Thanks Ace Dragoon, that did work, however Austria still crashes my system. UGH. I am using Windows 98 on a 5 year old laptop, could that be part of the problem? I know I am not the only one getting "Invalid Page Fault" errors, as I have seen it on other boards, I just can never find any solutions. It doesn't help when the board is 223 pages long, hard to find stuff on those. Oh well, I will just have to keep Austria, Israel and Ethiopia out of the game (which sucks) and hope for the best.

Thanks again,
J

Hey there,
I've never palyed this mod, but usually "invalid page fault" indicates that your system isn't powerful enough (at the moment of the crash). How much memory do you have (also processor and HD space?)? Can you increase the page file? Try and shutdown every thing else running that you don't need. Check your HD for errors and then defrag. Hope this helps!!!

Firstly I apoligise if I am talking nonsense, but I'm having troubles with the pedia again.

Ok... it says I need mustangs to build the SoL. I click on the mustangs link, and it leads me to something which looks like the horses entry, but is actually about a resource that comes with military tradition, even though the text says it comes with the wheel. It appears to have the same icon as horses.

Don't get what I mean? Go to the Statue of Liberty entry and try for yourself...

Looking around in other places I see no referances to mustangs... anywhere. So, it would appear, that to be able to build the statue of liberty I need a resource which doesn't exist...

Eh?

Enkidu, your guide is very good. Before putting it in the site, can you improve it in 2 or 3 points?

-Add a little paragraphs about rushes. Close starting locations are an invite to make a rush, but I tried to make it as difficult as possible, with AI having guards and the player not having the worker. And even if the player is successful, the city that produced settlers may fall behind in growth.

-Some consideration about the units could be useful. Like: what's better: the junk->caravel->galleon path, or the galley->galleass->frigate path? Or what's better: producing mass all-purpose units like spearmen, pikemen, etc. or combined armies of archers and attackers? Sincerly I don't know the answer to this; I leave it to more experienced players.

-I would cut something in the very intro, as it quotes something already said. The guide could start from the "The readme files of both....." paragraph.

I'll post it in the site as soon as I have your update. Thank you! :)

thanks. it was fun to slack off work for yesterday, but i'm gonna pay for it

okay, changes:

* the intro's been pared down
* i've added a paragraph to the world size section cautioning about early rushes
* i've referenced upgrade paths in the civilopedia section - considering aeon and blas's mixed experiences, this may be a matter of style, so it's probably just better to raise players' awareness rather than tell them what to do
* i've also added a concluding paragraph that is (hopefully) a natural transition to the civ-specific guides all y'all are workin on. ;)

new version below. aeon, did your edits have anything else to add/change?

thanks
EW

Also I would like to add that in the expansion pack random map... player starting positions are sometimes placed on top of terrain that cannot be settled (mountains, forrest, etc) and sometimes even so that the settle cannot move (surrouded by mountains, forrests, etc. Have only tested this in the map generator though

Mustangs are american horses. Check near the Mississippi for them. They must be in the city radius for you to be able to build it.

Had a massive post answering all questions, and accidentally backed up a page (my mouse has bonus buttons...)

EW, I completely prettied up your old readme thing, but it turns out that I opened it instead of saving it to my desktop... and when I saved it did not actually save... so all my work is lost... and many of the things I changed are still like they were before... so I am really demoralized in this matter.

@Superisis: The religions do not change per se... consider it an addition to the religion. It is not like India stops being Hindu, its just that it also becomes Muslim (and since it was ruled by the Mughal empire for about 300 some years and since Muslims are such a major minority group in it today...) is a fair assumption.

Also, the F stands for flavor units... take a quick peek inside and you will understand.

@Bucfan: I had typed up a nice little checklist for you, but it was lost and I am too demoralized to retype it.

Also, recall that concise means short, not simple. What they have been giving you is very concise, and were you to continue with your demands it would probably become quite terse, if not downright laconic. Please remember that you are typing to real people and try to be a bit more polite.

@Three Crowns: It STILL doesnt upgrade? What about the Dreadnoughts? Do you have access to rubber? ...err that wont matter if you are playing as America... but for all other Marines you do require rubber...

Talk about a bad roll of teh dice. I am playing as the Iroqouis. It is 1150 BC, and I am trying to destroy Washington with a stack of 6 Spearmen. I cannot defeat a single palace guard. I have even reloaded several times. Can't do it. And of course I won't be able to get any iron until Washington is taken. Were the guards supposed to be this tough?

Oh, and FYI this is my second attempt at RoX, and I noticed that load times are much longer than in RoC or when playing RoX as the English (first time through)

Spearmen's attack is 2 and Palace Guard's defense is 2, of course you're going to have a hard time. Try attacking with swordmen or something else, maybe bombard them with catapults.

As for load times, I don't really notice much a difference, must be your comp is an older model?

...figure I have nothing else to do while playing the game, so I might as well run tech support as well as I can ;p

And read the news...

and do homework...

and use AIM...

and...

