Rhye's of Civilization - the fastest loading mod Expanded - PART II

and I am a loser.

I just finished a very fun experience playing RocX on a random map. After playing the world map to the point of memorization (knowing exactly where to put each city and getting angry when the computer uses poor city placement management), I decided to give the random map a try.

First off, not knowing where ever resource was or would be was interesting. My strategy had to be different. Playing as Greece on Emperor, I succeeded in getting a great starting location with room to grow a full city ring around Athens.

After getting to a small tech lead (and first to Philosophy), I managed to build a small empire after conquering the neighboring fledgling Roman nation. During the early middle ages, I acquired 3 Scientific Leaders, which let me think about going for a single city culture victory! Scary to think that while building the Papal States, I was already thinking about victory conditions.

As the world entered the industrial age with my discovery of Industrialization, England plunged the world into war with me due to my reluctance to give them technology (why could they not have simply asked to trade). They convinced the rest of my neighbors to declare war on me, and it felt like it was me versus the world. Unfortunately for my powerful neighbors the Egyptians, I had a large tech lead, and a large army. While my Trench infantry were marching towards Thebes, protected by armored cars and artillery, the rest of the world proclaimed Athens the greatest of cultural cities thus ending my game in the 1920's.

All in all a great game!

So WE are losers...

Barak;

wow...that sounds like fun!

I too, greatly enjoy the random map. It most definately keeps Rhye's tremendous mod fresh.

I started a very interesting game as Austria yesterday and played for several hours yesterday (into the night, and I really needed to get up early today, which I did *yawn*) and many hours more today... I was playing tech broker/leader and part-time conqueror (when I was ready)... All seemed to be going well until out of the blue, some time in the 18th century, England declared war to grab Iceland or something (a colony I had recently received as a peace offering from the Dutch and had not yet put a guard in.) After she declared war, I dogpiled her just a bit. And then she dogpiled me, just a bit. All the American civs. America included. I decided to start a major world war with my unparalelled fortune (upwards of 11K gold and ~250GPT at that point, spent all the cash and half the flow) but only signed alliances against England, not wanting to get into a real conflict with her allies. Biiig mistake. Lincoln bought some of my major allies against me. Neighbors. And two turns into the conflict I got into a semi-planned war with Portugal. Took me a few turns to complete my control of Iberia, but now I'm under many threats, both immediate and not-so-immediate-yet-freakin-terrifying. I've had to do a bit of drafting to keep myself marginally secure until I can counterattack. I'm still world leader, and I can still pump out an army in 5 turns or a Hussar in two turns at Vienna. And Vienna's working on her Factory now. So I can probably handle this. And I can probably handle mobilization as well, if the need be. It won't be boring, that's for sure. :D

But Vienna it a industrial powerhouse under Austria! Yo can build the Iron Works in your capital and have 100+ Shield after the factory!!! Just pump up more Hussars and let the do the work.
The IW is already there. My workers are practically done setting the terrain up for max pop and production. Only problem is it's still at size 11 and it will take it a while to reach max capacity... But I probably will hit the one-turn Hussars one the factory is done... Just gotta make sure I get one-turn tanks eventually as well... This is gonna be a very close conflict... And if they get China against me as well, I'm dead. China's second place by score, and no real threat to my enemies (except for Persia.) However, if China decides to attack me, I will have to conentrate way too much on the eastern front and won't be able to do my main enemies enough damage to subdue them.
Then again, Communism is under a dozen turns away. Once I have Communal Corruption I may be able to put up a good fight on all fronts.
But then if they somehow get the Gracious Vikings against me, I really will be dead... My entire northern border is with them, and they're not a weak nation. By score they're just third place. But I think I've got them firmly on my side. :)

Communism is good for every front. I always try to get control of the Balkans and to conquest greece and byzantine/ottomans, and get as far to Babylon. And also try to be the tech leader, and getting the GL or Ecyclopedia is a must. I always wait until knigts to start any MC, mainly they upgrade to hussar, and those are to good to be true sometimes. And don't forget to have a port in the Adriatic, I always use it to create the Suez Canal, a good excuse to delete Israel out of the map (and if they build Mount Temple, much better)

I looked around the thread but didn't see this problem before.

I just created a military leader, but the options to turn him into an army or rush and improvement are not available. I have the "extra" buttons on.... but my leader doesn't do anything. I am playing the Random Map.

...help.

I haven't mobilized since Vanilla days, I think... Has anyone here mobilized for a big war in RoX? Any tips before I get into it? Does it pay off?
Also, the pedia says you need to sign a peace treaty to normalize, but I recall you have to end all your wars to do so. Which one is true?

If you have C3C leaders cannot rush imrovements only science leaders can do that.

Actually iirc military leaders can rush anything but great wonders (that is, they can rush small wonders) and scientific leaders can rush everything including GWs.

Thanks everyone, your responses cleared up a lot. I didn't have 4 cities yet, but why it wouldn't let me finish buildings, I don't know.

As for returning to normalization from mobilization, you just need to make peace with one civ, though you can still be at war with others, iirc.

Well, I kept playing earlier (had to stop like half an hour ago and I'm continuing shortly) and things are already resolving themselves... The English haven't done a thing against me in the entire war. I've already started bombarding their coasts a bit. America also did nothing and since I didn't sign any alliances against them (though I did try at one point) we managed to settle for peace almost for free (I gave him an old tech, he gave me a couple hundrer gold.) Along with America and right after them the other American civs signed with me, all agreeable to an unconditional treaty (although I snuck in a tad of old-tech trading while I was at it.) Now I just have to wait out my treaties against England and work on conquering the damn Ottomans and then the Persians. They're the only real risks now even though China has been dragged in against me as well... I don't think China will do anything... I'm gonna finish off the Ottomans and then either move on to Persia or perhaps turn back and take the British Isles. I may just take peace with whomever I first can of the two (without breaking treaties that is.)
I didn't even need to mobilize, and I don't think I will need to at all. Yay.

I'm a (-2.13,-6.77), what are you?

I've tried it, and I'm surprisingly much more moderate than i thought (-2, -1.08)
The fact is that between a lot of left or libertarian aswers, there are a small part at the very opposite side (in particular about immigration). So, the mean value identifies me as a moderate, but I don't feel it correct.

Well, I fought on and it's looking good... I got peace with England as soon as I could, and I just recently finished conquering all of the European and Middle Eastern Ottoman cities (and got me a rubber colony in Africa near his last two towns!) I'm now taking a couple Persian cities and I'll get peace with them soon enough. Foolishly, the tiny Greeks whom I doted upon for centuries to keep them fighting against my enemies got into an alliance against me with like the Maya or something so I'm cleaning their two towns up now. I signed peace with America and some other enemies a while back but some of them (America in particular) got into new alliances against me, but if I remember right I just have Persia and some minor (or major-but-harmless) enemies left... And really Persia can't hurt me now that I have Machinegunners... And I'll have flight in five turns from now... Since Persia and England have been crippled by their stupid war, I'm now the sole tech leader. :D

i just download this mod and so far its been great except it keeps crashing....i have restated it a couple of times but keeps crashing.....is there some place i can send the saved file so that the bug can be found?
