Are lumbermills useful in Vanilla or RFC? From what I have read the generally suck.

My friend who plays Immortal loves lumbermills...


Allthough I have always wonder, what happens when yuou build a lumbermill and then chop the forst?

They would probaly dispapear, but the strenghth in lumbermills is that they preserve the forest, which allows you to have +1 production on the tile, so with railroad +3 production on a tile and if the forest is next to a river it adds +1 commerce to counter the negation forest have to river commerce bonus, basicly if you want to keep a forest for the health bonus and/or happiness bonus then in normal Civ then you should keep it, for RFC, tundra tiles not next to rivers that have forests on it, you can get a tile with 3 production, which is better than an engineer, but does not produce great people point. Basicaly they aren't very good in normal civ, have some purposes in RFC, but if you try a production economy like me, then they are useful for tiles that would overwise only be able to have cottages, which i don't find very communist, to use a tile that could be for industry or farms to produce gold.

Great update! BTW, I use lumbermills quite a lot, if I have any forests left by the point I can build them - especially in production cities, which I often place near lots of forests and where I usually try to keep six to eight. Mines are better on hills, but only by dint of the chance of discovering a resource.

Part 4.0: Fascist Agression

“Forces began being shifted to the front lines. I split the red army into 5 groups. 1 based in Leningrad is to attack the German Lapland. Forces stationed in Minsk are to go straight for Berlin. Forces stationed in Kiev are to attack Hungary to eliminate the German oil and then to capture Budapest, while portion are to travel through Romania to attack and eliminate the Greek fascists; we will not make the same mistakes as the Tsars. Our Tanks will be able to breakthrough any German trench lines. The 5th Army is to be stations in the Turkmen SSR to counter any Indian offensive, and to invade Indian Afghanistan, which will give us a Defensive line of mountains and the Indus river so we can concentrate on bringing down the Italian, and when we destroy the Spanish fascists the remaining fascist countries will scramble and will loose power, and the people will rise up and join the World Wide revolution!”

Part 4.8: World War 2

“Since our strategy against the Fascists involved attacking Germany first, I declared war the same day. About half of the tanks set to be built in the 6-year span were built, enough to take them on, but they still had to be shipped to the front line. The 5th 5-year plan had to be cut short. We went on to declare war on the Fascist Italian rebels, but they told us that the Andean Alliance would defend them. It turned out that during the congress fascist revolutionaries seized control of the country. We went ahead anyway as the Andeans had not taken our side in the fight against Fascism, and so the only neutral nation left was Egypt. The Second World war had begun!”

Axis: Spain, Germany, Greece, Italy, Mexico, India, Andean Federation, and Mali
Neutral: Egypt

I like how I got all the big players of the actual allies in, and the there is Arabia. What is better I think China is going to become communist next turn. Here is a question: Permanent alliance or not. For all intensive purposes I could also make a permanent alliance with England. I even have a Switzerland: Egypt

I am going to prolonged Stalin's life till a few years after the end of this war. He may live to be over 100, but if that happens he will die whether the war is over or not because i don't want him being over 110. So, you may ask, what happened to the advisor?

Part 4.9: In 23 years of 5-year plans, the soviet union has gone very far. Gold output is now the same as World War 1 Golden Age levels. Also, watch the Americans, i might have given them the Louisiana purchase land with world builder, but the rest is all them. They slowly have been climbing the score charts and they will be second at the end of the war. the reason england is so high is because of science, which is high because of their gold output. Basicly the american golden age is about when the revolution happened

Production is nearly double what is was in the golden age. Now factories only make 75% mroe porduction, so the rest of this is due to rapid growth of siberian cities from watermills.

food has been steadily climbing with population, although a sharp increase was made with the watermills.

There is a flat section in between the fast growth and slow growth, that was the revolution. When the power starts going very high up, that is whent he tanks started being built. The increase is so sharp you can not even see the top part on the whole history time scale, it is hiding in the edge.

