Realpolitik - Immortal Storms

And you'll get it. The right-wing party is coming sometime tonight.

Looking forward to seeing this Right wing party, and the subsequent political fight for votes! Update is in the works right now. So you guys know, we did not use Advanced Start, however I played the first 20 turns to get the nation in gear and so you can start facing real issues immediately.

I would also advise you to check out the original RP on these forums, the one I linked to earlier in this thread. Take inspiration from it, give your party a logo, get ready for events in the style of those given to players in that one. Its the main inspiration in the style of this RP.

Deutscher Staatsangehöriger Party

The Deutscher Staatsangehöriger Party (DSP) is a conservative and libertarian alliance with three major goals concerning the future of Germany.

1. Personal Freedom
2. Economic Security
3. Military Supremacy

We support a free economy trade in Germany, as government interference in the free market breeds corruption and waste. We also support a strong military force, but are willing to talk diplomatically with our neighbors. It is not the government's place to dictate social policy, rather it is to protect the rights of the common man from those who would seek to take them. Under our leadership, the nation will prosper, our armies will stand triumphant over our enemies, and no man will go hungry!

Leben lang die Leute! Leben lang Freiheit! Lebt lang Deutschland!

UPDATE 0

4000 BC - 3200 BC

Diaries of John Armitage

I am Immortal.

Many are in this world. While the mortals live and die, leaving their deeds to the inaccurate histories, a select few of us live on, living, fighting, leading our nation. I mostly stay out of the politics, however most of the Immortals take an active role. Sometimes, too much of an active role.

As I am writing this, our people is in the midst of a schism. This valley we have migrated to has been split by a river down the middle, with the General Bismarck leading a small group of Immortals and the Mortals that follow them east. They settled down as we did, but now our peoples face each other down, tensions running eternally high.

Perhaps things will be reconciled eventually. But they haven't yet. This is my diary, my record of the Events of West Germany as we call ourselves, its people, and the Immortals that guide them. Hopefully as I write this in my home on Mount Riade, History shall be preserved.

4000 - 3960 BC

Almost immediately after the death of Lighthearter I and the subsequent schism in the Germans and our tribe, Frederick I decided to settle down. The valley we had migrated to was lush and plentiful in everything our people could possibly want. Not to mention that the schism and the reaction to it called for some measures to be taken to ensure future stability. Frederick himself settled down in Munich, just to the west of the Rhine River. However he also sent a group of water minded tribesmen and their families Northwest in order to settle on the coast of a bay that was filled with fish and other sources of food. Two cities were established, giving Germany a powerful base start.

You should also know that Bismarck settled those who followed him in a pair of cities to the west as well. There are rumors of fabulous resources near those cities, such as a metal they call Gold, however never put much stock in rumors.

Even after the schism we were left with a fairly large tribe, and even as we settled down we had more or less a division of labors. Warriors trained to be warriors, and then there were those families that traditionally did a lot of the gathering of food and local hunting. Our capital, Munich, was protected by the best warriors our tribe could produce, and the workers didn't have to search too hard for food as the area we had settled had almost too much food for us to consume at once!

Cologne was also settled in a fantastic spot, mostly done for the nearby hill that some scouts identified as a future mine, and for the access to the Bay. Although so far we have had trouble finding a way to get too deep into the Bay, we can tell its full of fish, clams, and other sources of food and that the bay is well protected. The scout continued further Northwest after the settlement was founded, but the workers and warriors stayed at home. They had work to do.

3960 - 3800 BC

While all was quiet for Mortals as several generations passed, it was a blink of an eye to most of us Immortals before we encountered others that had settled down. They seemed to be focused north of the great Mountain Range on the Northern Edge of our knowledge, and we assured them we had no hostile intentions.

It is also worth noting that around this time we began to have serious progress in teaching ourselves the techniques of 'Agriculture'. It seemed to have the potential to increase the already enormous flow of food to our cities and allow us to keep growing, but the work had not yet been completed.

As we met Charlemagne of the Holy Roman Empire as noted above, we were also reaching out our influence and way of live farther and farther out. Soon we found ourselves seeing West Germans settling outposts and claiming land for West Germany on both banks of the Rhine, as well as around the hills to the South, which people claimed to contain Silver! If we could get a team of workers to confirm this they could build a mine in the hills, which would be wonderful for our budding country.

3800 - 3680 BC

Meanwhile reports began to filter in about the findings of our numerous scouting expeditions to the west. While they haven't yet met any other civilizations like ours, they have discovered that the only known way out of our valley to the west is a narrow and easily fortifiable passage at the mouth of the overall valley. This could prove useful should we find ourselves at war with somebody outside the valley. There are also these creatures they have named 'Elephants', although they have not figured out any uses for them yet.

Around this time people now called 'Farmers' began to perfect the art of creating fields of food that would grow by season! This would be a great boon to our civilization as it grows on.

3680 - 3320 BC

Our situation would continue to improve. Soon we were what i might venture to call a powerful civilization. However Bismarck was considered by many to be the superior German State. East Germany had successfully built a number of mines and pastures along their side of the border, and the pastures especially resulted in a lot of envy in our country as we attempted to perfect Animal Husbandry.

Bismarck so far had not had directed and official communication with our fledgling country, however from gossip picked up from the few existing travelers from East Germany, the general feeling is one of hostility towards the West.

Our scouts to the West outside the valley had success though. They found an 'Indian' civilization led by a man named Ghandi. It is said he is a very peaceful man, however what is said is not always what is true.

