He passed away on October 22nd suffering from Cancer. Russel Charles Means was an Oglala Sioux from the Pine River Reservation who was an activist for Native American and libertarian causes. He was a leader in the American Indian Movement (AIM), and was involved in the occupations of Alcatraz (1969) and Wounded Knee (1973). He also was a writer and painter and occasional movie actor (Last of the Mohicans).
