Nexus Mods (Skyrim) is doing their part! There is an armor mod with a swastika that caused some controversy because it has a swastika on it. It's not Nazi, and the site owner has made it clear that anyone throwing a hissy fit over it will be welcome to not return. Here's a snippet of the official response:
Before the Nexus staff stepped in on this matter some of the uneducated and intolerant posts that people made were, frankly, appalling. You people, and you know who you are, should be utterly ashamed of yourselves. That stops now. I choose to allow this mod to remain on these sites because I think educating people on this symbology is more important than burying our heads in the sand and wiping our hands clean of a situation that has caused some drama. The Nazis made their own version of the swastika, tainting the original swastika in the process. They stood for censorship, intolerance and hatred. The very things some of the comments on this file page exuded in abundance against this mod. The swastika in this mod is NOT THAT SWASTIKA.

Now, you can choose to remain ignorant to the facts and attempt to claim this supports Nazism. You'll be wrong. If you continue to spread your hatred in this file's comments, or on this network of sites then you will be shown the door. You have been warned.

Allowing open use of this symbol would only serve to confuse people and lead to misunderstandings as to who is and is not a neo-Nazi.

This.
It's already hard enough to discriminate between possible Nazis and people who aren't, and that would make it even harder.

All I'm saying is that reclaiming the swastika while we live in a world where World War II is one of the biggest building blocs of our identity as a world

You'll not believe how many people don't know what WWII or who Hitler was...

Might be that the swastika is a Symbol of peace and love in Asia.
I don't think it has ever been that in Europe.
The Romans already used the swastika. I'm pretty sure it didn't stand for peace and love at that time.
Different regions, different meanings. Just accept where you live.

A lot people in Asia do know who Hitler was, but see him in the same way as casual civ players view civ leaderheads.

Actually, the Swastika had a wide variety of uses in Europe before the Nazis: As decoration, as heraldic symbol and as symbol of good luck. It was also often used to quote folkloric traditions, and it was this way it ended up being used by the Nazis: It was then copied by the Thule society, then the diverse amount of Right-Wing militias of Germany after WWI and finally the Nazis emulated this practice.

I wonder how many people in the US and Europe have had the "gentle version" tattooed on them instead of the other one.

But one thing is clear. This will certainly help tattoo parlors distance themselves from neo-Nazis and skinheads.

In theory it's nice to reclaim the symbol but in reality getting a swastika tattoo is pretty stupid considering how many people will assume it's Nazi. Why not do something less extreme than tattoos?

Oh, I know there are many. But a very large proportion of the (western) world still know of it and think of it as I described, and so long as they do, reclaiming the swastika is unachievable.

Hmm. I don't think I can disagree with anything that's been said in this thread so far. (He wrote. Possibly annoyingly.)

I've reading a lot about Hitler just lately. And although, naturally, I'm appalled by the amount of human suffering he directly caused, my overall reaction is just hilarity. He was a totally preposterous fellow who deserves nothing but ridicule. Likewise his symbol.

But in truth, it's simply a symbol. An arbitrary arrangement of lines and colours, with no inherent meaning at all.

Link to video.

In other news, tattoo parlours also offer free deathshead tattoos alongside swastikas.

That 'speed-racist' animation was funny only for a second or so (when he hit the tree right after yelling 'go back to africa'). The rest was rather stupid :/

How about we wait until the Nazis are out of living memory before trying to reclaim the swastika?

It basically would be, if people stopped making such a big deal about it. Go! June 1967.

Wut? The six day war?

What's that got to do with the Nazis fading from living memory?

edit: well, I know, the Holocaust and all that. But still...

That is my birth month, should we make a big deal out of it?

Yes. I don't see why not.

Don't you and your family make a big deal out of it once a year?

Once the people who lived back then and their children are dead, it's going to be distant enough for people to not care about the symbol. Until then I think it's best we leave it be.
