RFC Germania

As you can see on the screenshot of post 314, some areas on the map area quite empty. Especially in the east. We could place some civs in there.

My suggestions:
Move the Burgundian spawn from Dijon to Lyon. As you can also see in the mainscreen of that screenshot, it's quite busy around there. By moving their spawn to Lyon, it will be less crowded and the empty area will be less empty. The only downside is that is it slightly less historical. But as gameplay is more important, that's not a big thing.

Add a civ in the empty area around Berlin.
For this, I suggest the Margraviate of Brandenburg. They existed for quite some time and it will fill in empty area. It will spawn in 1157 at Berlin.

Add a civ in the east.
There are some huge empty areas in the eastern part of the map. Lituania could be a candidate. This gives some competition against the Teutonic Order State or Prussia in the east. Otherwise that area will be only indies and barbs. Prussia and the Teutonic Order will be quite boring without it I'm afraid.
Spawn in 1236 at Vilnius.

There is also an empty area in eastern Hungary, but I think it's better if we don't put a civ in there and let Hungary take that area.

We could add Brandenburg but I thought Prussia was spawning in Berlin.
I suppose Lithuania could be added but we should still spawn indie cities in Livonia and the Baltic regions.

I think Burgundy should stay at Dijon. It has always and still is the heart of Burgundy. That is not something I think should be sacrificed for gameplay. Besides, that area doesn't get really crowded until later on in the timeframe.

Prussia spawns at Koenigsberg. Poland should be a major contender for both the Teutons and the Prussians, though a Lithuanian civ might be interesting to add some flavour to the area.

I thought the knights were spawning at Koenigsberg?

I agree with the Brandenburg addition. Lithuania would also be fine as a minor civ.

Hungary's job is just to fill in that southeastern area and compete with Austria so that's fine. Serbia isn't required there as that isn't the focus.

I'm just concerned with the addition of too many civs that the game may get too crowded.

Also, technology needs to be addressed as the start time is different from what has been used elsewhere.

I tried using Bavaria and got a crash after the first turn... anyone else have that problem?

I could play Bavaria without any problems. (played to 1000+ AD)
I did however get some python exceptions. Do you have them enabled? If you didn't, that could cause the crash.

It's in the civ4config file.
Search for "HidePythonExceptions" and set the value to 0.

It's also useful to enable the cheatcode while modding. It gives info of civs, tiles you normally wouldn't get, which is very useful for coding/testing. For me, the most useful thing of that is that I can see the coordinates of the tiles. (press shift or ctrl and hoover over the tiles)
Search for "cheatcode" (also in the config file) and change it to:
CheatCode = chipotle

I support Lithuania. they don't have to be playable but I think they should be in.

I assume we want a HRE mechanism and unions?

unfortunately Morholt never posted the DLL sources for RFCE++, so we're on our own with those.

the HRE can be based on the United Nations, which can be an invisible building that moves with the Emperor title.

unions can probably be all python.

I'd be happy to work on those 2 things if you want.

Great!
It was very unfortunate that Morholt disappeared the way he did...
Nevertheless, I'm interested in both the Union system and the HRE mechanics for vanilla RFCE too!

srpt if you could do that that would be amazing!

edit: also fixed the Bavaria problem... I'd updated the files with the svn wrong :P

Here are some UHV names that I have for some already-created UHV's on the spreadsheet:
Hesse:
UHV1 - One City to Rule Them All
UHV2 - Prussians, Smussians
UHV3 - You Say You Want A Reformation
Bohemia:
UHV1 - Hussite Wars
UHV2 - Bohemia At Large
UHV3 - Bohemian Rhapsody
As you can tell, most of them are (somewhat) silly. But, I feel like I did my part today!

Didn't realize how inactive this thread was.

More Ideas:

Teutonic Knights UP: Power of Crusader State: Faster production of religious buildings, or No anarchy in conquered cities.

Lithuania Leader: Mindaugas (from RFCE)

Bavaria UU: Rhenish Knight

Lombardy UHV: Italian Renaissance: Have 10,000 culture by 1400
And I prefer their capital at Milan instead of Verona. Verona has changed hands more I think than Milan, especially for Venice.

Venice (I know it is minor, but just in case)
UHV 1. La Serenissima: Have Venice be the wealthiest and most populous city in year X
UHV 2. Terra Firma: Control modern Veneto, Istria, Friuli, and the lagoon* in 1410
UHV 3. Italian Wars: Ensure there are no non Italian civs in Italy in 1600
*I suggest making having a few land tiles around Venice and its lagoon as a separate province away from Veneto.

Austria
UP: Habsburg Dynasty: Less instability from expanding into foreign lands. (France's from RFCE)
Alternate UHV: control Austria, Bohemia, Tyrol, Styria, Moravia, Carinthia, Silesia, Moravia, and Upper Hungary by 1648

Hungary (I think you can move their spawn date to 896, RFCE's)
UHV 1. Arpad Dynasty: Settle the Carpathian Basin by 1038
UHV 2. The Second Shield of Europe or Leaders of the Long Campaign: destroy 50 Ottoman units by 1547*
UHV 3. Hungary's Black Army: Control the most territory in 1490
*Ottoman units spawning in the SE should happen in 1453, 1481, 1520, 1529, and in between these years. Belgrade or another corner city should spawn/flip by 1520 to them as a capital. (Needs more input)

Electorate of Brandenburg
UHV 1. A Margrave at Heart: Control 2 provinces, and one in the Rhineland in 1320
UHV 2. The wealthy electorate: Have 4,000 gold in 1414
UHV 3. A united Brandenburg: Control a contiguous empire from Lower Saxony* to East Pomerania in 1618
*no idea how provinces will be split/made.

And will Lutheranism and Calvinism be included for the reformation instead of a simple catholic or Protestant thirty years war? Just a thought.

I've got some more UHV names! Whoo!:
Austria
UHV1 - Gems of Austria
UHV2 - Bane of Prussia
UHV3 - Hapsburg Dominance
Frisia
UHV1 - Extent of Frisian Piety
UHV2 - Cornered in the Lowlands
UHV3 - Magna Frisia
