Rhye's of Civilization - the fastest loading mod Expanded - PART II

I haven't followed the Civ4 info closely (I try to never give in to hype) but it does seem the basic game has the kind of setup we have here, with defensive archers and all that. Do we owe that awesome change to you, Rhye? :)

Rhye deserves credit for many things, but as for "defensive archers", well, in Civ4 there will no longer be defensive/offensive strength, it will all be one value.

Don't resist the hype!:p

 did you see my photo too, or you just read my subtitle?

No I saw your photo, nice trophy (at least I'm assuming that's what it is). Also, I like how you have put Napolean in power instead of Jean. And I had better stop typing, programming logic teacher looking at me a little too frequently to be just casually looking around.

I remember I had always asked myself why there were offensive archers. Then somebody else mentioned it, saying that it was impossible to implement a swap with spearmen because it would mess up medieval balancement. Then I tried to do it, extending also to longbowman/crossbowman, pikeman, rifleman etc. I remember that was a very hot topic. We discussed about this many times.

Yeah I won that cup with my football team last June.

Let your mullet grow again! :crazyeye:

Yes, I brought that subject up based on this thread. When there was some agreement in the thread that such a swap may be a good idea, I tried briefly to do it but it got very confusing in the middle ages because I tried to completely retain the old lines. The RoX setup required us (i.e Rhye, with suggestions from the rest of us) to restructure the infantry lines, along with some major changes and additions, which led to more realistic/logical lines and to more realistic/logical stats. I think the only place where we really ended up making a weird decision that doesn't completely make sense is with the gap between, iirc, Pikemen and Riflemen, along with where the Fusilier and Musketman are. But the lines are still generally coherent and history is mimicked rather well by the mod with these changes, so it's all good. :D

i had never seen that thread
I'm rather certain I've linked to it on a couple of occasions before, but now's as good a time as ever to read one of the best general modding threads one can find.

You know when i first saw this mods first tread i thought it was a mod made by a guy named Søren Ryge (He makes garden programs in the tv), so thought "Oh god no not here! God save me not a garden mod, noooooooooooooooo" then i cliked the back button and shutted down my internet for 3 days, and then came to that decition that it could not be made by Søren Ryge since hes an old guy and properly dont know that theres something called a "computer". So I looked at the tread and found out that it was the best mod on the forum..lol.

By the way, Rhye, congratulations with getting 158 pages long tread with your mod (It will properly be 200 before the year exits).

I don't know, but, I have the latest version of Conquests, 1.22, I install the mod, but there is no biq file
It tells me to go to civ content and choose Rhye's of Civilization or something like that but there is no such scenario... help me?
I downloaded full version..

And the patches?

Else i got no clue:confused: , works fine for me by the way.

well, I downloaded the 9 parts in zip and unzipped them and then it worked fine, the full install didn't seem to even install the files.. because when I looked there there was nothing new... weird..

Ken, are you sure you pointed the installer to the right directory? (It seems to be a common mistake to point it to the wrong place, however I can't seem to recall what wrong place people keep selecting.)

well it told me to set the main Civilization 3 directory so I set it to
C:\Program\Infogrames interactive\Civilization III
maybe I should of set it to \Conquests?

Well, I really liked some parts of this mod, but I found other parts very disappointing.
Pros: 1. All the great unit graphics 2.Historically accurate tech screen 3. leaderhead choices
Cons: 1. upgrade paths - Why cant fusiliers upgrade to rifleman?, Many of the wonder produced units cant upgrade either
2. I played regent, on the world map with all the civs, and the game ended before anyone but two civs had reached the modern age, the majority of the civs had not even made it to the third age yet! I downloaded this mod because one of its big selling points was that it tried to project a historically accurate timeline. What a joke! Again, it can't just be my game, because i played with all the settings the mod was meant to be played on - regent, the world map that came with the mod, and all the civs. This was so disappointing it erased all the pros for me.
