No special events have triggered this morning.

Analysis: Not much to tell at this point. Logically, if no opposing coalition forms, the National Ummah's candidate is a shoo-in. This only heightens the importance of selecting the right man for the job. However, it is this analyst's position that an opposing coalition is merely a matter of time - the very nature of the NU controlling 3/6 parties forces the other three to either join them or form their own bloc, regardless of ideological differences. However, an alliance between the three of them would take some ideological hoop-jumping, and that is precisely the opposite of the GFP's mission statement. Time will tell whether this assessment is borne out, and in what form.

So far, the election has been dominated by a robust debate on the role of the National Council in relation to the Administration. This is an issue potentially capable of shaping the entire government structure of our fledgling Republic, and you can rest assured we at the Realpolitik Reporter will be watching with great interest. The NU appears to push a conventionally constitutional stance of trying to seize power in both branches, while their as-yet disunited opposition advocates for a balance on the Council, keeping it separate from the Administration.

Electoral Prediction: At the moment, all the money is on the National Ummah(100%). However, we do not expect this situation to last, for the reasons listed above. In the event GFP, HA and TMP all join hands, they are slight favorites to take the Executive Mansion, with 4 coalition members to 3.

The election will lock at 5PM EST Friday, January 27. Read the Realpolitik Reporter for continuing election coverage until the announcement of the results!

Just going to casually stop by and stick my name on the ASP's membership rolls. Then I'll go back to debating the philosophy of government action and the best vintages of wines, as the truely educated are wont to do. :p

I have decided not to join, but I will probably be watching. Have fun all of you guys! :p

After some deliberation, the National Ummah is ready to announce it's candidacy. The proposed ticket will be Celticfury for President and Patchy for Vice-President.

The coalition has decided on the current plan of action:

Spoiler Plan of Action :
Foreign Policy
  • In order to secure our borders, we need to pursue an aggressive campaign to eliminate the barbarians both to the north and west of Cairo. This will necessitate the temporarily inclusion of our ranged forces in the campaign, after which time they can return to garrison duty.
  • After removing the barbarians, our warriors can continue to scout the western region, while our scouts can explore the east and southeast.
  • In regards to plans for settlements, the plan for proposed locations, in orders, are: the President's pick, the southeast to pick up the jade and gain bonuses to campuses from the mountains; the north west, at the tip of the peninsula, with fish to promote growth and luxuries for trade; the west, near the jade and stone, with decent space for farmland and districts, and eventual horses.
  • Once Foreign Trade is researched, we should establish a trade route to Amsterdam. As for our envoys, we should focus on influencing Amsterdam. The gold bonus from Amsterdam will provide a much needed boost to the economy, which will in turn allow us to support greater development and a larger army, if necessary.

Domestic Policy
  • In terms of government civics, Craftsmanship should be completed, of course, followed by Foreign Trade, for the obvious benefits of increased trade. If Foreign Trade is boosted and completed ahead of time, we should proceed to Early Empire, to help facilitate further expansion. +50% settler production will help in expanding the nation.
  • Research wise, after finishing Astrology, we should chain through Pottery to Writing. Afterwards, Sailing seems like a good tech to pursue. It will be vital if we are to expand to the north. The desert looks to be hilled, so it does not seem suitable for the Pyramids.
  • While Stonehenge can be beneficial, our first priority should be to expand and secure our fledgling nation. Thus, the initial focus should be on slingers, at least 2-3, to push back the barbarian hordes, and builders to improve the infrastructure of our nation. As the population in Cairo increases, a third settler can be considered, especially after picking up the Colonization civic. After this is complete, construction on campuses can begin in the new cities, and traders can be created from Cairo.
  • Switching to the Ilkum civic, and adding +1 production to each city, will be beneficial in bringing the new cities up to working order.

The Mu'tazilite Party

Surprising as it may be, we agree in principle with the proposals presented by the National Ummah. At this early point of our civilization's development, it is almost impossible to argue against expanding our borders in order to create a solid power base.

However, it should be apparent to anyone who has been following the debate so far that this election is not one in which simple squabbles over policy is enough to shape our conflict with the National Ummah. Rather, the matter at hand is much more essential and much more ideological than where to settle our next city or whether if we should try and build the Stonehenge. It is about the very nature of our still infant republic's internal structure. It is about the neutrality of the National Council, which shouldn't even be up to debate at all but for some reason has been put under question even if indirectly. It is about checks, balances and the power structure. It is about a choice, which if made improperly will affect our nation for countless years of its existence into the future because of the precedent it sets.

