As an Englishman, to all Scotsman reading this. If your nation votes "yes" I will not bear any grudges.

I wish you well on your own path. I believe you will be a successful nation. I hope the bonds of kindship, friendship and trade will only strengthen in time.

Good on you Quackers, appreciated! :):):)

That's debatable; I've read that it's the other way around.

That was my understanding too. I was under the impression that the "yes" voters tended to be in their 20s, 20s, and 40s. The younger and older were more likely to be "no".

It makes sense really, as the youngest voters are likely to be the ones most anxious about their economic future, and that would suggest a reluctance to take risks.

Apologies, and thanks for the corrected information. I've been having trouble keeping all this straight in my head.

YouGov prediction = No 54 Yes 46
Edinburgh West postal votes: 77% No; 23% Yes (leak to Daily Mail).

YouGov is actually predicting Service Unavailable right now.

I really don't see how no exit polling is in any way harmful to democracy. So nobody knows the results, or even estimates of results, for a few more hours. Big deal. That in no way invalidates the election results.

It is done this way (no exit poll results before the polls close) in the UK and in Canada. I assume it is done this way in other Commonwealth countries. I remember television stations being very careful about not releasing polling data to people in Western Canada before the polls closed there. I imagine with the internet, this is very difficult to accomplish.

One thought on the question above is if you vote on Election day at 8am, and I vote at 6pm, then I might have an information advantage over you with access to polling data and might modify my vote accordingly.

I do not think it is really relevant when the question is "Yes" or "No," but where there is a three way race, having access to polling information might change how one might vote.

Slightly off topic given that the news is about to break.

As an Australian with a Scottish name and English heritage, I don't care either way, but this sure has been fun to watch.

It's a nickname for the BBC.

Never heard it used in my life though. Must be those devilish northeners

Rumours of below 55% Yes in Dundee & Glasgow. That's probably good news for No. Salmond allegedly cancelled attendance at Aberdeenshire count because it looks like going No.

Why are 16 year olds allowed to vote? When do the people finish school in Britain? :dunno:

I wonder if that counts as a "process" issue with regards to whether a recount would be allowed.

Why do British elections take so long to produce results?