3320 - 3200 BC

Towards the end of the Rule of Frederick our scouting expeditions to the west came to an end, resulting in the new knowledge of a vast amount of territory. Although not fully documented, there was also a major revelation in that there was a southern entrance to the valley as well. It was a difficult and often snow covered journey through the mountains and foothills nearby the peaks, but it was passable by large forces in good weather.

It is my thought that the passage into the valley to the west and south be watched, guarded, and eventually fortified through any means available in order to secure the safety of our cities and lands.

Munich, our capital, has proven to have a talent for multiplying its population many times over. By far the largest city that we have knowledge of, once we establish widespread farms and pastures it will surely result in an even larger city. It is a wonder the builders have managed to keep pace with the growth!

Cologne on the other hand, while not so enormous as Munich, still has grown a lot as well. Many in fact are pushing for a public effort to learn how to sail on the bay so that we may secure our northern frontier against possible invaders and barbarians now that Cologne has grown large enough to become a juicy target.

We have come far. So far. But we still have so much progress to come, I can feel it as I write this! Truly, our civilization shall stand for centuries upon centuries unless I miss my guess...

Recently Frederick has announced a new system for choosing future leaders: Elections! The Immortals shall vote upon the leader from among themselves, and this new 'President' shall have total authority to keep or bestow as he sees fit during his administration.

So elections have begun! Each Turnset will be 20 turns, which means once elected to the office of president, the president will have around a week to form and send a plan for the nation over those 20 turns. I will execute the plan, then write an update for that turn set, then the administration will have a chance to create a new plan or modify the original. After 2 turn sets (40 turns) new elections will be held and the opposition shall have a chance to get into power. Rinse and repeat.

Now campaign! Fight! Convince the rest of us that you are worthy to run for the office of president and run this nation!

Sometime during the nation I will post a few of the major issues of the nation, so be ready for them. Nothing major at this stage though. Also, if you don't mind, do you like this update style? Or would you rather a different one?

I like the style. Um, resource map? It's hard to determine what to promise not knowing th exact resource spread

Looking good, great starting spot besides the other civs crammed right next to us.

I like the narrative style, it gives color to the game.

Edit: Im creating the German Federalist Party

Our beliefs generally support a strong German state. We believe in the seperation of power among many different individuals so that the government is more accountable. We favor the civics of slavery, hereditary rule, buearaucracy, and free market. We are highly nationalistic favoring anything West German (pro state religion, anti ethnic groups), but are willing to make trades beneficial to the german people, however wish to maks no long-lasting, entangling alliances (nothing stronger than defensive pact), however do favor Imperialism (forced vaslization via capitulation vs complete and outright conquering). We favor an eventual reuinification, though it is not the most pressing matter at this time.

If elected we will implement a cabinet that divides up the powers of government over seperate secretaries. These secretaries will be: Secretary of Domestic Affairs (controls workers, and tile working of cities), Secretary of Arts and Sciences (controls tech path, tech slider, cultural slider), and the President (controls military, can veto the actions of the secretaries and governors with the support of atleast one other secretary or governor), all of which come from the coalition in power. From independents and opposition parties a Secretary of Parties (can veto actions with the support of the president). All appointments are made by the party in power. Governors of cities are elected by seperate vote and control city builds.

Our initial polocies will be to secure our military security, and economic success.

You have almost the same ideology as the DSP. :p

Well my party is a more than a couple hundred years before the european ideals of liberalism and such were formed. It obviously doesnt reflect my actual beliefs.

Four parties and seven (correct me if I'm wrong) players, this ought to be an interesting election...

Four parties and seven (correct me if I'm wrong) players, this ought to be an interesting election...

And half the players are in either the IDP or PLPD.

I promise to fully exploit all the food resources if you elect me president, West Germany, as quickly as possible. Abundance of Food is a fundamental right of humanity, whether man or woman, east or west, or even Forgiener. The silver I promise to exploit, so as to increase the wealth of the average human.

I promise to fund the development of sailing to help increase the strength of the economy.

I promise to back the foundings of new communities to help alleviate any crowding issues.

Derp, come on Coco, make a speech!!! Call it: "Ich bin ein Münchner."

I do not wish to be President of West Germany; there is no West, only a single Germany exists, and that is the one we live in. The nation to the East, they are no longer Germans, they chose to leave. For that, we should not try to "reclaim" their territory; we should only wish to expand ours, to cover all of the land that should be German.
Her rich farmland should be exploited to allow our cities to flourish. Her free-roaming wildlife should be domesticated to benefit our people. Her rolling hills should be explored, scouted out in hopes of finding ores to be used to arm our men. Her forests should be used wisely, in order to increase the production of our cities, for today and for generations to come.
Other rising empires may use their people as a tool to give them an edge; we should not subject the Germans to anything of the sort.

Most importantly, the Progressive Liberal Party should work with others with the same hopes for the future of Deutschland, like the IDP, in order to prevail over our opposition.

Which I believe you mean the German Socialist Party(which was a nazist party)

No, I mean the DSP, the party I founded a few posts back. :)

I would like to note as a piece of advice, that while multiple parties allow you to form a coalition (this is in reference to the current situation of the conservative parties) and get the most votes out of your members, any member of that coalition is ineligible to run for president until that person manages to gain another member for their party. For example Party A and B form a coalition, but both have 1 member and so nobody from that coalition can run for president. But if Party A gains another member, then one of them can run for president, although Party B still can't put up a candidate from their own party. See the Major Party rule in the OP for further details.
