What are the prerequisites for CoL again? (I'm too lazy to dig out my tech screen)

What are the prerequisites for CoL again? (I'm too lazy to dig out my tech screen)

You can go via currency or priesthood (we have writing, so thats not a problem).

Aysee - I know a lot of people voted for you - but the point is how many are being vocal about their support?

- Lighthearter

Exactly!!! Kind of like GPC's lurker voters. They didn't show up, they aren't useful.

I'm thinking that we could manually tech currency then bulb CoL. (If you want to go down that path). After that, we'll let the administration decide what to do (for now...).

Slight problem with that plan:

http://www.civfanatics.com/civ4/strategy/greatpeople_tech.php

We're probably better off manually researching Code of Laws, because otherwise we would have to make sure that we already know the techs that are higher on the priority list:

Meditation
Polytheism
Priesthood
Monotheism
Theology
Divine Right
Mysticism
Masonry (Warlords patch & BTS)
Code of Laws

It looks like Theology is higher priority than Code of Laws, so that's what we would bulb (not sure why the priority is set that way). Of course, if we could somehow trade for Meditation, Polytheism, Priesthood, and Monotheism, or if it was clear that we could tech those more quickly than researching Currency and Code of Laws . . . .

Hmm.

Meditation (80)
Polytheism (100)
Priesthood (60)
Monotheism (120)

Total: 360

Currency (400)
Code of Laws (350)

OK, so if I'm looking at this right, if we're going straight for a religion, it might be better to self-research all those pre-requisites ourselves. However, I'm going to try to set up a test game to make sure that the priorities will work out in our favor. Theology would let us build the AP (though I do not think that it would be a wise investment of hammers at this point), and it makes decent trade bait (500 beakers).

Hm. Well, I'll see what I find out, unless anyone else wants to test it out. Just make a new game, go into World Builder, give yourself all the techs we have (in the screen shots from the prior post), give yourself a Great Prophet, and make sure that it works correctly.

Edit: I would like to vocalize my support for the current administration, because anarchy is anathema to me. :nono: Of course, I welcome and encourage input from the respected Opposition.

The problem is, while the first plan might have be cheaper, those techs have little or no practical benefits at all.

All the religious techs are useful for without their religions are wonders and monasteries. We don't have enough religions to make monasteries useful, and as the oracle's been built, now we have to wait till aesthetics to build anything. Anyways, none of the administrations have been vocal about wonders, which is odd, given that I'm a habitual wonder spammer.

While with currency, it gives free trade routes, allows you to build wealth, and lets you trade money. Code of Laws enables courthouses, which significantly brings down maintenance costs, which frees up your economy big time; the religion is simply icing on the cake.

But no one will trade for religious techs (could you go and find out why, LH? Thanks), Asoka might nab CoL (Does the AI put emphasis on that tech?) so I don't know.

Aysee - I know a lot of people voted for you - but the point is how many are being vocal about their support?

Really?! Isn't implied support enough? Fine then, I give my full and total support to the current administration. -Aysee.

EDIT: 90 pages!!!! Whoo!! :dance:[party]:rockon::king::dance::band::cheers::w00t::w00t:

True, but we will need them sooner or later. It depends mainly on Asoka, if sh- I mean he () decides to go for CoL, we'll be biting ourselves for choosing one over the other.

My suggested tech plan:

Construction-currency-monarchy-code of laws-metal casting-(trade for iron working)-compass-machinery-feudalism-optics

Or maybe

Construction-currency-monarchy-aesthetics-code of laws-metal casting; if you want to pump out some wonders.

@MN-This all depends on whether he'll pick CoL over mathematics, aesthetics, theology, etc.

EDIT: Then again, if he has a great tech rate, he might beat us even if we run 100% tech rate through the religious road.

Why are we bothering with Construction and other techs that aren't necessary ATM? I know you'll bring up a whole thing about how we need cats, but like the opposition said, the people of England demand a religion. Do you dare to anger the people? I say bulb it after Poly, Priesthood, etc.

The people of England also demand an adequate army, something that can't be done if we don't have the ability to create siege engines.
Fine, switch currency with construction, code of laws with monarchy.
As I've said before those religious techs serve NO PRACTICAL PURPOSE AT ALL at the moment. We have other more pressing concerns.

And the government gives in to the opposition's demands. (But not until Arya approves)

Ah. But my tech plan isn't the official one until it's endorsed by the president. Mine is just the voice of one person, and should not be regarded as anything but. And anyways, Asoka could just nab confu. first and render all this moot.

And the OSR is also climbing because the President in AWOL.

Whu?! He just posted noon today, are you mad?! (Well, 13:35 for you because your EST, but still)

Aysee, while I fully agree that those four religious techs serve us little purpose at this time, it would be relatively inexpensive for us to research them (cross fingers that we can trade for one or more of them) and our Great Prophet could bulb Theology without a problem. That should satisfy those who want a religion. Afterwards, we can resume researching the more important techs, like Mathematics and Construction.

Alternatively, perhaps we should research Mathematics first (it does provide some useful benefits, like more powerful forest chops), and then pick up the religion techs. Math first means we can switch to Construction if enemy units near. Of course, the downside is that our cities will probably fall long before we can finish research Construction . . . . However, for the interest of all parties, finding a compromise on our research path may be beneficial.

Also, I am sure that arya will post again soon. We should be patient.

@MN
Fine, slightly thrown off by the fact that Doesn't Check Every Hour=Not Active/MIA

@whosit: we're one turn from math

Yeah, I still remember being gone for a day and a half, then seeing lots of people go "where's mechaerik?".

I support the government.fully and completely.after all,a united England is a strong England, united we stand, divided we fall!! (crowd cheers)