Now take another look at them. Pay Attention to America, England, Spain, and China, they are the great powers.

So the Lappland has 2 cities, while i should only have 1. I am going to Raze Lulea to make room for Oulu as the capital of a Finnish SSR, and I will keep Hammerfest (I love that name) to work the mineral resources, and to gain a useful port that isn't blocked by English colonies in norway. Then i will invade Sweden, change the name of Uppsala to Stockholm and name that the Swedish SSR. Now I can't decide if i shoudl raze Nidaros and resettle a city in northern sweden. So i want to see what you guys think. Eventualy if i get Norway from England then I would raze Stavangar to get Bergen, sicne Stavangar is making Oslo vey unproductive, which will be the capital of the Norwedgen SSR, if i capture it. So those are my plans for Scandinavia, i will let you know my plans for the German homeland later

It is great how things line up so perfectly! I get my golden age to simulate the people's will to work harder for the war, i aked china to Adopt State Property and they did. I am wondering if i should make a Permanent Alliance, or if I should leave room for a Sino-Soviet split. They friendly with me, as well as england and America. I could technically also get a permanent alliance with America. Arabia and France are pleased with me. So i have a good block of friends, it is sad that i will have to breakoff the friendship when the war is over, but as long as Spain remains Fascist, i will consider all of her allies and my enemies fascist. I should converts it will be like all of they are not fasict anymore. I see her defensive pacts as vassalage agreements, so she has colonies of Mexico, Mali and India, whiel being allied to Andean-Rome and Greco-German alliances.

I am decided agaisnt Permanent alliance, simply because history says the realtions sour in the future. Now if i had BtS i would vassalize them, that when when they got more powerful they could break away. Also if I could vassalize, I would vassailize Germany as the Warsaw Pact, and Greece as Yugoslavia, and America as United Socialist states of America (USSA) But in Vanila you have to actualy Occupy lands. Well, my stability does go up with Every conquest thanks to Occupation, and more land means i can build a stronger economy, as longs as i don't expand too fast I should be able to occupy America eventualy, even if it is for a short time, that is one of my goals.

Anyway, this update is an ALternate history of World War 2, if the Soviets were the agressors agianst Germany. Now the Red army in the early days was un organized and ineffiective, so it will be when it invades. (Also because i fail at launching Industrial aged assaults before Airplanes) But they do get organized eventually.

“The Soviet Forces mobilized in 6 directions. A direction was added to the plan to capture Tehran to secure the oil there, while our ally in Arabia is suppose to secure Iraq from Greece. We have 13 tank divisions and, and 2 are being sent in to each route of attack. The last one is to be sent to Berlin!”

“The Tanks that were stationed in Minsk and Kiev Advanced deep and quickly into German territory, within days of the declaration of the war, we were already at the Wista river, had crossed the Dnister river, thereby avoiding the trench warfare that plague world war 1, and fresh tanks from Europe were able to reach the Danube river on the German Border. In the north the 1 division of tanks already reached the Kemijoki River, while the other was not far behind. The advance was swift and brutal and so the German forces did not have time to mobilize, while the infrastructure had been decimated in World War 1 so they won’t be able to mobilize quickly. The artillery is going to sit this fight out, they are out of date and would do no good, we are currently working on a new design, but Infantry equipped with as many AK-47s as we could muster are marching behind the tanks to occupy the land, they are just rifleman given better guns and they have not be trained to use the AK-47s, but when the factories are done in the West Asian SSRs and Siberia, we will trains special troops who will be able to use the guns effectively and will be able to carry out amphibious assaults. While our cannons are ineffective against Germany, they are effective against India and the Persian city states, small numbers of Mounted Rifleman and Cannon are being sent to engage the city of Tehran, and 2 divisions of Calvary managed to capture Qandahar because it was weakly defended by only one India Rifle Division. The country itself is still resisting the Soviet Union in guerrilla warfare however, so the tanks are still being sent to occupy the country and set up a defensive line along the Indus River.”

