It was profitable to be Catholic, she pondered, peering out the windows from her giant estate. After all, she was surrounded by allies and virtually impervious to harm because of it; yet, all of her allies had land that was rightfully French.

While we do not seek conflict with our neighbor Germany, we do wish to remain friends, and therefore offer you a Defensive Protection Pact. We, quite simply, cannot support you in a war against Germany. Period. But, should you be attacked, you are just as worthey for help as the next nation.
