RIP Russel Means

He passed away on October 22nd suffering from Cancer. Russel Charles Means was an Oglala Sioux from the Pine River Reservation who was an activist for Native American and libertarian causes. He was a leader in the American Indian Movement (AIM), and was involved in the occupations of Alcatraz (1969) and Wounded Knee (1973). He also was a writer and painter and occasional movie actor (Last of the Mohicans).

Belated best wishes. I admit to not knowing as much about him as I should. Very strange, that two such influential men from South Dakota (McGovern and Means) would die within days of each other.

As a Republican and a conservative, I naturally disagreed with the politics of both men. But their integrity and courage must be respected and their life accomplishments must be honored.