;p

Also, I found out something cool. If your screen's resolution is greater than that required to play civ, you can preview a 3D screen saver and the game will show up as a smaller part of your main screen... which means that you can do everything you normally could on your desktop without having to alt-tab the game! It saves us lazy people about two minutes per turn haha

bummer, aeon. you might still find it in your temp folder, or internet temp, if you have a hunt around. of course, this is located in different places depending on your OS, so...

with the newer version up, i'd be happy for you to have another go at it. as we start to append the civ-specific advice, someone will need to be keeper... :scan: :p

Rhye:

I tried to PM you but you have exceeded your quota. You very popular person you. ;)

I just checked and I must not have an updated PediaIcons.txt. The only one I have is not in the Rhye....X folder, but in the regular one, and that does not have units like PRTO_Galley34, and all of your civ-specific units. These are the units that will not show up on the teaser. Your installer for the X-Pack didnt make a new pediaicons. Please check that before I go further.

Dreadnoughts does not upgrade either. I have rubber regardless and every other strategic resource except uranium.

Anyone been able to complete the tech tree?

I'm in the last 20 turns of the game, the Japanese empire covers the home islands, Korea, parts of China, Indoneasa, the Philipeans, the North Western tip of Austrailia...

And I'm only in the mid industrial age :(

I threw myself all over the major resource producing areas ('cept horses... I have none) but I'm only going to need Ur in about 200 years time -.-

For bucfan, who was having trouble installing:

I just downloaded and installed this mod and the expansion pack for the first time yesterday. Indeed, it is the first mod I have ever installed! I can't be 100% sure that I've done everything correctly, because I only played about 70 turns in, but here's how it ended up:

I put the contents of the RoC_v265 folder inside the Scenarios folder. Thus I dragged the "Rhye's of Civilization" folder and the file "Rhye's of Civilzation v.2.65.biq" to the Scenarios folder.

Then, look at part 1 of the expansion pack. It is a folder called "Rhye's of Civilization X." I put this folder in the Scenarios folder as well.

Then, look at part 2 of the expansion pack. It is also a folder called "Rhye's of Civilization X." If you drag this folder into the Scenarios folder, Windows should automatically combine its contents with the stuff already in the "Rhye's of Civilization X" folder. Just click "Yes to All" when Windows asks you if you want to replace files.

Repeat for each part of the expansion pack. In the end, you will have added the following to your Scenarios folder: folders called "Rhye's of Civilization," "Rhye's of Civilization X," and "Rhye's of Civilization XF," along with Rhye's of Civilzation v.2.65.biq and the random map biq.

You have asked for an explanation that both (1) assumes you don't know anything, and is (2) concise. I hope you see why that is impossible. I hope this discussion of what I did is helpful.

Someone else mentioned that this is an attack 2 versus a defense 2 battle. Also, the palace guards are fortified in a town, which provides a defense bonus, and that town has a palace, which also provides a defense bonus.

I just played a few dozen turns of this mod for the first time last night, and I am quite confused about the combat - it's going to take some getting used to. With the extra hit points, no bonus against barbarians, and other tweaks, my intuitions about my chances in each battle were completely broken. As a result, I got slaughtered - I didn't win a single fight that I took on (offensive or defensive). I've never been the best war tactician to begin with, so this mod is going to be a real challenge for me.

Combat difficulties:

Read the stats of the units and try to bring sufficient artillery support: catapults are your FRIENDS!

...well, they are when you have like ten of them!

Palace guards have bonus hp, so you will not be able to take them out with anything less than an A of three if they are fortified in a palace because the palace grants a 1/3 defense bonus (if I am reading the editor right). So expect them to be tough adversaries! In general, you will need artillery in most cases, so just build lots of it and you will be fine.

Problems for Rhye to deal with:

-inability of non-Euro civs to really get into the modern era (specifically American Civs, but true of Asian civs sometimes)
-Dreadnoughts not upgrading
-Issues with Marines (I was able to build them/upgrade to them, but it appears that some people cannot)

I have noticed every problem you mentioned. I'm fixing them and you'll have the patch probably tomorrow.

Well, I can't do much about non-euro civs inability. With a fixed map and 31 civs, somebody will be left behind anyway. Even Euro civs, if they lose a war and are reduced to 1-2 cities.

In my game (Germany, beta) America has built the statue of liberty (a while back) and I can't recall if I helped them along with tech. Now, anyways, I have to sell them every tech that I buy or sell anyone else, since if I don't they'll get it for free and I will gain nothing from them. America is now a rising superpower, and now that they are at war with the west-coast Mayans, I expect them to assume a very active role soon. There's still another century or so left in the game so they will have their chance to shine.
Late-industrial to early-modern war is an absolute blast. Seeing as I can now produce two Panzers every turn (one in my capital, and one in the province of Hungary where I have the IW+Factory+Nuclear Plant and produce a whooping 199spt) I have stopped producing Trench Infantry and instead build alot of Machinegunners (very soon to become TOW Inf). I also produce quite a few Zeppelins which are incredibly useful. I have conquered already two towns by simply bombarding them and then marching in to claim them.
Russia was once a mjor power, but now with the rest of Europe bugging them, and me actively claiming their lands, they are going down. I expect to own half of what was once Russia within a few turns (my troops take a while to get to the cities but my Zeppelins don't have such a problem. ;))

Zeppelin, useless?! No way! I had enough to conquer a city before anyone else even had a single bomber.
And very soon I will be able to upgrade them all to Heavy Bombers and REALLY wreak havoc.
