Red Death

You know, I have seen less plausible Civ wishlists than the one in her signature... and then there's the fact she's new... and the fact that many of her posts are Civ/3rd expansion speculation-based... and then there's the username which sounds portentous... almost, dare I say, assembling typhoon-like...

*strokes imaginary goatee* :mischief:

There's a Terminacarnival account on Reddit who also posts on r/civ. It has existed since 2016. You can't change usernames on Reddit.

Kinda disappointing. Yours was a perfect guess :(.

Maybe we should just go full "Kubrick faked the moon landing" on it. It should at least be entertaining.

And when we're finally unequivocally and thoroughly proved wrong, we're not. The facts which contradict our position do not contradict our position, they reinforce it. They're evidence of what we had been saying all along.

It's ridiculous, I know ... but I can't find the "entrance" to 'Red Death'.

Isn't the button supposed to be on the main level in the setup menu? It's not there for me.
Or is it under 'Multiplayer'? No button.
Neither can I choose a so named scenario when starting a multiplayer game.
I think, I've looked everywhere!

Could it be due to not-updated mods I use?
I had a button-dissapearing-issue with gedemon's 'YNAMP' mod, but he has updated it and it is still disabled anyway. I've also disabled all other mods with the exception of Sukritact's natural wonders, Notre Dame and the gold ressource. Could those cause the issue?

Or am I simply blind ... or dumb?

strange that mine wasn't disabled after the update.

I like red death but I don't think the bonuses are working, a pretty embarrassing oversight. I just played and entire game around be borderlands with the +10 combat strength near the red death toward the end, and it was nowhere to be found. it also makes sense that mutants are completely broken because the bonuses are not being applied.

The bonuses for all the teams have worked for me. Not sure why they haven't be working on your end.
Cultists and Wanderers have my favourite bonuses.

I think the Borderlords bonus is hidden in the combat previewer but their total strength is being added to.

Whatever Civ purists may think of this scenario, it's pretty popular, as far as Civ scenarios go based on Steam achievements. It's only been out one week, and already more people have won it (0.3%) than have achieved any of the gathering storm scenario achievements (0.2% win for several black death civs). A full 0.5% of Civ owners connected through steam have claimed a supply drop in the scenario.

They're not huge numbers, but I'll be curious to see if they continue to climb past other scenarios' numbers.

The borderlords bonus is in the three tiles around the blue border, the limit where the red death is going, not the one where it is currently.

Some people had reported here that the devs said those will be available for mods, but I don't know if they mentioned a date, and AFAIK there was no update to the Development Assets depot on steamDB since 6 months.

The Red Death graphical assets were released yesterday (18th Sep 2019):

Played my first MP match last night (Preppers, higher unit experience gain), and it was fun as long as you don't expect too much. Ended up as a "finalist" but lost against the last other guy (Pirates, less damage from water and quick embarking).

The main criticism I have is that it's a bit too RNG-based. There's some maneuvering strategy to spread out just the right amount to try and nab the most goodies, but what you get is entirely luck-based. My opponent ended up with tanks and a couple of rocket artillery units, while I had some infantry, an AT unit and mostly machingunners.

Held my own and even destroyed a couple of tanks, but ultimately the force imbalance became a decisive factor. I couldn't quite entrench and take up a defensive position with my veteran MGs with enemy rocket artillery raining down on me from beyond range. The Pirates also had a helicopter advantage which I couldn't counter either due to the loss of mine destroying a tank which would've otherwise flanked my entire force.

The borderlands bonus is for being near the safe zone barrier, not the Red Death barrier.

I was curious. Then watched "just one more" youtube Red Death battle ...
After several more 'Let's plays' in which I found unexpected amounts of tension, action and fun, I would be really interested in an AI being able to play better than just "avoid radiation and move towards scripted goals, resources".

Also the maps should be less random: at least don't split the scattered units of one player with the starting red zone (because that executes this player), but generate the very first Red Death zone tiles in a column (ideally inmost the broadest space) between players.
And have on the opposite side of the map the last few tiles of the save zone engaged unconditionally with (3 .. 7?) Land terrain instead of only water.

Even better would be fair, hexagonal maps consisting of 3 or 6 absolute rotation symmetric sectors with so many players starting in the corners. So that the shrinking zone could lose one outside ring after the other.

From the aesthetical point of view I'd prefer another narrative for the shrinking save zone: plague epidemic or flooding (other timing with little tech tree?!)
