@homer, corrections:

*samurai, tercio, and swiss mercenary all upgrade into fusilier, not musketman (apologies to rhye, he had already done what i suggested - it was the spreadsheet that was wrong)

*partisan upgrades to shifta (i note you did not add all 4 flavours of some units, which is probably why it's not listed correctly - the listing in the sheet is from the first incidence of partisan which upgrades through each of the other flavours of partisan before coming to shifta)

*shifta upgrades to guerilla, not machinegunner

@rhye: what do you think about upgrading cavalry/cossack into modern paratrooper? that is actually how the 7th cavalry evolved for the US, from custer's day to viet nam (great book by the colonel called "we were soldiers once, and young" that details the evolution of cavalry to "air cavalry")

new version of the spreadsheet below (note that additional sheets with original information have been hidden, if you are looking for them), with the organisation i described earlier. enjoy

EW

@Enkidu_Warrior -- Sorry about the upgrade mistakes. All i had to work off of was the .bic file and they weren't always correct (due to flavour units -- I know that a Spearman doesn't upgrade to a Spearman ), so a guess was made :)
I had the Units organized by Era (that's what the lines were for) without labeling the Eras. I probably should have. I like the idea of classification by upgrades though. I like the changes to the Civs and Units tabs!!!!
Nice

@Rhye -- unfortunately I can't access the Pedia since i don't yet have conquest to run the mod (unless there is a way to view without it). "Santa" will let me see in a couple of days

Rhye, when do you plan to put out the next/final patch?

Today I came across unexpected problems - I found that the American horse archer attack anim is completely wrong. I spent some time looking for a solution, then I surrended and assigned the east asian animation to them.
I've added also new anim for middle eastern lancer and horse archer, african horse archer and euro worker.
The patch will be called 1.2, as the list of the changes got wider.
As this chapter is over, and I've found satisfying tech settings for random maps I can now come back to tuning the Earth biq.
If everything's allright, I can post it tomorrow morning.
Otherwise, well, I'll slip to the morning of Xmas or the 26th.

Is there any plans to break the basic mod up into parts (like the ex-pack) so those of us still living with dial-up can download it in pieces? (other wise I'll have to let it download about 8 hours straight, and with my job I need the phone line free)

(Sorry if this has been asked on one of the 260 pages of this thread, as I did not check them all)

Ooooo, its editing time.

I found stuff in my guide, the Incan guide, and the FAQ!

Alright, here it goes:

England Guide
In this sentence "After securing all of your home islands, try building a city somewhere on the Scandinavian Peninsula if possible, because it makes and excellent starting "
The "and" should be changed to "an".

In the paragraph after, coal needs a comma after it.

Incan Guide
Just one thing, this sentence "Just a glance to history: today Argentina and Brazil are the tow big one in the continent - so go and settle today's North Argentina and South Brasil. I assume should read "Just a glance to history: today Argentina and Brazil are the two big ones in the continent - so go and settle today's North Argentina and South Brasil."

Even with those changes it still reads kinda funny and might need further revision to get its point across.

FAQ
The first thing is correct, but I think the answer about Immortals sounds better if it says "Many units' stats have been changed in this mod."

The sentence "Why haven't I a worker at the beginning?" should be changed to "Why don't I have a worker at the beginning?"

The sentence "Certain civs offer an harder challenge ..." should be changed to "Certain civs offer a harder challenge ..."

I would change this sentence so it goes from this: "The mod is balanced to fit perfectly Emperor level on the Earth map, but many factors may alter the accuracy" to this: "The mod is balanced to fit perfectly on Emperor level and the Earth map, but many factors may alter the accuracy".

And this sentence: "This is a consequence of the fact that uprisings were removed to increase loading times" might confuse a few people who thought that the goal was to decrease loading times. :crazyeye:

Great job Rhye, this FAQ should clear up many things to new players. :goodjob:

I have a proposal for the next patch. I think that the Americans should be Expansionist instead of Scientific. My main argument for this is an idea known as Turner's Frontier Thesis. Read the second half of this page http://www.bgsu.edu/departments/acs/1890s/turner/turner.html to get an idea of it.
The gist of it is that American development until 1890 (when the existence of a static 'frontier' ceased) was affected most greatly by the rapid expansion westward of the country. It asserts that most of the modern and historical American midsets, culture, and institutions owe themselves to this expansion and its implications on the country.

And didn't one of the original civ3's have America as expansionist also?

Giving America cheaper settlers would give them an advantage over the Iroqois for settling the west as happened historically.

well, most of the civs have 3 possible traits. Like Spain being Exp, Portugal Com, England Com (now that's excluded), Dutch Agr, etc.
America is surely exp, and it is surely industrious and scientific.
But there are already too many exp civs, which will use that trait to colonize. I don't think expansionist fits the late exploit of the Americans

They were removed to DECREASE loading times!
Err, his point was that it currently says "increase". =X

Isn't "haven't I GOT"?
Could be either way.
"Why don't I have?" is the same as "Why haven't I got?", but I think the former is better and perhaps more correct.

Isn't "have got" more correct in true British English than "do have"?
I dunno about true British English, but "Why don't I have...?" sounds right to me in this case and "Why haven't I got...?" doesn't sound quite as right.

Yeah, "Why haven't I got" just sounds wrong to me, but it will work. It does have more a British flare.

And if you really want to right in "True British English" then you'll have some more revisions to make where you could do things like that.

Works out either way. :)

I always try to speak and write British English, but in this case except some words that are in the game (the harbour is "harbor" in civ).

Is there anything else in the readme or in the site that's strictly American? (I'll change it.)

I couldn't get the FAQ to appear, so I can't give it the fine tooth comb treatment. But I can tell you that "why don't I have..." is a bit better than "why haven't I got..." The latter is what you might call British colloquial. Americans won't use it, but it doesn't follow that it's more correct in standard (ie non-US) English. In fact, "I've got" tends to be used more in the north of England, whilst "I have" is more southern - just as "it's not" would be more northern whilst "it isn't" is more southern. Personally I tend to use the northern contractions, but they are a bit colloquial. Not wrong, though.
