instead of using the Options menu to change settlement sorting, there's now a row of buttons at the top of the screen. the yield buttons should be self-explanatory. click them once to sort descending, twice to sort ascending (helpful for Happiness). the City button sorts by name, and the Resource Slot button sorts by number of resource slots, with factories first.

just a quick note on the new sort panel: the City icon sorts all of the settlements by name, including towns!

The sort panel doesn't seem to function at all for me. Clicking any of the icons moves the sort arrow, but doesn't actually sort the settlements. The default sorting is awful now and towns are mixed in with cities.

The unassigned resources panel also isn't sorting resources. It shows, for example, pearls, silk, tobacco, tobacco, pearls, tobacco, pearls.

Also, can you make the unassigned resources panel have a single scroll bar instead of having one for each type of resource? It's so much cleaner that way!

did previous versions of the mod work for you? this version only changed the settlement sorting, not the resource sorting, so if that isn't working then it's likely that something is preventing the mod from sorting at all. do you have any other resource mods installed that might cause a conflict?

i just tried a quick test with the three other resource screen mods that i know of:
  • KayleeR's Misc UI Modifications
  • Migdol's Resource Allocation
  • TBQ's Resource Allocation Improvements
i didn't have any trouble with the first two. TBQ's mod overrode mine (and it pushed my buttons off the side of the screen). unfortunately that kind of conflict is unavoidable when you have two mods trying to change the same data in different ways.

that said, i did not see any combination where the sorting actually failed and left things in chaotic order. i don't know what might cause that, although i might be able to tell from your game logs (specifically UI.log and Modding.log).

I previously used Migdol's Resource Allocation, but I switched to this mod a few days ago. It worked as advertised. I installed the new version yesterday and noticed these problems. Some of the features work (e.g. the labels on each settlement and the highlight on the unassigned resources box and the middle clicking shortcuts), but the rest don't.

I just verified that Migdol's mod is not installed and I've never had the other two installed. So, there shouldn't be any conflicts.

I'll PM you those log files.

thanks for the logs, they were very helpful. i was able to reproduce your problem. it's a small but critical mistake in the config options code that will break the mod for new users (or anybody who's never used the config options before). sorry about that! i'll have a hotfix out in a sec.

After the last update with the quick clearing of a settlements resources, it made me wonder if there is a QoL tweak we could use to make loading up a settlements factory resources faster. Would it be possible to make it if you put a factory resource in the weird "factory" slot on the far right, that it could automatically pull any other identical resources into any other open slots in that settlement?

yeah, i've been thinking about it. my current game just went into Modern age, and i've been wanting a shortcut to quickly load & unload factory resources. TBQ's resource mod does it the way that you describe. i try not to copy the distinctive features of other mods – i like to put my own spin on things, and improve on them when i can. tbh this is something i want for more than just factory resources, so i've been thinking about more general solutions (like holding down a modifier key to move resources in bulk).

Ah, gotcha, I've only tried one other resource mod before it went stagnant and moved to yours. Since most of mods that do similar things would interfere with each other, I would hate to see a popular mod not implement something just because another mod did it first. Most great inventions barrow from, or implement pieces of, other inventions - but I understand your sentiment. Either way, look forward to whatever you cook up!
