Renaming units, or at least Commanders

I hope we can rename army commanders, or that someone mods in that ability. I can see using a variety of army commanders for different purposes - a mobile, fast striking army. A defensive border army. A homeguard with lots of the promotions that enhance districts. Etc. And having a quick way to tell them apart without opening their promotion trees might be useful.

Silly, small idea that's certainly not vital, but I would like.

This needs a major bump.

You are correct, being able to quickly identify commander units is paramount. Obviously we may want one for offensive purposes, one for defensive purposes, and maybe one to buff a city.

I cannot understand the reluctance of the design team to let gamers name, rename, designate, etc Leaders, units, settlements, cities, capitals, et al. We are going to do it - through a set of Mods if nothing else - so they might as well include it from the start.

They did the same thing in Civ VI, if you remember: it took a Mod to give us the ability to name units without waiting until they had been promoted.

I'm certainly a bad example at this: I know too many historical generals and leaders not to want to name them and use the names to keep track of what bonuses, promotions, capabilites I've given them.

Defensive Leader - Chuikov, Thomas, Chamberlain, Wellington
Offensive Leader - Seydlitz, Montrose, Thomas*
City Buffer - Vauban, Nassau, Artemyev

* Fun Fact: George H. Thomas was nicknamed the "Rock of Chicamauga" in the US Civil War because his Corps held out against the entire Confederate Army on the field after the rest of the Union Army was driven off. But in fact, at no time in the entire war was a force under Thomas ever driven from a position! Furthermore three times in the war a Confederate army was driven from the field in rout: at Mill Springs, Chattanooga and Nashville. All three times Thomas was in command of the attacking Union force. He may have been the most competent General the American military ever produced

Renaming is something they always seem to leave off the initial release and then add shortly after because everyone screams about it. I guess they like being screamed at. 😅

You know wat more about military history than I do. I'd just name them "Offense Commander", "Defense Commander" etc.
