    Hi,
Thanks for the fascinating and informative thread. I hope it is still active for questions, because I have an apparently simple (even naive) one that continues to bug me. That is, whilst I understand the concept of tech medians, I am frustrated in my attempts to generate a tech queue order beyond that produced automatically by beelines. Your example bulbing orders imply that selecting a custom tech-build order is possible (e.g. the chemistry - machinery combo which I haven't seen in any beelines) and you mention "control-click selection", but for the life of me I can't replicate this by any control-click combination I have tried! Have I misinterpreted the thread or am I still missing out on a basic and important interface tool after several hundred hours of CiV?

    It's Shift-click, not Ctrl.

do you have the full tech tree view open? are you perhaps on a mac?
on a pc, to recreate the chemistry picture it should be as simple as
open the full tech tree view,
    click on steel,
    hold down ctrl,
    click on gunpowder,
    click on banking,
    click on chemistry,
    click on printing press,
    release ctrl

Thanks Guys:- it is SHIFT-CLICK on my system (Windows 7, fairy standard K+M interface) and suddenly a whole new world of tech possibilities opens up! You have no idea how much time I have spent / wasted trying to work out how to replicate some of the more involved RA tech leaps shown on various threads and playthroughs. I can hardly believe I haven't cottoned on to this until now:- doh! This should hopefully knock a few turns off my GOTM performances.

You learn something new every day!

I assume this is why Great Scientists now only give six turns of your regular science instead of bulbing, the prerequisite tech for RAs was pushed back by dozens of turns, and Rationalism got turned upside down? It's like they're trying to get historical accuracy in my history simulation!

I wonder, what was the absolute fastest Science clear theoretically possible under the old system?

One lesson I learned with G&K RAs is it's best to sign all the RAs on the same turn now. That gives you 22 turns to grow your cities, build the science buildings and plop down some academies before you need to shift to a hard science focus. Then you can shift focus to maximize your bpt for the 8 turns prior to the RAs completing to get the most out of them. With some practice, which I need more of, you can get multiple techs completed from each RA.

    Settler difficulty.
There is also 100BC entry. However, these setting deviate from standard so much, they can't be considered representative in any way.

In vanilla, sub 200 was the goal. The best civs were India (more cities) and Siam (more scientists). A few people posted walkthroughs, all the way up to Diety. I don't recall any claims of getting there significantly faster on >=Emperor

Am I doin' it wrong? I aim for cultural victories, but I still sign RAs and I build science buildings through the Public School and I assign specialists to them as well as to my culture buildings. The reason I do so is that it takes some fairly robust research to beat the AI to Chichen Itza, Petra and the Alhambra. I play at Emperor level and if I want to sweat I occasionally play above that so researching sufficiently to maintain a modest military defense also seems like a good idea.

Is that necessary for cultural victories? I'm far from being good at this game however, I've managed to eke out culture wins with every civ including the DLCs although some of them were by the skin of my teeth and they finished accompanied by notifications that "XXXXX has built SS booster."

I have this massive problem where every civ in the game grows guarded and I cant sell or trade anything with anyone without ridiculous losses. =p

I'm such a warmonger for defending myself.

Would you advise using RA's in a military situation? ie: Using multiple RAs to move ahead to a significant military tech advantage. Attacking after the age advancement.

Or is it more strictly a peaceful thing.

Hello everybody! At first I'd like to apologize for my English : it's probably not very good as I'm French^^

I had some trouble with research agreements, as I begin to use them, but I don't understand very well how they work.

I'm planning to read the article, but at first, I'd like to know whether it has changed or not with gods and kings. Do research agreements still work in the same way, or are there some big differences ?

    Thanks a lot :)

yes, RAs work differently in GnK. please read this thread to catch up on the discussion. it is worth it. you could start with post #46 for stuff since GnK came out.

Well, I've read the thread since post 46, but it hasn't really taught me what has changed with G&K. If somebody could tell me (briefly ;) ) what differs from the original thread (posted November 2011), it would help me a lot. Thanks^^
