[R&F] Rise and Fall General Discussion Thread

It seems to me that every screenshot shows 2 wonders and a natural wonder on purpose. If the caravanserai is one of the new tile improvements (making traders safe in adjacent tiles and giving more gold if they pass through for example), then what is the 2nd wonder? Santa Monica Pier?
i don't think it's a theme for the screenshots... at least I hope it's not, i onestly don't like the theme park as a wonder because it looks completely generic, yet the persian looking building would be the only wonder that doesn't look "fancy" if you know what i mean, it looks like a very generic building aswell, could be everything in the middle east or central asia

So, just got around to the news - and frankly I‘m disapointed. All the features seem to add more micromanagement to the game. Making the game more of a story seems like a good idea, because that‘s the main take away of a civ match for the non-micromanagers (everyone not on this forum?). But it needs to be accompanied with making the game more playable: Better UI with more information, more reliable automations, less clicks needed to do x, and so on. I applaud the ‚history path‘ with its explicit intention to get the player right back into a game. Because that‘s one thing I always experience, abandoning a game after having played it once.

For an improvement, it looks very... specific with the harbour and stuff.

They would not pack stuff like that into the first announcement, that's something for a following blog.

I wonder if they'll do first looks on changed civs as well - it sure isn't as thrilling as new civs to the general public. But I'd welcome a nice and short video explaining what changes for Spain, America and Kongo (random civs chosen here).

And I hope Aspyr manages to catch up a bit. I was surprised and very happy that they had civ VI and the first patches out for mac and linux within 2 weeks. Sadly, Nubia took over a month and we are still waiting on the fall patch. This may have to do with cross platform, but I can see Firaxis/Aspyr letting that one wait once again and say it will come with the expansion...

Golden/Dark/Heroic Age -- Korea maybe, or Italy
Loyalty/Culture Flip -- Ghana under Kwame Nkrumah, a prominent African leader during decolonization
Governors -- Possibly Ottomans or Dutch (Ottomans for nearby, Dutch for overseas)
Alliances -- Could see France retooled.
Emergencies -- I don't think we'll see one focused on this tbh, as it's more of a reaction than a proactive policy.

You've got a good angle here. I would add in Expansion since they've explicitly said they want to show off expansive civs. Mongolia, Turkey, and the Dutch would all fit the bill.

Started a new thread for speculating on civs and leaders btw, here it is: https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/what-civs-leaders-do-you-expect-to-see-in-rise-fall.624907/

I think that we may see a return to an Italy for the loyalty something to reflect the collection of city-state idea, I could see this being their very unique styled civ similar to Venice from our last go around.

Depending on the type of emergencies we could see quite a few, I could see a retooled France here in their response to the WW, maybe some Crusades-based civs/leaders for holy city emergencies these bonuses would have to be paired with some weaker more 'normal' actions, like a single city gets converted small bonus when an emergency holy city falls huge bonus, that kinda thing.

The average person where I live (over 260 million people) know the Dutch instantly, know little to nothing on the Celts
onestly as far as fame goes they are pretty much equal, you of course can maybe be biased as indonesia was a dutch colony, i from europe, see the celts as an important classical civilisation and the dutch as an important modern trading and colonial powerhouse

The new mechanics add more stuff but that does not automatically equate to more micro. It depends on how the mechanics are implemented.

Considering that the new mechanics will require new UI, I am sure there will be lots of UI improvements as well. But that would not go in an expansion announcement which is for the "big news" that will attract new buyers. That is why expansion announcements focus on flashy new mechanics.

This is my point exactly. It is subjective based on your upbringing

If the new mechanics are implemented correctly, this expansion may very well be the biggest change to the civ franchise ever. Up to now, every civ game has basically been linear. If you play the early game right, you basically know if you will win or not by the mid game. With these changes, we may actually get a more open ended game where the leader in the early game is not the final winner. This will be a huge change to the civ game.

I know both Dutch and Celts well. Celts, in fact, occupied the lands of Bohemia. Actually, the name "Bohemia" comes from Roman name "Boiohaemum" which meant "Land of Boii". Boii were Celtic tribe that occupied Bohemia.
And about the Netherlands - it was a very important country in a world history.

However, I'm going to sleep now.

Right now i have smaller goals, like hoping that the civs I join with on the "Emergency" liberation missions don't hate me for being a warmonger ;)

Kidding aside, I can't help but be excited about this announcement.

Cultural loyalty is a good addition and may mean the death of forward settling, as nobody could forward settle easily in civ 4 randomly without losing a city.

It will certainly not be missed,

I think we will see the return of Wu Zetian.
That would be a shame. I like her, and while Qin was an extremely safe choice China doesn't top the list of civs that need new leaders. India, Egypt, and France definitely take priority there.