“Patriotic fervour swept through the Motherland, all over workers and peasants alike produced more for their country. Industrial production was at 150% and Tanks were being built so fast that we they were driven out of the factories before the paint dried. To make things better Chinese Communists took control of China. We made agreements to divide the Fascist controlled India along the Indus, and Japan would go to China, while they would support us taking over Europe in the name of Communism. No longer were we alone in the world!”

“Berlin was heavily defended and once again Russian forces stared at it from across the oder. Forces that had occupied Denmark marched to face the Red army. They Reached the Wista river, but I ordered that the offensive forces be terminated before they outflank us. We lost both tank divisions because the highly trained Nazi SS were in the forest and the tanks could not manoeuvre, but more tanks were on the way! In the north 5 calvary divisions died on an ill planned charge on Lulea. I should not have killed all my generals… While forces assaulting Tehran tried to match their comrades feats in Afghanistan by trying to take the city, but it was highly defended. Militarily we suffered major defeats, and the German cities are highly defended with Nazi SS guards. If Adolph Hitler will hide behind his peoples homes; I will stand behind my countries guns and tear down every last one of them! The one triumph we had it this year was we captured the German source of Oil, they will not be able to build their Panzers to counter our T-47s!”

“By 1952, the Red army kept trying to assault the cities the Nazis hid in, but they failed every time. Artillery outfitted to be better were being sent in, while soviet scientists worked on a way to make hiding in cities obsolete.”

“Hitler kept trying to push us back, more and more of his forces left the city of Berlin to engage us in the field, we took equal amounts of casualties in the field, while our casualties mounted when attacking cities. But the improved artillery were coming to tackle the problem of cities, and the scientist are developing a way of assaulting a city from above. While in Greece, we easily captured Constantinople and the Bosporus, and renamed it Car’grad. Now we had an outlet to the Mediterranean. The tanks move on to Athens.”

“Through attrition Hitler’s forces eroded away in Budapest, they are without defensive units at full strength , while the red army has surrounded Berlin. Generals have amassed experience and now consider waiting to plan larger attacks from all sides of the city is the best plan. By next year a great offensive will be launch that will cripple Hitler’s chances of winning forever.”

“In 1955, Hitler shot himself, and his Fascist Reich crumbled without him. All that was left was the final offensive to solidify Red army control of German lands. Italy was able to establish control up to the Danube, while French forces gained control of Western Germany. Russia gained control of the Baltic states, Transylvania and Poland, while Czechoslovakia, Hungary and most of the Balkans still fought under the Nazi flag. Italian forces attempted to re-gain strategic control of the area. We must gain control of these areas before the Italians do.”

“The east Prussians were deported to Berlin and we settle a new city with Russians, named after the President of the Russian SFSR Kalinin. With Adolph Hitler disposed of and Ionis Metaxas within our reach, only Mussolini stands in our way to the leader of the Fascists General Franco of Spain. West Germany is to be administered by the Americans from the towns of Hamburg and Frankfurt (Which I world buildered in). Athens is about to fall and now with experienced generals we are not to make the same mistakes against Italy as we did against Germany. However France stakes a claim to Germany because of the similarities in culture between the nations, even the American administered zone is expected to eventually become a French territory. This will increase tensions between the alliances in the future; I know it. French culture may be in the land, but Russian blood has soaked into it for over 60 years! The land will be under direct red army control for at least a decade after this. Then we will divide it into Soviet Socialist Republics!”

Thanks Christos, it was a fun one to play too, although annoying to have to defeat the massive stacks germany had. I remeber at the begining of the story everyone wanted me to attack Germany, well there you have it. I even got Byzantion for all you Constaniople lovers. Italy should be fun. They Have the cities of Venice, Milan, Rome, Pompeii (Which i renamed Naples with WB) and Palermo. I Have to decide on which cities to keep/raze/gift and which to just leave alone (I will have to conquer Venice as it stands in the way of Rome, unless i detour around the alps)
