15 turns played guys. Ok, I noticed that my report got screwed up. Apparently, like 5 paragraphs magically disappeared and I had to rewrite them, which was annoying.. Since I spent like 1 hour playing the turns and then another 20 minutes writing the first report. So anyways, the report might be messed up at certain spots..
Well, I have always stuck to the 70% rule in CIV4. In other words, if we have 70% of the AI's army in demographics, we can guarantee ourselves a victory. At the start of my turnset, we had around 55%, but Isabella inbetween us and Stalin to no risk for us in our Core. I started off by literally micromanaging every city and whipping/drafting as many units as I could. Next I switched research from Printing Press to Chemistry and put 100% slider. Also pull off a few important trade deals on first turn..
Our initial offensive army was set up nicely by Atlas, but I decided to wait a couple of turns for more jannisaries to arrive. I was afraid of our army being shred to pieces by stalin's more advanced and certainly more numerous units. Stalin captured Barcelona on turn 2. Its pretty obvious who was winning between Stalin and Isabella. I sent a scout over to check what Stalin's offensive stack looked like.
ALOT of knights. I immedietely started emphasizing Pikeman in alot of our cities. Before declaring, I made another important deal with Stalin.
Its better to take his gold so he cannot get those cheap upgrades to his units. Anyways, I was basically ready to declare in 1304. With my whipping and drafting, our power had become atleast respectable compared with Stalin, but we were still clearly outmatches.
I declared war in 1304.After moving our stack towards Novgorad, I notice Stalin's defense in Novgorad was pathetic. His offensive is certainly impressive, but 4 units in one of his main core cities.. sigh
A few turns later, Stalin shows up witha stack near Madrid. Uh Oh? Not really. I was actually hoping Stalin would attack Madrid ASAP. My plan was to send in a couple of strong defensive units and wear down Stalin';s defenses, but I was NOT going to prevent him from taking Madrid. Why? Well, Simple, because we want Madrid, and we will take it from Stalin
I could have easily taken novgorad on the first turn, but decided to try to draw in some of Stalin's other troops and kill them in the process. Unfortunately he wasnt being stupid, so by 1340 I was forced to take novgorad. We lost 2 units.
On the offensive though, Stalin was being a idiot. Check this out, he lets his 0.5 strentgh warlord out in the open...
While this was going on, In novgorad I was getting absolutely harrased by what seemed like an unlimited number of Trebechuts and Catupults. Even though I was killing 2 of Stalin's units for every 1 he killed, the trebechuts were really hurting us, especially because of collateral damage. Nonetheless, Novgorad was a huge pickup. We took away one of Stalin's main cities and alot of his GNP(Colussus) while adding to our own GNP.
By 1358, Madrid was in Dire Straights, I probably should have sent more than 3 units to wear down Stalin's offense, but I thought Isabella would help a little.. guess not. She had like 3-4 longbows in her backline cities, and like 5 in Madrid, which was her capital.. sigh. I retreat our 1 unit from Madrid and let Stalin capture it..
I had continued building alot of Pikeman/Jannisaries all over the place. I also upgraded 3 of our main city raider Maceman to grenadiars. On my last turn, Taj Mahal is built
So here is the situation, TheRat has 10 Golden Age turns to work with. I played my 15 turns extremely safe, because I wanted to put a dent in Stalin's power. I think we should now empty out Novgorad with our offensive stack and go after Madrid(Which is defended by alot of knights). We can then go after St.Pete and Barcelona, probably making peace around that point and regrouping. Here is the power graph now.
Ill let TheRat decide which units to use to go after Madrid, although I suggest leaving 1 medic in Novgorad, theres no guarantee we wont see more catupults and trebechuts from Stalin. Another thing, some cities are eligible for drafting, but its not that good to do it now, because we are in Golden Age. Once again, ill let TheRat decide. Last thing, we have some units fortified in Seville
