We have been great allies in the past, and our mutual partnership has resulted in the exponential growth in both of our realms. What reason would there be for the sudden halt of this alliance and our good times? I propose an extension and eagerly await your response.

France to Spain
We will honor your request. Allies we shall remain!

I assume Wednesday morning?

Simple but elegant orders sent.

To: Kingdom of France
From: Imperator Caesar Napoleon Bonaparte Augustus of the Roman Empire

We offer a three-turn NAP in the interest of peace and cooperation.

In the interest of peace and friendship we can only offer a 10 turn NAP. What say you?

To: Netherlands
From: China

We had our differences in the past, but that shouldn't prevent us from making a profit via trade between our two great nations. We propose to you a formal trade and NAP treaty to ensure good relations from hence forth between us.

To: Kingdom of France
From: Imperator Caesar Napoleon Bonaparte Augustus

We are unsure why you demand a greater length than the UKSG and Spain, but we are willing to sign a 10-turn NAP with France.

Note: Reno, please add this treaty to my orders. Sorry about that.

Orders away!

my orders were actually sent last night :band:

Rome

Address to the Citizens of Rome, 17 August, Anno Domini 1800, Ab Urbe Condita 2553

“Friends. People of this great, nay, greatest, country. I come before you to speak of greatness and of loss, of joy and of sadness. I come before you also to speak of victory and of defeat, of empires gained and lost, long ago. I come before you to speak of history, and of how history still plagues us, haunts us and, most importantly, gives us strength and unity. I come before you to speak of a rise and a fall. I come before you to speak of a long dark and of a new sun. Friends, I come before you to speak of the history of the very city we now stand in. I come before you to speak of the Mother of the West. I come before you to speak of Rome.

“We are the heirs of an ancient people. Long ago in the mists of myth did Aeneas set forth from a city consumed by fire and battle. Ausonia he sought. Hesperia, an unsettled land of riches. Italia, we call it now, this land of riches. And on Lavinia, his wife, Aeneas sired a people who would rule the world.

“The early Latins were but one tribe among many, and ever they were at war with their mightier neighbors. Yet hope came to the Latins: two boys, a Romulus and a Remus, were abandoned in a wood, raised by a she-wolf. And Romulus would go on to found a city of modest proportions at the edge of Latin control. The city was small, its people few and poor, its walls weak, but the city of Rome was founded in the year, ab urbe condita.

“This is all history you know well. You know of the rise of Rome: of the fall of the tribes with whom the Latins often fought, the defeat of the Etruscans, the great victories of the Punic Wars, the Battle of Asculum that laid the foundation for Greek inclusion in Rome, the rise of the Empire, the conquest of all the Mediterranean and beyond. And you know also of what comes after, of the corruption and the decadence, the incapable rulers and the religious strife, and, finally, in Rome itself, the long dark.

Yes, the long dark of Rome. In the east, the Greeks kept the old ways, holding together some semblance of ancient Rome, but the Romans were held in thrall, perhaps at first by conquerors, but later by religion, by the tyranny of the Pope and his clutch on such a people as had once been great. All of the Mediterranean was Rome, yet the Pope sat and did nothing as it was picked apart—by the infidel, by the barbarians, by petty kings squabbling over inches of land.

“Now, no longer. Rome is free. The long dark is over. Some would say that we should mark our days from the liberation of Rome. I say otherwise. We are Roman, we are Mediterranean, let us use the ancient measurements for the empire born anew. My friends, in this year 2553, I ask you to remember your Roman heritage, whether you be Italian, Greek or any of the other nations of Rome, remember your Roman heritage. Rome is risen again! Rome is risen again.”

OOC: It sort of loses steam towards the end. Oh well.
