[R&F] Rise and Fall General Discussion Thread

...and Sean Bean, mangling them all nicely.

Dear Firaxis, next time just hire the generic voiced woman, not a star, to do the voicework.

And for the love of god nobody with any kind of accent. I'm a native english speaker and his mangling makes my ears bleed. I can't imagine what the folks that aren't native english speakers go through.
Sean Bean's mispronunciations could be chalked up to lack of proper directing, it's not intrinsically his fault unless he refuses to do any retakes. Everybody has an accent so that's an odd request. The woman from the First Look videos doesn't really have a great voice due to the notable 'vocal fry' (I think that's what it's called). She serves the purpose of First Looks but I wouldn't have her do the in-game narration.

Speaking of voice acting, Seondeok has a voiced dialogue at the trading screen in the Cree video. I haven't watched the streams but is this new? I doubt they went and got all the actors back to record new trading dialogue so I'm not sure what to make of that.

It's probably the same as the leaders moving around in their Player screen. It's something Firaxis can do, but not us. :p

It could be a bug, playing the "first meeting" animation during trading or something.

Which R&F leader has the best design so far?

Chandragupta and Poundmaker are tied for me.
For me, it's Genghis Khan, Chandragupta Maurya or Poundmaker. Genghis gets some point down for moving like a robot, but he also gets points up for being more fearsome than Genghis from Civ V and having a voice actor with deeper voice now. Oh, and for his Industrial/Atomic theme from the First Look :P

Perhaps if Carthage, Toronto or Lisbon get replaced in Rise & Fall (or possible post-R&F expansion packs in the case of Lisbon) we might see Munich as a Bavarian city-state?

And as for wonders; how many do we know about so far out of the 7 we were informed we were getting?
- Delicate Arch (NA)
- Mt Roraima (SA)
- Matterhorn (Europe)
- Richart Structure (Africa)
- Zhangye Danzia (Asia)
- [one of many] "Pink Lake" (Oceania?)
- [still unknown] "Red Tundra Forest" (Antarctica??)

I count 7 natural wonders! So we know what they all look like now!

I think the Pink Lake will always been unknown until it's actually named; as there are so many of them (A link to the "10 best pink lakes" http://traveleering.com/10-best-pink-lakes-world/ ) mostly pointing to Oz again.

If Oz gets the Pink Lake natural wonder; it would mean that 6 out of the 7 continents get a natural wonder; leaving just that Red Tundra forest... is there any slim possibility that the 7th natural wonder goes to the final 7th continent or Antarctica?

EDIT: It's a shame "Blood Falls" isn't a natural wonder in place of this red tundra forest; as it would confirm that each of the 7 natural wonders comes from the 7 continents of the world!

The "Red Forest" doesn't look like something in Antarctica. I'm pretty sure that continent lacks trees. :p

I don't remember who, but I know some others here have expressed hope for Bulgaria at some point.

I don't know if I've ever mentioned including them, but they've always been on my list of long-shot civs (Nubia is the only one included so far). In the Rhyes and Fall of Civilization Mod-Mod about Europe, Bulgaria was one of my go-to plays. I just don't see them as likely outside of a scenario.

Once again, I am putting in a pitch for Lake Baikal. It is definitely worthy of being a Natural Wonder. With around 22% of the whole World’s fresh water and being the deepest lake in the World and probably the oldest lake in the world, let alone fresh water seals in the middle of the continent, it is time that they honoured the “Natural Lake” as they call it in Buryat.

It is even known as the “Galapagos of Russia.” So, it should impart a science bonus.

Hoping it will make the cut for Rise and Fall. They definitely need more arctic, subarctic and tundra wonders. This would fit the bill.

Thank you for sharing this. Amazing! Wouldn’t be interesting that in the game it actually showed progressively freezing and thus showing turquoise ice?

Agreed. That would be amazing!

It looks remarkable! Especially the blue ice! But it does look like we have seen all 7 new natural wonders.

Perhaps they are saving the “Pearl of Russia” for a DLC or another expansion, then.

It’s a shame as it is a perfect Natural Wonder.

I need to have my bad sport moment because I am so enamored with Portugal & I need to voice my disappointment the devs would include every country touched by Portugal except Portugal.

What's up with the apathetic appreciation of Portugal?
Brazil wouldn't exist without Portugal. (It would be something completely different)
Britain got its African possessions & India from Portugal.
Holland got control of Indonesia from Portugal.
Knowing this, I'm going to suspect we may see Mali & a sultanate of East Africa considering the pattern. :undecide: I'm totally okay with having a much needed subsaharan civ, just a bigger snub to Portugal. As the first "global" superpower it's pretty shocking Portugal gets kicked back as often as it does.

They have to hold something back for the next expansion.

Poundmaker looks younger than in the pictures, but there's an undeniable resemblance, and he's not some annoying caricature like plasticine Pedro II, so I approve. Leaders more in the animation style of Cyrus are always welcome.

If there were a rematch for the Leader Depiction Elimination Game, Poundmaker would be among the top five, along with Chandragupta and Cyrus.

It's very hard to find a leader who looks worse than Alexander.

Gandhi and Alexander, also known as Troll Face and Melted Ken Doll, are certainly in a class all their own.

Did anyone realize the quote for Early Empire seems to foretell the releasing of "Rise and Fall"

Civics Completed
Early Empire

"Look back over the past, with its changing empires that rose and fell, and you can foresee the future, too." - Marcus Aurelius