I am not going to speak of the Ummah here as if they're the devil itself. I am not going to claim that their ascent to power will be enough to bring forth doomsday. They are not the devil, nor are they unquestioned harbingers of doom. They are simply an organization with a goal in mind, seeking power in order to achieve the said goal. But power corrupts, and there always remains the possibility of the power they seek corrupting them whether they intend for it to or not. We wish for the best, of course and yet we have to prepare for the worst. And the worst in this case is the National Ummah winning the Presidency and then going on to have at least two of their candidates take their seats at the National Council. They have the votes to do that. They are running unopposed and they have indicated in previous remarks that they perceive the Council as merely an extension of the Administration's power-or even a roadblock which has to be cleared. Who is to stop them, when all the money is on the National Ummah?

We are. We have come forward to propose a Coalition of the Willing and a Union of the Faithful. We have taken an oath to preserve the neutrality of our government, and to keep the divinely-ordained balance that is present in all things from being broken in such an essential pillar of the Arabian Nation. We have willed to preserve Neutrality and to make sure no one can achieve absolute power, in case there is even the slightest chance of them becoming absolutely corrupted.

I, Muhabir, the co-chair of the Mu'tazilite Party hereby call upon all those willing to stand up to stand up! Let us unite, let us become more than a mere roadblock, more than a simple nuisance or a flock of gadflies. With the will of the Divine and the power of the people behind us, let us form the first Administration of the Arabian Republic and let us put in place the very balances which are to have the power to unseat us, and any other administration that may follow, with our own hands. This is a call to all citizens not backing the National Ummah. This is a call to all unaligned parties. This is a call to all faithful with a conscience and to everyone with an unclouded, rational mind!

Lions of Freedom, Unite! For Arabia!

We, the Hashashin, answer the call of the Mu'tazilite Party. We form the coalition, Aswad al Tahrir (Lions of Freedom)! NinjaCow64 shall run as President, Muhabir shall run as Vice-President! Lions of Freedom, unite!

We confirm our participation in the Aswad al Tahrir coalition and affirm our support for NinjaCow64 of the Hashashin as President and Muhabir of the Mu'tazilite Party as Vice President.

Muhabir, co-chair of the Mu'tazilite Party with unanimous support of the party membership

I am officially placing my votes for TMP and CMP. May the best man win!

Special Event! Interviews!
The Realpolitik Reporter sees the two up-and-coming would-be successors to President Lighthearter, and in the interest of journalism, we hereby invite all players to send letters to the publication via private message with one or two questions they would like both candidates to answer. A selection of these will be mixed in with a few provided by the press, and given anonymously in list form to both candidates. The results of the interview will be posted after the fact for all to see.

Analysis: The union of the Mu'tazilite Party with the Hasashins is, at first glance, an odd ideological pairing, but the union of a militarist wing and a scientific/faith wing creates a rather well-rounded whole, brought together by a shared belief in the democratic principles of Arabia. Some kind of opposition to the National Ummah was, of course, inevitable, so there is a principle of...if you will forgive the pun, Realpolitik in this marriage. Both candidates have been officially nominated and endorsed, and the race is now on in earnest, even if no one has yet committed their votes. The upcoming interviews with the Realpolitik Reporter are likely a make-or-break exercise to put the independent Good Faith bloc in one candidate's corner.

Electoral Prediction: At this point, this election is still Celticfury's to lose(National Ummah, 60%). There are nine voters confirmed as members of the game, and the Ummah have four of them, to the AaT's three. However, despite this appearing at first-glance to be a firewall that ensures NU dominion over Arabia, the line is more fragile than you might think. Aswad al Tahrir(40%) must court the Good Faith Party or flip one of the Ummah's component members or voters to win, but this analyst does not believe such a sequence of events outside the realm of possibility, considering the debate on the National Council.

The election will lock at 5PM EST Friday, January 27. Read the Realpolitik Reporter for continuing election coverage until the announcement of the results!

I, of course, vote for The Hashashin and The Mu'tazilite Party for President.

Getting ready for the big day I see? Well, as a member of Lions of Freedoms, I first would like to get your attention at lions. Such glorius creatures. It can't be a coincidence that they all belong to one big family, Felis. We, as Felis Catus, are known for our desire to take over the world from hoomans. I don't even think I need to tell you that is just outright fabrication created and told by freedom enemies. I want to point out that taking over and ruling are two entirely seperate things. Cute kittens with flying saucers might seem intimidating, but that's how different civilizations should see us as, right? Cats could one day rule the whole planet, but only with other comrades' helps! Did you also know that by voting, you can donate to Aswad al Tahrir bring your kitten to election day? It's true!

