Catherine is an intellgient Princess who has grown used to being a political tool in Russia. If she is returned she will be killed on suspicion of treason. If she is given to Vikingland she will be returned to Russia in a show of friendship and also killed. If she is handed over to Arabia she will be tortured... and then killed.
Aysee got confirmed intel that Russia hates us, will never EVER be our friend, would not publicly acknowledge us if we came to their aid and wishes to see us dead. Very very dead. Oh they are also concentrating on Astro for their next technological breakthrough.
Catherine was feeling hopeless with things and was set to be used as a political tool but didn't want to make it easy. She didn't want to rule Russia, she didn't want to be used in a marriage bargain in any way.
Summery of the Russian advance:
I think LH just wants to test the mechanics of a AR but for all intents and purposes that AR is won. We can however use it as a due cause to declare on Russia if need be.
Summery of the Ravus interview with Catherine:
A few blunt statements on how i could break the political landscape by elevating war by razing Russian cities instead of capturing them had her more willing to think about being a political player instead of a tool.
Raising her hope by pointing out how she could trust Athers and probably stay with him untill she knew what move she wanted to make also helped things out.
Then it was all ruined because someone shot her.
She's been rushed out of Ravus-York in secret with Athers protecting her. According to LH she could die or she could live.
If this was someone's attempt at ending the political drama and getting the game back on track then i guess i can't blame you. But i was 5 minutes away from getting her to work with us

I hereby join as an Independant, happy in the knowlage that i Understand what is going on.
Also- the assassination attempt is a horrible occurance. I sincerely hope that it is the work of foreign peoples, as the idea that one of our own could do such a thing after all the effort we went through to recover her is chilling. We were so close to a new ally and then this occurs. It is terrible.
Adressing another issue i agree that 1 man parties should not be held above idependants, and beleive that they should either dissolve or merge into something with more actual political power.

Firstly, congratulations on joining.
BTW, you should ask a moderator to grant you the ability to use the PM service. You cant PM until you have posts and have joined for five days. Also, join the Insanely Mad Warmongers Party!

- General Konstantin Rukosovvsky was betrothed to Catherine, though it is unclear whether this was a state marriage or a true one. She hinted that he might be willing to listen to her.
- Peter has a son, Joseph Stalin, who has a daughter. This is the line of succession.
- At Valhalla the Nordic Allies were working on rifling and . . . something else. Catherine never saw or was told what it was, but from the way the Russians at the base talked she gathered it was a ship. And they spoke of the difficulties transporting iron and coal through the Ukraine.
- Catherine is relatively devout.
- Peter is completely paranoid, and still hasn't relinquished his dreams of world domination.

Uhhh Ravus. ilduce isn't imprisoned. He's dead. Gone, kaput, passed on, is no more, has ceased to be, expired, gone to meet his maker, he is an ex-ilduce.
Why do you think I asked Catherine in the talks with her if she wanted to visit the grave of Ilduce the Betrayer?

Phew, I had just postponed my life for three days to read everything in this thread, though, I decided to simply skim over the last 50 pages or so. I believe I am to speed with whatever the latest on this game. Ravus's book helps, but I couldn't refuse to not read all the drama and discussion involved in the thread. I am not a masochist, if that's what you are thinking 
I've been thinking about join in with the whole mess, but haven't decided of whose side I am going to be with. For now, I am independent and will be observing the development and direction where this all going.
It's too bad that the last few pages have been full of a series of distraction, for better or worse. However, it seems the relation with Russia may very well become much worse, whether intentionally or not. If Cathy is indeed will be executed by Peter anyway, probably keeping her alive, and persuade her to British's cause may be an advantageous move. Though, perhaps caution is needed in this case.
If Ragnar's stance toward British is soften, then we may want to think of the possibility declare war to Russia to take Irish away from them, providing there's a way to prevent Ragnar attacking us (OOC: if Ragnar ask for something in diplo, if it's not too much, give in so we get the 10 turns peace treaty).
My game style is a hybrid of empire builder and warmonger. Peace is the time to build up the empire, including, the military might for possible expansion. Diplomatic is a mean to obtain what is needed for the empire. Keep your friend in dark to deceive your enemy, and keep your enemy closer, so you can strike them at will. In the end, I probably join a party that is closer to my way of playing Civ.

You've pretty much described the Imperial platform. Perhaps you will consider joining us when you are ready?
Personally, I think that war with either Russia or the Vikings means war with both. I think that we should still make a first strike on the Vikings, with reserves ready to defend against Russian counter-attacks, or, if none comes, to attack their holdings in Ireland. Russia is the lesser threat, I imagine, since they are being consumed by the Arabs.
Lighthearter: I'd prefer to forgo the AR battle and get on with the game, but you could still just play it out with Nuke to test the mechanics. I think a general test is a good idea to make sure they work as intended.

Also, what LH forgot to mention is that, at the time of the attack, the prototype ship was out at sea. So that means that it is still within their possession, if I am not mistaken.

@Ninjacow- I appreciate the offer, but i am curently happy in Independance, and if I were to join a party I would probably be happier in a 'Coldly Logical Party for Maximium Efficiancy Killing'

@Valhalla- It sounds like an Ironclad, and combining cannons with agressive rifles and Cossaks isn't exactly fun for the enemy.
On Illduce- his death may be a little extreme from the sound of Captain Fargle's references to pain and horror, but after the trouble he's caused and the trechary he commited, I fully support his execution, as an example of what awaits traitors. Particularly after Avalon.
