but those sort of double posts are a little irritating...thanks

I don't even know how he is quoting those images, I thought the forum was set up to prevent that :crazyeye:. To answer his question, I believe that Ozbenno is from Oceania so it isn't morning for him.

I'd be game for a peaceful victory, I've gotten in a rut where my last four games were backdoor domination. That said I don't have a strong opinion and will go whatever direction the team wants to.
