Humph. Caesar's got construction, it seems. Thus, fighting a defensive war is goint to be...bad.

Doesn't help that the terrain in France doesn't exactly favor defenders. Are there any war allies we could call in to split their forces? Nottingham is probably gone since the Romans don't have to go far to get at it. So maybe the majority of reinforcements should go to France?

Finally, the warrior in Normandy should be sent to Ravus-York and probably upgraded to something decent.

Things are getting very interesting now. That's for sure.

Institute an emergency draft (represented by using slavery to whip out soldiers). It may be vital to the survival of our colonies. If we can, assemble a small force to move towards the center of Rome, and fortify it on defensive terrain so that JC is distracted.

Well, on lower difficulties, the ai doesn't fortify their core as much, so if we put together a strike team now we could conceivably launch a sneak attack on Rome itself, maybe even manage to capture it.

Yes, we might need to implement an "emergency draft".

Could we perhaps, get the Irish Mongols or Hannibal to join us?

No, I seem to recall us granting them independence

First response-Oh SHI*.

second response- WIM they ARE NOT our vassals. We dont even have fuedalism do we?

3rd response- I have aplan. I always have a plan.

4th response- Okay this is what ive got on this:

1. we adopt aysee's plan and build archers on the continent, swordsmen in britain. In order to end this, we will need to launch an offensive, hopefully keeping our gains.

2. City builds should be in this order on the continent: granary (if they dont have one), spam archers. I would ask for a city to spam axemen somewhere, but nothing is developed enough to spam enough of them, so after 2 archers, how about birmingham switch to axes? that way they give a few defensive units, but we can get a few axemen out for when we need them.

3. City builds in britain should be simpler. Spam swordsmen. Both cities have granaries so we dont have to worry about that. I want 15 swordsemn before we launch an offensive. Once we have 10 swordsmen, or close to it, switch liverpool to axes. Keep churning these out.

4. That axemen and swordsmen on the galley should go to Nottingham RIGHT NOW. I dont think we have any troops there, so we need to get there ASAP since you can bet rome will attck there soon.

5. The galley should then return to the channel coast, and load those 2 archers on it, and bring them to nottingham. Once it finishes that, assemble the archers in BOTH london and liverpool, and send them to Ravus-York. Once thats finished, units should be starting to come out of britains cities. Keep them going to ravus york to get ready for an attack on antium.

6. The warrior in france should be sent to Ravus-York and upgraded to, preferably an axemen, but if the situation demands something else (like a HUGE stack of chariots) LH has the permission from the president to upgrade it into something else. If the defenses seem sure, then a sxwordsmen might be a reasonable upgrade. It will then hole up in Ravus, only venturing out if the odds of the attck are in their favor.

7. I see 1 archer that is not in a city in Iberia. This archer should fortify on the hill one tile northeast of its current position in the city ruins. The archer in CN will fortify in the forest one tile northeast of the gold. That blocks off land routes to Iberia. A worker should be stationed on the east coast to watch for roman naval vessels. With luck, they wont have triremes so our galley should be safe, but if a galley is spotted heading towards CN, an archer must be moved to meete it, or one must be whipped out of the city. The archer in Birmingham should reinforce Ravus-York if it can get there. If roman troops block the way, it should reinfoce in the forest northeast of the gold just like the other archer.

8. Any worker in danger should retreat to the closest city. This is meant for france, but if anywhere else is threatened, workers willretreat from thee too.

9. As Ravus said, why is russia no longer the buddhist capital? Did it lose the holycity maybe:eek::eek:?

10. Ravus, i think that iron was in germany. I may be wrong, but i think it was in the city that they just built, so they might not be connected to it yet, explaining the praets abscense.

11. Cities should be whipped. As much as they can stand it. I will support whips lowering the POP to a minimum of 3. 2 in ABSOLUTE EMERGENCIES, as in the city in question has just lost most of its defenses.

12. Continue with metal casting. Once its finished, research monarchy, then fuedalism. if we can get longbowmen, all the better.

13. How big is that stack with the catupult? Is it alone? How many troops do we think are in antium, rome, and their german cities?

14. The axemen in norway should continue exploring intil it reaches borders it cant enter then return to the oslo area. The aglley near the axemen should head to the gibraltar area, and keep watch for the roman navy.

15. I dont thinkw e ahve naymore settlers. If we do dont spend them. cancel the settler in france in favor of the continental build orders i gave earlier.

Thats all for now i think. Further comments shall follow.

First response: Rome declared war!! Yay! How did I know this was coming? :p  :goodjob:

Click on the Emphasize Hammers button to make the governor emphasize hammers. Then go with building Granaries in the cities that still need them and then archers. Move our
back archers towards the front lines of the continent. Switch London to another galley and move some of our London archers to the front lines.

WE WILL NOT NEED AN OFFENSE. However, we have already yelled at each other about this multiple times before, so I won't start again.

The peace and quiet of recent days has left me in a bit of a stupor, I am afraid. I am sorry that I was not aware of the current emergency earlier. This post is currently a placeholder to acknowledge that I am now aware of things. I will edit this soon with a more detailed plan, but here's a couple of general thoughts:

*Defense takes priority over offense. Aysee's plan to launch a surprise attack on Rome would work if we already had an army.
*Research or trade for Construction: We need Catapults of our own.
*Axemen will be better equipped to fight Praetorians than Archers or Swordsmen. Praetorians have a base strength of 8. Swordsmen have 6. Archers have a base of 3, and in a city (+50%), with City Garrison I (+20%), and full fortification (+25%), an Archer has an effective strength of about 5.85. Axemen are base 5, +50% vs. melee, so will be effectively 7.5 vs. Praetorians. Combat I will bring that to 8.

