RFCEurope 1.0

I just saw this completed. Congratulations and thank you.

I wouldn't say complete
But you are right, 1.0 was a big milestone in the life of the mod :)
Thanks, on behalf of all the other modders too
Quite a few people contributed to RFCE through the ages

Time to re-install cIV.

;)

Hey guys, truly awesome mod!
Playing it for a few days now, without any bugs so far. The older version I had crashed very often somewhere after 1500 AD, but it seems to be fixed now.
I was wondering what is the idea behind The Round Church canceling diplomacy boost? What does it represent? There are few orthodoxal states at any given moment anyways, so in practice it often means no diplo boost between ortodoxals whatsoever.

It's the Round Church (Golden Church) of Preslav
Caused some tensions between orthodox nations when it was built in the 9-10th century
3Miro wanted to have the wonder with this bonuses ingame, and I don't mind it
This is from an earlier thread:
Why does the Round church have a negative effect of giving diplomatic penalties to civs with same religion? No other wonders have negative effects. I think it should be removed since you are at bad terms with everyone before the great schism. But also after...

Because it is historically accurate. The Round Church is a symbol of the political, religious, social and scholar changes brought by Boris (father) and Simeon (son). (think of this as the equivalent of the "free specialist" bonus of the Statue of Liberty).

Boris realized that a non-Christian Bulgaria cannot survive in Christian Europe, so he set forth to convert the country to Christianity. This had the double goal of securing peace with Byzantium and uniting the divided Bulgas and Slavs. At the same time, the Byzantines naturally jumped at the opportunity to extend as much political and cultural influence in Bulgaria as they can. However, Boris wouldn't have that and instead of accepting Greek as the official language, he accepted Slavic and started a huge campaign of translating religious and classical Greek texts into Slavic (philosophies of Plato and Socrates and so on). Hence the +10% science bonus.

Simeon went further than that, declaring himself Tsar (equal to the Byzantine Emperor) and making the Bulgarian archbishop Patriarch (equal to the Constantinople one). This lead to the bloodiest period in Byzantine-Bulgarian wars. Neither side has much of remorse in killing the other, hence the "no war with brother in faith" and "no diplo benefit".

Simeon's son enjoyed a long period of peace, however, as soon as he dies, Bulgaria was invaded by the other Orthodox nation: Kiev. Hence, you cannot have the Round Church and hope for peace and good relations with other Orthodox nations.

HHG:
Are you sure you want to start on adding all those lines to the XML files?
Code:
<German>
	<Text>Katholischer Missionar:Katholischen Missionars:Katholischen Missionar:Katholischen Missionar:Katholische Missionare:Katholischen Missionare:Katholischen Missionaren:Katholischen Missionare</Text>
	<Gender>male:male:male:male:male:male:male:male</Gender>
	<Plural>0:0:0:0:1:1:1:1</Plural>
</German>
I'm not against it at all if you want to do it
But it's a huge work, for a very small benefit

That's fine, for the files I sent you it's done, and this was the major part and for those types of replacement I use "cygwin - vim"

Thanks AbsinteRed, this makes sense. I have to add Simeon was victorious and was even proclaimed 'emperor of bulgars and greeks' at some point, with plans of capturing Constantinople before his death. Therefore, big shift in the balance of power between Bulgaria and Bizantium. So if the Round Church is symbol of power, maybe stability bonus instead of sciense bonus will make more sense? This also makes sense in context of caesaropapism.
Also, I'd like to suggest one more bulgarian World Wonder - Boyana Church http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boyana_Church
It could give sciense/culture boost instead of the Round Church, as it is seen by some as one of the first early-renaissance pieces of art. It could connect with the Faith Points Bulgarian goal, instead of making me produce 4-5 great prophets to gain FP.

+: We have few Orthodox wonders, and not that much early wonders. It would more or less fit the Bulgarian UHV as well
-: We already have more than enough churches as wonders, and have enough wonders generally in the mod

I'm not sure, it does tempting to add another directly orthodox wonder. Currently we only have 2...
Maybe if we can properly split (and expand) the bonuses of the Round Church?
Merijn, what do you say?

It can't be too bad to have many religious wonders in a medieval mod, just like in Sword of Islam. But if I have to choose between the Round Church and Boyana church, I prefer the second. It is way more famous, and it fits better the bulgarian UHV. As Bulgaria, the player conquers Constantinople and collapses Byzantium way too easy, for the Round Church to represent anything historical.
I agree there could be a little more orthodoxal or just eastern european wonders.

trying to think of non-church orthodox wonders. How about something about Cyril and Methodius? It could be their journey (like Magellan's is a wonder), or maybe the Preslav Literary School, where Wiki says Cyrillic was developed. Or it could just be Cyrillic itself? Or maybe Glagolitic would give one early bonus, and cyrillic another later one?

Have a little patience ;)
I already merged most of your translations into my WIP version
The XML changes will be up with the next update

Btw, you renamed TXT_KEY_VICTORY_HISTORICAL to Historien-Sieg
Sieg is victory, right? The word victory shouldn't be part of that text

For all other languages you are right, but I checked the vanilla Version and there all german translations have the extension "-Sieg", and btw. this is the only form which makes sense when looking on the resulting sentences

These are may vanilla victory texts
I didn't check the end sentences TBH
But I'm not sure why would it be different for historical victory

trying to think of non-church orthodox wonders.

This is a great idea! Only, I see them as a project, not a wonder.
I think it is a quite important event, that slavic languages in general became equal to hebrew, latin and greek, breaking the trilingual dogma. Such a project could give bonus to all orthodoxal civs. Maybe temples and monasteries give culture only after the Project is built? Before that, greek is used in churches, so no culture. Or maybe even: before the project is built, religious buildings generate german/byzantine/papal/... culture, to represent their influence through religion?

PS: Damn, the more I think about the last option, the cooler it sounds. Kind of like the American UP in RFC.

I'm having a lot of trouble getting the game to initially load. I know my main problem must be that I am using neither steam nor a disc, as I order Civ IV Complete from Amazon earlier today.

I extracted the files, following the example of those who use steam, to:
C:\Program Files\2K Games\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4 Complete\Beyond the Sword\Mods.

From there, I copied the worldbuilder save to Public Maps. It didn't work. Removed it from public maps. Still didn't work.

If anybody has any ideas of how to get this mod (one of the reasons I bought Civ IV again) to work, I would be sincerely grateful.

Thanks,
Zach

EDIT: Got it to work. I learned today not to assume that companies do things if they don't have to... like update their games even when they re-release them as a combined-expansion pack. O'well. Time to have some fun!

I know I've been hammering this subject again and again, but the Syrian trio of Tarsus, Antioch and Aleppo are still wrecking each other...

Would it unbalance if it was added, let's say, one food resource for each city?

EDIT #1: Also, is there any particular reason a pop-1 Cyrene (health surplus of 3-5) ALWAYS gets the plague?
EDIT #2: Belgrade is in province 'Hungary'?!

About Belgrade I'm quite curious to understand if this is a correction from Beta 13, a misplacement on 1.0, or an angry player who infiltrated on the making of the map and put his beloved Belgrade on Hungary, only to stop those pesky revolutionaries that keep wanting independence on Serbia (like those on Barcelona, Jerusalem, Oran, Tetouan, Syria)
