RFC Europe playtesting feedback thread

Furthermore, I am willing to bet I have been in more places and done more things that you can even dream.
Who cares?

Dropping by to say that yes, we need more jewish cities, I rarely see one currently. Also, in one of my games, I noticed that Islam had been founded in Sour rather than in Dimashq; why would that happen?

Damascus was destroyed very quickly by a rogue Byzantine unit, or Sour was captured on turn 1 and then the Holy City was chosen at random from among all the Arabic cities. In any case, as long as it happens rarely it should be fine.

Buildings: Tannery costs 50:hammers: and Builders Yard costs 200:hammers:. Both buildings are doing almost the sams (+10%:hammers: and +5% for 3 resources, Tannery gets a -1:yuck:, so its ok to be cheaper, but not that much)

I suggest to change the costs of Tannery from 50 -> 100 and Builders Yard from 200 -> 150 so the total cost stays the same. A forge costs 150 too and brings simmilar benefits.
I think the low price from tannery is from an older version where it only gave +1 happy from fur and deer or something like that.

So noted.

Apparently Jedi does Opera, but thanks for your clever interjection.
It wasn't said to hurt or anything, so I hope it didn't ;)

Yeah, I only saw that once.

But it reminds me of the 'German case'. It happened frequently that they lost their capital (Frankfurt), perhaps to barbarians, in the first/second turn of their spawn, and then they got Augsburg as part of their spawn-flip, and it became their new capital. Each time this happened, they turtled a long time in there.

Just thought it may be worth reporting.

Woah! A world war just started, and almost every civilization is at war. I'm Genoa.
The Swedes declared war on Germany, starting a chain reaction. And they couldn't have done it at a better time. This war is basically Germany, England, and the collapsing Byzantine Empire, and the rest of Europe.
The year is 1543 and I just got the Triumphal Arch the turn before. And it just so happens that the world suffered a major plague, started by my very own Corsica, started in 1534. The Golden Age started by the TA kicked the plague out of all my cities except Florence, and I, being the human player, only suffered the loss of a single longbowmen by getting my units away from the cities.
On top of that, I have been planning a major war with Venice for several turns now, so my cities were already pumping out units.
I never experienced a war like this ever, even in RFC!

So that's feedback gameplay-wise. Other things I have noticed is that this game runs very fast. The only problem is I keep getting CtDs. It's not a big deal to me, but you may want me to tell you these things. How do I find the reason?

Is it consistent or random? If you make a savegame every turn and then right after a crash you reload the same game does it crash again. If it does crash, post a savegame so I can try to figure it out. If it is random, then it is probably a graphics thing (we have a lot of custom graphics), you can try to update drivers and such, but I have really no general idea.

I have been playing this thing under Linux for 4 long games with Spain, England, Bulgaria and Kiev and I had no crashes.

Kievan Rus coastal UHV is too easy, the AI gets it everytime. The first time through I thought it meant you had to have cultural influence on every coast tile across, but it seems you simply have to not let other civs have anything there. In any case I haven't seen it not get accomplished.

Speaking of Kievan UHV why do they have the exact same goal as Bulgaria? Seems kinda lame, need more creativity. Change one of them for sure. The grain goal was pretty cool, but building the same buildings as a UHV for 2 of the 4 Orthodox nations seems redundant :/

This got buried somewhere in the rubbish, think it might be important considering who posted it.

I have the goal thing on my todo list. I will change the Bulgarian one to be "Accumulate 50 Orthodox Faith Points by ... "

Kiev's one makes sense, it distracts the player form building only Drujinas for the arrival of the Mongols and adds challenge. The Bulgarian one (as is) is trivial.

I waited for the Dutch to spawn(as I want to play as them) and found that there was a huge World(Europe in sense) War, involving:

Spoiler :
ENEMY:
-France
-Genoa(French vassal)
-Cordoba
-Arabia
-Byzantium(Arabian vassal, collapsed due to Ottoman Attacks on Constantinople)
-Denmark-Norway(Norse)
ALLIED:
-Germany(HRE)
-Portugal(German vassal)
-Poland(German vassal, who collapsed)
-Austria
-Burgundy(Austrian vassal, and before France Attacked it, leaving nothing behind)
-Venice(Austrian vassal)
-Sweden
-Ottoman Turks(Sort-of, because they weren't fighting the Cordobans, Norse, or France)
-and of course me:p(the Dutch)

Is Kiev's coastal one right as is? It gets accomplished so long as Kiev is only one with influence in northern Black Sea region, which happens pretty much no matter what.

That would require more debate and consideration. I have been meaning to do the Bulgarian one for quite some time.

Crusade has been successful

That city in northeastern Anatolia is Venetian too, Trebizond. New Venice amuses me.

I have to agree, AI Bulgaria is too overpowered for some reason, something has to be done about this, because I rarely see the Ottomans expand into the Balkans just because the Bulgarians are constantly in the way

Yea, I introduced some code so that the Ottomans can never conquer any Bulgarian cities.

In my games, Bulgaria often takes 1 -2 Byzantine cities and then collapses. 3/4 times, by the time the Ottomans spawn, Bulgaria is very weak. If you see this in the new code, it might be due to the respawn dynamics. I will check it out.

Played the mod for the first time yesterday with Bulgaria. The special power is just ridiculous, combined with occupation i was grinding through the map taking everything boosting my stability sky high. Also Constantiople fell way too easily and after that the ottomans couldnt even touch me. Would be a good idea to let the ottomans get Constantinople automaticaly to make it more challenging. Awesome job renaming the cities after conquest Thesaloniki>Solun Constantiople>Tzarigrad. Keep up the good work. :goodjob:
Bulgaria definately OP