I vote for The Hashashin and The Mu'tazilite Party.

The Aswad al Tahrir Coalition supports the following action plan for the next presidential term. We announced the beginnings of our plans for the first term to foster discussion amongst the people. We are open to debate, criticism and suggestions and we will amend our plans if discussion proves fruitful. We encourage the National Ummah to present their proposal to the voters so we can have a debate on the merits of both of our proposals.
  • Our gold reserves would be used to rush-buy our first builder, in order to improve the stone then the cow tiles, priority for the for stone since it would give us more faith. Doing this will unlock the eureka for Craftsmanship and instantly complete it, so we would switch to Foreign Trade as soon as possible and head for Early Empire.
  • We will send our scout east of the mountain range and continue exploring southwards until we reach the proposed second city location to the south east. After that, we would continue further east hoping to find other civs or city states.
  • Our settler, once complete will settle to the south east. After that, we would like to settle near the barbarian encampment to our north west, at the tip of the peninsula to our north and at the south bank of the river in the western grasslands.
  • We will aggressively try to eliminate the barbarians with our standing warrior and slingers first and build more slingers before researching archery to upgrade them to archers. After clearing the north western encampment, our warrior would continue north to uncover the northernmost tip of the peninsula while our slinger would return home after uncovering the little bit of unexplored area left between our capital and Amsterdam.
  • We will not prioritise Stonehenge as we believe that there are better uses of our resources.
  • We will try and get a trader out send it to Jerusalem since we can become the suzerain of Jerusalem by sending a single envoy after we complete their quest. We can attempt to court Amsterdam afterwards. Also, the desert to the east only seems to be hilly where we can see and the uncovered parts of it appear to be flat, furthering our need to explore the area and still providing a possibility to build the Pyramids there.
  • Our research path should be Astrology -> Pottery at first. The next stage of the tech tree will depend on what we find. If we find more Barbarians or another civilization we will continue into -> Archery -> Bronze Working. If we don't find either of these things then we will continue on to Sailing -> Masonry.
  • Our civic path should be Foreign Trade -> Early Empire -> Mysticism -> Military Tradition -> State Workforce -> Classical Era. If we can build an early district or get the eureka some other way and don't see any obvious war targets, we can rush the Classical Era instead of getting Mysticism and Military Tradition. In any case, increasing our culture output by settling near jade should be a secondary priority.
  • We support the Discipline policy for now but would prefer changing to Ilkum instead of God-King.
  • We would like to have a strong National Council and will support the election of at least one independent candidate who is affiliated with a party not represented in either the administration or the opposition. This piece of the plan stands no matter what the results of the Presidential election happens to be.
  • We will not use legislative tricks to unduly influence the National Council without their explicit approval, no matter if we end up as government or opposition.

Special Event! Interviews!(Still ongoing, locks in 8 hours)

Analysis: Aswad al Tahrir holds a commanding lead in the current polls, with 70% of the vote. However, this lead is fragile at best, as there are still 4 confirmed National Ummah votes that have not been cast(this analyst highly doubts that Celticfury and Patchy will not vote for their own rise to power). This creates a 7-7 tie, with the Good Faith Party still to vote. However, the Anti-Socialist Party has not mustered all its members, and should Dem Taqat stick with his coalition, the National Ummah should still cruise to victory, even if a close one. All the Ummah have to do to win is convince the Good Faith Party to remain ideologically neutral, though of course gaining their support would be preferable.

Electoral Prediction: At this point, the situation has narrowed. Aswad al Tahrir(50%) has narrowed the gap by coming out strong in the early vote, even if momentum still ultimately rests with their opponents. However, it looks increasingly likely that the Good Faith Party will serve as kingmaker before all is said and done, and it is hard to imagine them voting for the National Ummah(50%). It's anyone's game, or, more specifically, it's Magnive and Dot80's game. Time will tell how they play it.

The election will lock at 5PM EST Friday, January 27. Read the Realpolitik Reporter for continuing election coverage until the announcement of the results!

Here and now, I would wish to declare that, should I be elected President, I vow that the Administration will not seek to Endorse any National Ummah member seeking entry into the National Council, nor use any other tactic to influence the National Council.
