Running the country?

Right now he's ignoring the country's decision to elect a new president. He's been ignoring the country for all his life, including the last 4 years. He only cares about himself.

Trump is an idiot and a traitor. Those who follow him are fools or traitors as well. Probably both.

I'm not sure incompetency counts as treason. At best he's a corrupt incompetent useful idiot.

Looking after your own personal interests over the interests of the country you're supposed to be leading sounds like treason to me. It also seems that these personal interests also came at the detriment of the needs of the country.. And let's not forget the attempt to subvert democracy and ignore the voice of the people.. So..

Throw the douche in prison already, what's taking so long

Legally that's incompetent or corruption.

If he's been colluding with foreign government's that's treason.

I admit my definition of treason likely differs from the American government's. Trump also seems just barely smart enough to not implicate himself in anything directly, even if he has sketchy dealings with sketchy people all over the planet - including plenty of foreign governments that aren't friendly to Washington...

An American president actively working to undermine American democracy is a traitor to American ideals, American democracy, and the American people. If this does not meet the legal definition of what it means to be a traitor, that's a fair point, but perhaps the Americans need to make some.. uhm.. tweaks to their system, since it's clearly quite broken. An psychopathic idiot should not be able to just waltz in and do whatever he likes. Hopefully things will change. The world is watching.

The checks and balances are there but still reliant on congress to pull the trigger.

Well he got voted out that's another check and balance.

Remember the crazies here claiming USA was as bad as Belarus?

American democracy is in a better state than Belarusian democracy, for sure. Like, no question, America #1, Belarus #2, if these are the only 2 contestants... America would be wayyyy up above and Belarus wayy down below on some tree stump.

It's also in a better state than many other countries, but voter disenfranchisement seems to not only be a problem but also the official policy of one of the two major political countries in the country.

Neither of us are American. Their system makes first past the post look good.

Yeah, I looked over to your location before writing my post :) Their system is FPTP too, I believe (but could be wrong). It's just got the electoral college, gerrymandering, and other things rolled in for extra fun.

No there system is a bit different than fptp although it shares elements of it.

It's even worse. The main problems with fptp is a small% advantage can give you a majority of the seats and vote splitting.

Assuming a fptp Electorates are all similar in size.

EC doesn't even do that and there's no independent electoral commission either.

According to wikipedia American democracy uses first-past-the-post principles. Nothing really worth debating IMO, but that's what it says.

In many other countries if a Trump did what Trump did, he would already be in jail or the people would be in the streets.

It's got elements of fptp. But it's messed up due to how much a fire us worth based on geography.

When we had first past the post the winner pretty much always won the popular vote. The Electorates were all very similar in some ze wand boundaries got updated.

Main thing that could go wrong was vote splitting. I think one cycle we had a minority government because one left wing party got 20% of the vote but only won 1 or 2 seats out of 99.

These days if that reappeared the would get at least 24 and probably 26 or due to wasted votes and rounding.

It's like when people say that America is a republic, but not a democracy. It's both, right? These are abstract concepts that can apply to multiple situations.

The point I was making that FPTP principles are used, but don't have to be. FPTP usually leads to a 2 party system, from what I understand. If the U.S. did not use any FPTP principles in their system at all, it should in theory improve their democratic institutions.

Same thing can be said for Canada. We tried to get rid of FPTP but our politicians like it too much (cause FPTP usually helps the parties that tend to be in power, and so they don't really have all the incentives to change that, since it benefits them)

I think it's important to emphasize that treason is a legal category different from incompetence and even corruption.

I also think it's important to realize that in that case, Trump has still commited treason.
