Valeria was the great power that started the world war, and has ceased to exist. Now, years later, survivors of the war have decided to resurrect Valeria. Present-day Valeria is small and weak, lacking enough food to feed all it's citizens or such luxuries as plumbing on it's backwards islands. Despite it's weakness, Valeria's ruling class, the Hanz family, possesses great cunning and covets the power of old Valeria.
Valeria is a land of contrasts. Despite having great untapped oil and other natural resources, the land and sea is poor for food gathering.

Dirt rained down on the trenches, the distant boom of Red artillery resonating through the mud-drenched trenches. Soldiers fell, skin ruptured, organs showing, into the waterlogged trench floor. Bullets zipped by, bouncing off the tops of trenches or into soldier’s dull, metal helmets. It had rained the day before, leaving the fields south of Wehrmacht City a quagmire of blood and tears. Red Teutonic Knights approached, swiftly, across the field, ducking and falling into the mud to protect themselves from Imperial munitions. Daniel Kartz, brother of a Royal Guard member, swore as yet another of his men collapsed onto the rotten trench supports. “Hold the line, men! The Fifth will arrive soon!” Daniel shouted to what was left of his squadron, which had been decimated in the already drawn-out slugfest. A terrified corporal was in the fetal position, crying into his filth-and-blood drenched uniform. Daniel merely spit at the corporal, not bothering to stop for the coward. Another artillery shell rained down on the trench, blasting into the ground, thirty feet in front of Daniel. It exploded in the mud, blasting apart that segment of the trench and causing a large pool of water to come cascading down the wall. Daniel kept running through, wading through the ever-deepening pool that was beginning to flood the rest of the trench. Up ahead, a small group of Reds had gotten into the trench and were slaughtering Imperial infantry. He grabbed his rifle, which had been slung over his back, and took aim at the merciless Red Knights. Popping off a handful of shots, he starting sprinting towards the soldiers, in the process tripping over a trench support. He groaned, grabbing his knee – it was shattered in the fall, slamming off against a large sticking-out rock. He dragged himself onto a trench support, looking behind him at the sound of footsteps sploshing through the trench.
“You’re dead, Imperial scum,” snarled a Red Knight. And over the din around him, he heard a distinct cry. “The City has fallen,” wailed the distant voice, “The Emperor has been killed!”
Additional info - The Wehrmacht Empire is now the Union of Soviet German Republics (USGR). The new leader is Chief Premiere Vladimir Tyarski. The economy is changed to a command economy; we're Communists. Yes, I am basing this strongly off the Bolshevik Revolution/USSR.
