Reaction to racism?

Ways to strike minorities from voter rolls (same name as a felon? no voting for you!) or requiring voter ID that disproportionally keeps poor, Spanish-speaking Americans from voting (I don't really care about requiring ID to vote, but these laws aren't written in response to fraud).
Ah, the old poll tax argument!
I love it!
Heaven forbid we charge $10 for an ID card, that is soooo much money... fine, let's make it free of charge (read, Federally funded and paid for, free for the recipient)... what's the complaint now?

Racist jokes are funny...

"A Jewish Joke in the mouth of a Nazi is no longer a joke"

Or more aptly

"A racist joke in the mouth of a racist no longer a joke"

Saying "racism is stupid" or something like that tells you are a brainwashed idiot.

"Racism" pretty much means that you care more about people that look like you or are part of same culture, language group etc. That makes perfect sense. You naturally care more about people that are your family or tribe = look more like you, have same culture as you.

"Racism" makes sense, because it gives better opportunities for you and your offspring. If you are part of privileged group because of your ethnicity or "race" it makes perfect sense to support "racist" ideology if it benefits you. It is pretty much same thing with political views. If you are poor it makes sense you support leftist economic views, because it benefits you and your family.

It might be that racism does not make sense anymore in countries that are heavily mixed. It can be bad for all if it causes great instability and violence in society. Also if your family is mixed - it makes perfect sense to fight against "racism".

Im just looking this thing (like all things) from purely factual point of view. I say "racism" is natural for humans and in certain situations it can make perfect sense for certain people.

Let us consider that tolerant societies tend to be very successful, and reflect on why racism is something that should be ridiculed.

From historical point of view I would say that opposite is true or at least your statement is totally false. Many "racist" societies have been very succesfull. (British Empire in 1800s for example was very racist and untolerant) I dont think there is really proof that tolerant societies are more succesfull. Many tolerant societies have been succesfull, many untolerant societies have been succesfull. I also would add that"tolerance" is really vague term.

You do realize that requiring voter ID is the one and only way to solve your first complaint?

Oh as I said, I don't really have an issue with voter ID laws. I object to how they're implemented in the US because they're not being written to stop fraud.

If an ID card is required for civic life, then make it free. As I said, I don't really object to making people prove their identity in principal. My wife has to show ID to vote here. That ID is ubiquitous and free (it's required to use any health services in Ontario).

Right... Stop passing off your own shortcomings as 'human nature' and just accept them as personal flaws. Not everyone shares your failures.

What shortcomings?

Unnecessary expenditure of Federal funds.

I didnt say racism is right. That is not my point at all. I think we dont have any authority to say what is right or wrong, because in an objective sense, there really is no right and wrong.

I think people are just repeating "racism is wrong" and not really thinking what racism is, has been in history and what it really is as a phenomenon. Racism is quite complicated matter and the issue can be understood if we know how human societies have developed. I dont think its totally wrong to say that "tribalism is in out genes", that is the way (living in tribes) we have lived 99% of out history as a species. I think we can interpret racism as an extension of tribalism. It is also scientific fact that we have more positive feelings towards people that look like us, are part of same family/tribe/clan/"race". Same can also said about other animals. We feel more sympathy towards animals that have human like qualities.

Trying to make voting less fraudulent? I disagree.
We wouldn't have to give it to everyone, middle class wouldn't get it for free.
Let's say it can double as your welfare card... so, something you already have need of, we can surely give those to the poor so they can also vote.

I'm actually confused by the posters who think racism is funny? I mean, i'm not the puritan politically correct gendarmerie like useless is, but it just isn't.
Now, racist jokes can be funny!
But actual serious racism? Nope, doesn't get a quiver from me, i just move on.

This could be interpreted as flaming. I advise an edit.

I'm the other way around. I don't find racist jokes funny, because (usually) they're from non-racist. In that regard, it's not stupid, because the person telling the joke is not stupid enough to believe the joke is true. But when I see an actual racist ranting on the internet, I know they're stupid enough to believe what they're saying, and I laugh at their stupidity.

You realize that often they are trolling.

anyway, I tried to look at stromfront in the past for the Lols, but my computer has a parental controls system which blocks hate sites.

Your profile says you're 100 years old, can't you just turn it off?

The funny thing is, the fraud that has been detected recently has been a Republican officeholder in Illinois and that O'Keefe kid's gang breaking the law. Otherwise, it has pretty much been a non-issue. Prosecutions are laughably low. Nevertheless, I plan on being a pollwatcher in one of the most conservative precinct's in the country and my plan is to insist that voter id be very strictly enforced. Won't change the election, but will be a fun way to spend election day.

It is one thing to "care more" about people "like yourself". You may argue that this is natural and I'd be inclined to agree.
It is something entirely different to treat people "unlike yourself" with hostility and disdain.

Both sides cheat, if only to take away the effect from the other guy, who they know will cheat...
It's easier with no good ID system.

If you did that in a poor, heavily minority neighborhood... how do you think the reaction would be? It'd probably be on the news, and you'd be outraged. Or, the NBPP would come whoop you up.
