RFC Europe playtesting feedback thread

Are there any hidden modifiers against Cordoba?

Of course. There are hidden modifiers against all the early civs and bonuses for later civs. Cordoba currently has some pretty severe penalties in a (so far futile) attempt to get the Spanish AI to wipe them out.

Yes, but IMO they should appear after a certain date if possible, because currently bringing Qurtubah in size 13-14 at 1000 AD is very difficult (managed only 10)
And I settled it 1E from starting position, to give room for a good Ishbiliah. Perhaps it was a wrong approach, since it lost a grain.

3 things:

1) It would be a lot of work to redo the entire system to make modifiers be time-dependent
2) Currently the victory condition REQUIRES that you settle Cordoba on the spot where you spawn (much like the similar one for Babylon in RFC) so you would have lost anyway.
3) If you do settle in place, it is still quite possible to do the first UHV (I've done it recently), but you do have to focus on it.

You wouldn't have to to redo the whole thing. A couple of extra units at Cordoba and Tangier on spawn would help their early lead as they could capture Toledo and Marrakesh more easily. And bring back Valencia of course. The recent changes have made Spain too strong at the start. We need to restore the balance.

BTW Can I have some feedback on the tech quotes I posted in the files thread?

I think Cordoban UHV should be changed anyway.

If they're some kind of equivalent to Babylon in RFC (doomed civ, similar to Byzantines here), you should be able to win before 1500, or at that year at least.

Never made sense to me the "be first to research medicine" thing. It is far in the tech tree. It is strange. For making it difficult, the other two are hard already; controlling Iberia almost impossible.

That's why I proposed in the wonders thread to require Cordoba to build La Mezquita, Alhambra and Gardens of Al Andalus.

How does one acquire atlantic access? PLaying as the English, I see the resource just SW of Plymouth. I have built 2 colonial projects, Gold coast and East Africa, but i still dont have credit for aqcuiring atlantic access.

Any thoughts?

Work Boat, just like any other ocean resource.

Just noticed a couple of things when I started a game as Cordoba. You've now made the House of Wisdom obsolete with Chivalry rather than Education. I'm not sure what you were thinking. Instead of penalizing them you've given them a welcome tech boost. All the human player has to do is not research Chivalry and proceeed to Education and build Universities which give +25% on top of the +100% for the House of Knowledge and 25% for the Madrassah. A not bad research boost indeed.;)
But you did forget to reinstate Valencia.:(:nono:

Are downloads in the Files section save compatible?

Are downloads in the Files section save compatible?

If you mean does the latest version support saves from the last one, then yes, I think. I'm continuing a game now that I saved before I downloaded the new version. It doesn't always work though esp. if there's been major map or game mechanics changes. Try it and see.

Playing a game as Portugal, and in 1604, while having more gold and techs than Spain still get "Not Yet" for the UHV requirement.

Here are a few saves from before 1600:

Is it normal for a consistently Islamic France [apparently stemming from their conquering of Al Quds]?

Also, perhaps the "changing names" mod could be tweaked a bit, since messages with such things like "Vologda/XX city was captured by the Moscow!" or "Al Quds was captured by the Frankia!" really look a bit strange. And Frankia by itself gets a bit strange when it's already 1490 something when the Frankish Empire collapsed ages before. Of course, I remember reading that this was still in development, so...

Guys: I know about the attempt to strengthen Spain against Cordoba, but what I got in my last game...
I was playing as Cordoba. Against didn't make the first UHV, and managed to hold off Spain from my OWN territory half (though I didn't make it to THEIR half). And suddenly, somewhere around 1500, all my cities turned Spanish, and I got the message "You have been defeated!" What's going on???

Ha ha... April Fool's day...

Damn that was a nice one XD

Thanks for the bug report Barak, I've squashed that problem now.

Stoklomolvi: yes, the mod is very much still in development. The problem of what to call crusade cities has been mentioned before, and I'm working on a solution.

Any thoughts on my report on Cordoba? (post 1050)

Well, Valencia (or an extra settler) will make it back in at some point.

As for House of Wisdom. It seemed (from a couple test games) that the AI just avoided Education, and because it's not really required for any military techs they were able to do just fine and hold off the Spanish attack.

So the way I have it now, you can become quite technologically advanced as Cordoba, but only at the expense of your military. This still isn't resulting in Spain taking over Cordoba at all regularly, so...

Perhaps a better option would be to keep the obsolescence at Education, but make Education required for some key (defensive) military units.

Glad I could help. Of course, no way to win now :( Guess I will abandon a good game and try a new civ.
