RFC is dead, long live RFC

I was thinking about how cool it would be to have a "Rhye's of Rome" the other day, actually. People could finally play as the beloved Celts. :P
Though new UHVs would be nice, "scenarios" such as this would be awesome.
Like a specific modmod (Or perhaps a completely revamped mod, who knows) for each area/era.
Europe is clearly being done, and would probably provide the best gameplay. Rhye's and Fall of the Middle East would be cool, East Asia could work too. Or pre-fall-of-Rome Mediterranean.

Zach that's exactly what I had in mind :)
Maybe a short story telling the history of the new earth? I'm just writing this post and already I'm filled with ideas! I'll start drawing a new earth tomorrow and maybe start writing some history for it too. We could have a contest for best new earth and then start modding it! I'm leaving you with the honor of choosing the main rules for new earth. Let's hope this thing catches on!

Yes! I am more giddy than a catholic school girl... or something like that...
But yeah!!! My first online BFF:banana:. (The perfect emote.)
My map is kind of big, I'll try to show what I have on Paint.

I'll name some parts of the map later tonight as an example.

Got in a WIP. (Pretty Big)

Spoiler :

The way I see it, the NW of the map could be religious to the natives on the continent, so we could spice up RFC with alternate, probably made up religions. I imagine them thinking that only gods could have perfected such beauty, while scientifically they were created by parallel glaciers retreating during the end of an ice age. That is just one of many ways we can put a backdrop on the map.

The map seems really cool! I'll draw mine soon.
EDIT: Here's the prototype, I'll try to create it on a WB file and will make it better I hope, the map seems to be too empty of mountains and deserts, so if anyone would like to toy with it a little go ahead, also it may seems like there's not enough rivers but I only marked the biggest rivers of the world, I'll make lots more in WB.
Legend: Brown = Mountains. Blue = Rivers\Lakes. Yellow = desert.
Forests\Jungles\Hills\Plains\Grasslands\Food Plains will be created in WB file.

Something I realy like to see is being able to conquer an other civ, and when it collapses, being able to re-install the civ as you vassal. During the course of history many puttet-states were installed by strong nations, even during recent times.

Also something nice is the bombing missions from road to war (would be good for cruise missles) and the broken star mechanism to buy upgrades. When you have nationalism, you lose the merc's, and armies become linked to the nation. A nation might spend a lot of money for a well equiped army, so being able to buy promotions after nationalism could do the trick.

BED (you gotta love the acronym)... since I would hate to thread hijack, lets just edit our other posts, and if it catches on to one other commenter, I'll start a new thread later. I have driver's ed in an hour from now. BTW, good detail on your map.

Thanks, I'll post a short story of the history of my new earth later today.
EDIT: Seems I won't have time to write the whole history of new earth today, I'm going to post 3000-1000 BC. Please write your opinions, wether they're good or bad, I can take criticism. I wrote too much detail, I know, that's just my style of writing I guess :P
Also I used names from RFC but I'll change them when I'm done with the history part.

Reminds me of a drawning i drew when I was 5....

How can RFC be dead? At present, an AI Euro-controlled India practically impossible. Turkey is almost always the second or third most advanced civ after England and America; Japan, France, the Netherlands, and Germany remain backwaters all game and never catch up. Portugal is regularly second most advanced in Europe, Mongolia rarely conquers China, Russia never discovers Steam Power (Time Victory happens before they get that far) despite the fact that it really industrialized in the 1930's and was first to discover Satellites. Rome doesn't make it past France and the Balkans, Japan never conquers China. America usually doesn't even reach the West Coast! There's still a lot of room for improvement in RFC.

I think his point was that any improvements to be made are minor; the mod as a whole is complete, and therefore dead.

I think his point was that he is too good at RFC since he has clocked an absurd amount of hours playing it :king:

I would no call this these minor improvements. I already had pointed out a similiar list but with even less points and frankly these new points are all well founded.

So want we want to point out is that the mod needs major improvements and is far from finished (to quote myself when I wrote a message several months back to Rhye (we discussed about Russia) : "This monster will haunt you for a life time" meaning that his creation has stirred so much response that people will keep demanding improvements)

The foundation of the mod is awesome and revolutionary and the concept of historical accuracy combined with quick game speed is just overwhelmingly appealing. Hence the mod is not finished ..

...and the concept of historical accuracy combined with quick game speed...

Anyway, I never said that I agree, that's just what I got from what AP said. I actually disagree (although he did make some good points), but even so, I think RAND has much more potential than RFC, simply because the possibilities are endless.

I think maybe "complete" might be a more pleasant term than "dead" in this case. :-)

I agree. The game has set out to do what it intended to do, and I think it has done it quite successfully. The point of games is to play them not tinker with them forever. FFH2 is nearing a point when their mod will finally be complete as well. Rhye just finished his quicker. Deal with it. :)

There's still a lot of room for improvement in RFC.

I agree, mostly in the area of AI ineptitude. However, plague pretty much sacrifices some AI skill in the name of speed.

For an example of what's possible in innovation, witness the introduction of the hero/legion system in the History of the Three Kingdoms mod. Maybe they'll allow Rhye to adapt it for RFC.

RFC RAND is far more than a work in progress. RFCE is a work in progress. I think most people are TOO used to RFC and cannot accept different mechanics. So if you really think RFC is dead (which btw is a wrong statement, let's say you are done with it), you should be ready to accept that a different mod will have different mechanics. Certainly RAND can use some improvements and it isn't as polished as RFC, but it's still fun to play and offers very interesting and diverse challenges.

Hello,

I just checked out the Three Kingdoms ... you know these guys have LEAPED to the TOP. I will only update the terrain with the graphics from FFH, but besides that this HoTK is just hot !
