[R&F] Rise and Fall General Discussion Thread

People wail on about how Carthage is not part of Africa or how they are European.
I would argue Carthage is neither. They are from the ancient Middle East.
I don't mind the Zulu either. But on the other hand it's not Mali.

Its not the Zulus that are particularly a problem.

It is the Zulus before more worldly civs like Ghana/Mali/Songhai, Ethiopia/Axum, and Swahili/Kilwa.

Well, I guess the Zulus are otherworldly then, by your logic. ;)

I for one am happy with Zulu. They aren’t as insignificant as people make them and Shaka basically broke the military mold in warfare within the region.

They’re musics gonna rock. They’re city names are making a return.

My only problem is all the warmongers we have, at least Alexander can go scientific, Chandragupta and Tomyris can go religion, Cyrus can go culture. Having one 100% domination civ is enough, I hope they manage the Zulu with at least some other dynamic they can go in. But how could they? Making culture? I don’t know, Kublai would’ve been able to at least go culture.

I always thought of the Zulus as a 2nd Expansion Civ, not a 1st. I'm not familiar enough with Civ3 and Civ4 to know if that was the case.

As long as other African Civs (Ethiopia and Mali especially) are getting added to Civ6 eventually, I wouldn't mind the Zulus being added in R&F. Just adding the Zulus and considering Africa to be well-represented in Civs (thus not needing anymore) would make me upset. :(

They were in Civ III vanilla and Civ VI Warlords.

Thinking about it... Both Scotland and Zulu are still relatively ok picks. We could still recieve something worse, like Celtic blob and Soviet Civ led by Stalin :p

I... Must... Not... Be... A... Grammar... Nazi...

Sorry about that, I just something like to nitpick and annoy people with little things :p Even if I'm not native English speaker, just a 16 years old Czech person still learning English. I also make mistakes :)

Moderator Action: As we have so many people that are not native English speakers, nitpicking is not allowed and can be considered trolling. leif

I guess it's only me then, that there is only song that comes to my head every time I meet him in game.

I never laughed so much! My imagination is always so vivid I just can't help but picturing playing this in the background as Shaka and his Zulu army walks into battle conquering everyone with ease. The "You're in love with me" just seems to perfect for Shaka in accordance with this forum's opinion of him.

Always good to double Czech. :goodjob:
I had to.

So certain people cannot confirm if they are streaming R & F next week, most likely because of NDA's, so take that information as you will.

I'm surprised the general opinion on the Zulu's music is positive. I disliked their theme in V. It seemed corny. OooOOOoooh Shaka! OOOOoooOOOh Shaa-aa-kaaa!

That theme was composed by Michael Curran, who is not working for Firaxis anymore. So maybe Geoff Knorr or Roland Rizzo composed a Zulu theme more to you liking? ;)

Agreed. I really didn't like it either.

Unfortunately my knowledge of Zulu culture begins and ends with a certain movie of the same name and the only piece of music I can recall from that is Men of Harlech which wouldn't really be appropriate :crazyeye: :mischief:

Does a diplomatic victory not have a clear gameplay spot? A World Congress would give us a good reason to cultivate good relationships with other Civs. It would gives us something to do late game other than steam rolling cities or clicking Next Turn while waiting for tourism or research buckets to fill. It could open the door for new and interesting unique and leader abilities. And it would give peaceful players a means of dealing with problematic Civs (I'm looking at you, Pedro) without resorting to waging war against an AI that's ill equipped to fight back. A diplomatic victory, in my humble opinion, is exactly what this game needs in the next expansion.

I agree, given that domination is a bit overpowered in 6, a diplomatic victory would give players and AI an incentive to maintain peaceful relationships.

However, I also agree that the diplo victory in 5 was donkey doodoo, so I wouldn't want them to include one unless they implemented it with more thought.

I'm with Mr Jon of Cheam on this.
What I would like to see in a diplomatic victory is several world bodies to be contested over (say the World Trade Organisation, Interpol, or the International Olympic Committee) alongside the U.N. Dominance in each would achieved in a different way which would be thematic with it's role in the world; which in turn would confer some advantages (ideally small)...and you'd need to dominate two out of the three organisations to achieve a diplomatic victory.

I don't have anything against the portrayal of the Civ itself, but William Wallace would work better as a Great General. At least make the leader Robert the Bruce, an actual king of Scotland, and he would still probably have the same agenda and ability that William Wallace would.
I mean he's replacing Boudicca as the nominal Celtic leader, so he's keeping the tradition alive ;)

I keep asking myself why everybody presumes it's William Wallace who will lead Scotland.
Brave Heart which is the clue that the Chinese Translator/Fact Checker dropped was the nickname for Robert the Bruce not William Wallace, even if the movie makes you think so.
As his job was to check the Chinese translation of the original English text I guess Firaxis would have the facts straight in the Civilopedia (I hope).

"The most notable fact of all is that the name “Brave Heart” actually refers to Robert the Bruce and not William Wallace. After his death, Robert’s heart was literally carried into battle, giving birth to the nickname."

Interesting, I had no idea.
