@Rhye: I should be finally done with my Germany beta game in a few days, and then I will play on the new patch and comment on it. Can you please make a special "patch" for those of us who are in the ROX1 SG so we can patch up to 1.2 and still see the proper tech tree in the SG?
Also I just noticed that the name "Wall Street" should be changed to something more generic, like say "Central Stock Exchange". =X

->Backup your \advisors\science_middle.pcx, then apply the patch. When you play the SG, restore the old pcx.

->Yes Wall Street should be changed and will be changed. By me, if something bad comes out that need another patch. Or by you if some of you keep working.

SoL rocks. i like the new tech tree changes, with the exception of physics coming out of humanism. my understanding of the history of scientific development is that much of modern physics was born out of the studies of magnetism and astronomy, and had less to do with the humanities and more to do with the pursuit of knowledge for knowledge's sake. as such, i'd change it to requiring astronomy.

i just finished a game as arabs, and they definitely didnt have it as easy as before. it was also nice to see egypt make an effort to the west, so whatever changes were taken there appear to have made an impact.

one other comment: i noticed that i couldnt trade communication at the end, and the biq says that this is set to begin with electricity. i dont recall it being so late in the earlier versions of ROC/ROCX, but this seems insanely late. it's bad enough maps cant be traded with map making, but trading contacts should be possible with embassies - ie with writing

So, you just begun a game with 1.2 and already finished?

Physics had to move to give the upper branch more usefulness. Astronomy was probably better, but Humanism is OK anyway, and I couldn't have both the prerequisites unless crossing the arrows.
I had to change another thing for gameplay that lost a little accuracy: metallurgy requires only alchemy; siegecraft allows alchemy only. Earlier it made more sense, but trebuchets were too much short-lived because cannons were adjacent.

Late communication trading is a major tweak for loading reduction. I must keep it there, unless you want to drown in popups :) Believe me, with 31 civs they can slow down a lot. Instead in this way a world war will explode only after electricity, so just in time for matching the real WWs.

That's just slang, a corruption of "isn't" (it looks like it should be short for "ai not" but of course there's not such word). There's nothing American about it. It's a rather old-fashioned schoolboy sort of word. William says it a lot in the Richmal Crompton stories. Or you'll find it in the Beano in years gone by.

Where are you from, Plotinus?
Northern English, right?

I'd have a LOT of questions to ask about english dialects, that nobody ever was able to satisfy.
I have an American (my friend's cousin) here these days, but he wasn't able to answer anything I asked. All I learned is that he say "Trano" instead of "Toronto" and "ghello" instead of "ghetto".

So, may I ask you some more questions about dialects?

Posted "No Byzantines" version. I did not test it, but it should be OK.
You can be about 500% sure that I'll test it once Germany has won (probably by cultural victory or spaceship.)

I've decided to rename the biqs "Expanded" instead of "Expansion Pack".

The readme instead still refers to the "Expansion Pack".

I've made a readme called Expanded, that contains the two readmes in one, and that will be shipped with the installer.

Of course you can! Although I don't know if this is the thread to do it in. I'm from Kent but spent some of my formative years near Manchester, so I managed to avoid picking up either accent, which I consider a very good thing. I don't really know much about regional dialects although I do know quite a bit about US/standard English differences. But feel free to ask away...

yep, the whole game only took about 5 hours to play, and that included a break for dinner and a movie. by not exploring very much, my contacts were fairly limited, and by not pursuing war or colonisation, gameplay was extremely streamlined. i only had to manage 8 cities, and many turns well into the game involved nothing. period. just hit space bar to continue!

i like the siegecraft change, and i understand the reasoning on writing (fits the scenario if not reality ;) ).

i dont feel the top branch of the middle ages tree is useless, though. as a builder going for cultural win, it was the first branch i hit: education and free artistry being key. in fact, playing the build game, i felt that whole lower branch was a waste ;) - not that it really is, rather just illustrating how different the perspectives can be when you are playing different strategies...! :)

i suppose you could move the arrow that leads from education to magnetism and instead make it lead to alchemy... again, not perfect, but makes more sense to me than humanism to physics.

perhaps it's just a sad fact that humanism and free artistry just dont lead to any developments! :mischief:

where, please? is it in the v1.2 patch download?

Hello, it's my first post here, on CivFanatics.
Could you help me? I've downloaded Expanded ver.1.1. (parts 1,2 3 and 5). I needed only part 4 (RoCX_v11_part4.zip). I've downloaded a half of this file, but for now this link is broken. Where can I find this file? I can download a version 1.2, but it'll be very hard for my modem :). It may take a week or something like this...
Thank you.

Well, my curiosity about accents is endless...

->For example, can you tell me what accent's the one that Jimmy Rotten (Sex Pistols singer) shows? "Anarkeya in the Ukeya" he says. I know he's from London, but it does seem more similar to Liam Gallagher pronunciation...

->How do you spell Manchester? Is it true that people there say Manchèster (with the accent on the first "e")? I've been there and in Liverpool last year and I remember that I heard it.

->Being italian, I can hardly distinguish various English accents. I always wondered how does an Irish, a Scottish, an American, a Canadian or an Australian sounds to an English, and vice-versa.
I heard that Irish accent is very beautiful, is it true?
(Instead, I guess Scottish is very ugly. In fact, Italian version of the Simpsons, a Sardinian dubs Willy.)

i have the expansion pack random map v 1.01 and for some reason, cities that i conquered from other civs do not make any culture. I would have a temple in those cities and it says my city is making 2 culture points per turn but it the culture bar never increases. Can you tell me what is wrong rhye?

You're using a government that requires at least half of the citizens of a city to be of your nationality before the city can gain culture. I'm guessing the gov't you're using is Theocratic Monarchy.

Dear all

I had some problems with the RoCX latest version.
At some point, the game just hangs up and doesn´t work no more,
without any error message.

First time was in a game playing the Spanish, it broke down 350bc. The same occurred the next game playing as the English in 550bc.

Has anybody encountered similar problems?

What I have done is that I have added one more building that comes with invention, and 6 units in the industrial era, so both shouldn´t have an effect since they come much later in game.

Pls help and advice, thanks!

Loco
