"Rev." Al is a bigger bigot then Imus!?!!!

I agree with you. Rev Al is Imus's counterpart.

They are both racist to the core and make racist comments.

But gets in trouble? Imus of course! Because hes white!

The difference is that the group in question was offended enough to complain and get the promoters to drop the show. If you're truly offended, start a national campaign.

Well, if even the people who are most upset with the Reverand want him to keep his radio job, what do you expect?

I expect fair treatment by the media............regardless of race........

I first saw this on Lou Dobbs. I have yet to see if FOX will live up to its slogan.

Can you give an example? I don't remember any incident, although that might just reinforce your point.
Well, in his later statements, he's basicly saying that his intent wasn't to be a dick to Romney for his beliefs, but rather to Hitchens.

Sharpton told an atheist that the Democrats who believe in god will defeat the Republican candidate. How is that wrong exactly? The article doesn't say why Romney's name was brought up. That part would be nice to know. Comparing basketball players to hoes because you're trying to be cool is a little worst IMO.

He's saying that Mormons don't really believe in God and that therefore Romney, a Mormon, will not be allowed to win.

He has freedom of speech, I will give him that, but odds are people will care a lot less than they did with Imus.

I could make an extremely racist comment here but i wont.

Maybe the jews and athiests he critisizes from time to time are smart enough not to get into a hissy fit about it. :p

Sharpton said that the Mormon canidate will be defeated by people who really believe in god. It wasn't about political parties it was about degrading the Mormon religion by saying they aren't true christians.

You are getting fair treatment. People called for Imus to step down and the press was on it. Everybody apparently wants Big Al to keep his job, so it is a non-story.

The way I see it, and it seems Perf sees things like this too, Sharpton was telling an atheist that the believers would beat a Republican. If we don't know how/when/why Romney's name came in the discussion, we're really talking for nothing.

Sounds like he was hitting two birds with one stone to me.

His name fits into the discussion perfectly if he's degrading Mormonism. As I just mentioned, it sounds like he's insulting both Atheists and Mormons at the same time, one directly and the other indirectly.

Or maybe, they don't care. Who knows? Maybe it's that the sports media is a little more influential than the Jewish or Atheist media?

And it seems very probable. Double Dick! I'm still curious as to why the tape mentionned in the article doesn't state how/why/when Romney's name came up.

Wow, Reverand Al is drinking the Conservative kool-aid

In a recent radio interview, prominent evangelical activist James Dobson said that Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney's Mormon faith "could pose a serious obstacle" if he decided to run for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008. Dobson said he thought that conservative Christians wouldn't feel comfortable casting a ballot for a Mormon.

In reading the article in the OP , it is arguable that Rev. Al was making a sarcastic point aimed at the Dobson/Hitchins crowd who are well ahead of the curve on Mormon bashing.

And the article in the OP is an AP article - so this matter is getting mainstream media attention. If it doesn't take off, it is because there is a lack of heavy lifting on the part of those who want Al to pay the price. Pull yourselves by your bootstraps Big Al haters.

Yeah, but that's not suprising, as it's true that many fundamentalists et al don't consider mormons to be "real christians". It's not as offensive because not as many people find it offensive - it's like damning atheists, really. It's a sad fact.

Exactly. That's one place where we have common ground. No matter what a person's belief system (or lack thereof), they should not be judged because of it. People should be judged on their character. I see atheists as good people as much as I see Christians as good people...I just wish others could too. So many people criticize others for judging based on faith, but when they criticise someone that they also dislike, it's all fun and games.

Its easier to be a dick to Mormons and Athiests than it is to be a dick to blacks...everybody knows that Mormons and Athiests are basically the only groups that are still okay to mock in polite company or mainstream media.

Nylan, lets get a boycott :P
