[R&F] Rise and Fall General Discussion Thread

My understanding is that the people are Maya and the language is Mayan, by convention. There are about seven million Maya today, if anyone wants to reach out to them and ask if that's true.
I have seen "Maya languages" and "Mayan people" even in scholarly contexts, though, so I don't think it's a hard rule. See for example the Yucatec Maya (no n) language.

My understanding is the convention is one of specialist anthropologists while other scholars tend to be much more sloppy or simply unaware of it. I'll have to track down the /r/AskHistorians post on it.

Sounds like it may be one of those ad hoc conventions used by certain fields (or authors) to avoid confusion in a particular text, since again the Yucatec Maya language contradicts that convention. NB Mesoamerican languages and studies aren't my specialty, despite a certain interest in Yucatec Maya specifically; I'm just speculating here.

We are getting off-topic here. :p I know the Maya are a possible Civ in Rise and Fall though. :D Firaxis can't resist those bad*** Mayan Queens.

It would be interesting if Lady Xoc were to show up in Civ VI. However, the various age classification boards would force the art team to tone down the Xoc value.
You're getting your money's worth out of that pun. :p

I must have so much fun being with all of you CivFanatics!

Oh, and 59 more days to go (according to Baltimore time)!

@Kimiimaro You can still post the countdown as well (according to the timer you use). You are such a great person to have here.

Do we already have some speculations about the benefits of the government disrict?

My guess would be that it increases loyality of nearby cities (6 tile radius) and gets one of each respective yield of the adjacent distrincts (e.g. +1 culture if adjacent to theatre square). Additionally you'll receive a free gouvernor once.

And I think there should be a big reduction of loyality in all of a civ's cities, if their city with the government district gets conquered. That would to simulate that empires often lose stabilty (even capitulate) when the capital/government is lost.

I don't know about the district itself, but the buildings that are associated with government types will unlock policies.

Pardon my ignorance on this issue.. I'm gay, I never have to think of breasts in ANY fashion but even in the images I've seen of her, there are none where her breasts sag THAT low. It may be a Dutch custom I'm unaware of, and I indeed mean no offense by this statement. Am I the only one who noticed that?

I never noticed that.

Yes, it does look rather unrealistic, even for women who both don't wear any lingerie and have oversized breasts.

It really doesn't look unrealistic, and it happens to a lot of women. Personally, I think if you compare the two pictures shown here it's quite spot on. As a matter of fact, the digital Wilhelmina is a bit younger looking, and her breasts are a bit higher than on the real photo of her. So, I'd say, they nailed her bewbs : P

I can totally see her saying "Would you like to visit our nearby city and tiptoe through the tulips with me?" during the first meeting screen.

I wonder what horrible food she will send with her delegates.

Stamppot, probably. Basically, you throw potatoes, carrots, some vegetables and maybe some other stuff like minced meat together, you mash it, cook it, and done. It's a great meal and you'll not be hungry for quite some time after.