Therefore, if we're worried about being attacked by Praetorians, Axemen make better defenders than Archers.

Former President Lighthearter, from his home in Wales, has suggested issuing Emergency Powers to arya - if two party leaders support this action more then oppose it then arya can postpone elections indefinitely and issue a National Draft, which will lower population of cities but gives us an array of units to use against the enemy.

There are other powers he can use, but I haven't invented them. He'll have to ask me what he can do.

Alright, allow me to lay out a slightly more detailed plan of action. First, here is my suggestion for our overall strategic goals:

Fighting Defense

Clearly, our first priority is to defend ourselves, our cities, and our citizens. However, we cannot effectively defend ourselves by hiding in our homes (waiting for the AI to attack our cities); we must fight the enemy as they enter our lands and destroy them. As already mentioned, that means we should focus more on building Axemen and Swordsmen over Archers, because the latter are good only for fortifying cities and hills. Acquiring Catapults by any means necessary is also a critical component of this strategy, because Catapults will allow us to weaken enemy armies and successfully counter-attack to destroy them.

Counter-Offensive

Supposing we succeed in the first part, it will be time to increase the size of our army and strike back against the treacherous Romans. This attack was completely uncalled for, and to believe that Rome will not attack us again, should we make peace, is foolishness. We must cripple the Romans so that they cannot threaten us again. To do this, we will need Axemen, Swordsmen, a handful of Archers, and several Catapults. It will take time to build this force (especially since we currently lack Construction), but if we can make the Romans pay in blood when they try to enter our lands, we should be able to weaken them enough that we can successfully launch an invasion.

Tactics

Difficult to say because we're limited in what we can see at the moment, but here's my best.

First: It looks like we have an Axeman wandering in Norway? We need to bring him back, immediately.

Nottingham is most likely a lost cause. We should make every reasonable effort to defend the city (move any nearby units in to garrison it), but it is simply not strategically wise to devote a great deal of defense to a completely undeveloped city that is surrounded by the enemy when doing so would leave more important cities defenseless.

Needless to say, but we should not build any more Settlers during this time. Probably no more Workers. We don't have as many as we need, but we have enough for the time being.

Side note: Liverpool is unhappy but is still growing. It needs to have its growth halted, preferably by rearranging the tiles. (LH, can you give us the city screens for each city?)

Make sure Workers don't get captured. Try to get road systems set up to make it easier to move troops around in threatened areas. Pretty good around Ravus-York.

Units: Low-shield cities should build an Archer or two, simply because an Axeman or Swordsman could take too long to build, but Axemen and Swordsmen should be our focus, and then build/whip a ton of Catapults out once we have Construction.

Recommend getting a Barracks in any city expected to produce a lot of military, but at this point, it's better to have a unit now than a promotion for a unit that may not come in time.

Get Gold and Silver hooked up ASAP to help with the happiness limit.

I do not feel that EP are necessary at this moment. The people of England would disapprove strongly of being drafted into the military. So I do not support EP for the prez.

OOC: Of course. :p

I consider that Arya's third issue, since I count Ravus as an issue.

EDIT: Also, seeing how the administration is not willing to give up their goals of having an offensive army, I agree with Whosit's plan.

Well, those were actions of the past. Lets not kill anybody over them. :p  (Notice the irony?)

I have already issued my plan for war. It is not the plan that will be followed yet and can/will be revised, but i stand by its ideals. therefore, i disagree with parts of whosits plans.

1. we dont know if they have Praets. Plus we dont have the troops to wage a field war right now. if we send them out to protect the reources, then we leave our cities vulnerbale when we lose those units in the field.

2. Whats this obsession with cats? I almost never use them. they are very weak in combat, and i only use siege weapons when attacking cities where trebs are MUCH better. I dont know why people are obsessing over cats, and maybe if its explained ill understand, but at the moment i dont see the need to have catupults at the ready. It will not be a high priority as it stands.

3. An offensive is crucial in the future, so we need to build up now. Thats how i used the build plans. Also archers are cheaper than axes and if we spam enough of them its possible that we might be able to hold off the romans long enough to get some axes out to clear our lands.

4. I think nottingham should be held, not at all costs, but i am willing to risk alot to hold it. its a salient in our lines, and will probably distract a good part of the roman forces. If we keep them busy in the netherlands, then they have less troops to throw at Ravus.

5. I think the axemen shoudl continue wandering unless the situation gets incredibly dire. They havent sent a stack yet, unless there is one with that catapult.

6. I am considering EP, though i find it unlikely i will use it. It is merely considered right now in case we need the troops.

MN! WHY ARE YOU HAPPY ROME DECLARED WAR? It is very likely this could scar our empire for centuries. If we had enough troops to actually attack them, then i might actually be glad they agve us the opportunity to attack. but right now you are celebrating that englishmen will die, that our homes will be atatcked. the english people are very upset that you feel this way. hey also are very eager to be drafted into the army, since they know that Romes legions will eventually find their way to our cities if not stopped. They are lining up in droves at recruiting stations that have been hastily set up. There are too many people to recruit with our current weapons. So we need to build more weapons (build troops in game). But the people dont want to just defend our alnds. they want to strike back at the people who disrupted their peaceful daily lives. They are calling for blood.

OOC: I really should have made that "yay" part OOC. I was simply happy that something else exciting befell the nation.

IC: There are people living in Nottingham. It is not just an area with some buildings and a number. It is a city with people living inside!!!!!!

OOC: BTW, how did you get Rome to declare war on us? Was it by greatly reducing his happiness toward us?

EDIT: Lets let LH decide about how the people feel about being drafted. If we keep going like this, we'll have two different versions of Englishmen  :p
