[R&F] Rise and Fall General Discussion Thread

...and Sean Bean, mangling them all nicely.

Dear Firaxis, next time just hire the generic voiced woman, not a star, to do the voicework.

And for the love of god nobody with any kind of accent. I'm a native english speaker and his mangling makes my ears bleed. I can't imagine what the folks that aren't native english speakers go through.

I first thought of the Inca for next week, but then I thought they wouldn't do the American continent twice in a row. So, I think it will be the Ottomans as others have said. I believe they will leave us guessing until the very last moment possible with the Inca and Georgia.

I can't wait for a livestream featuring Chandragupta and Poundmaker.

One being a real Indian and another being an error made by Columbus.
One wonders if the US might get a leader that is an Indianan (from Indiana).

Thus a person of the land of the people of not India.

Are there any Presidents born in Indiana? I know quite a lot were born in its neighbor, Ohio. I can come up with anyone from Indiana though.

We have two (east) Asian, one Native American and one European Civs + one leader of India (another Asia). There is surely place for a small kingdom from Central Europe :p

By the way, hoping for the Ottoman Empire or Inca Empire.

Bavaria is part of Germany, and should stay that way. :p I wouldn't mind something like Bohemia or Hungary, but please no Bavaria.

Benjamin Harrison. I had to look it up. William Henry Harrison wasn't from there, but he referenced his victory in Tippecanoe, Indiana in a campaign slogan.

Did Benjamin Harrison do anything noteworthy? I can't remember what he did.

I believe he was the one who was preceded and succeeded by the same man (Cleveland). Though I believe he was born in Ohio, but lived much of his life in Indiana and served as the Governor of Indiana. Turns out he lost the Governor's race, but served as Senator.

I know almost nothing about any of the Harrison presidents, only the fact that one of them died a month after he became a president :P

Yeah, that one had an "interesting" relationship with the Native Americans. I'm glad he caught pneumonia and died. :p That's for giving your inaugural speech in the rain.

Arguably, he/his cabinet (James Blaine as an influential Secretary of State) were the real start of American foreign policy switching to an explicitly imperial/"interventionist" agenda.

Other than that... massacred some Native Americans. I believe his administration saw my place of residence become a state. Took no particular position on the "hot issues" of the day which were mostly about... currency and tariffs. A rather generic late-nineteenth century Republican president domestically, down to the full beard.

Any news about a livestream this week?

:(

Why no Ottomans?
I’m descendant of Greek refugees of Smyrna fleeing Ottoman genocide. My great grandfather was enlisted in the Ottoman army at the time & suffered gunshot wounds fleeing with his brothers. Never had much of a taste for them. In fact any game I have with the Ottomans I go into Cyrus mode. I think a Hellenic Anatolia would be refreshing. Byzantium has too much Roman influence IMO.. plus if Lydia is in, it’d fit an existing wonder, a new resource .. Alexander & Cyrus have historical connections with Lydia... among other reasons.

A person from Indiana is called a Hoosier btw
