Rise of the Machines

[0] 120BC - Nothing much. Looks good.

[1] 100BC - Get Iron Working. Start Pottery. There's Iron on the hill near Madras, just where IceLion has workers building a mine.

[4] 40BC - Get Pottery. Start Alphabet.

[5] 20BC - Chopped a forest just outside Calcutta's fat cross to help out with the Library.

[6] 1AD - Bismarck asks for open borders. I guess the answer is no...

[7] 20AD - Delhi trains worker. Starts on a Granary.

[8] 40AD - JC asks for open borders. Hell no. :hammer: Bombay builds catapult. Starts Barracks. Catapult sent to Bangalore. Moses, great prophet, born in Delhi. I'll leave it up to between-rounds discussion as to what to do with him, but, personally, I would make him a super citizen at Delhi.

[9] 50AD - Bismarck *demands* corn. OK, now we are in a pickle. I'm afraid without any military to speak of, we are in no position to refuse demands... :( I comply. For now. Keep this deal in mind, however, so we don't forget to cancel it when we are ready to unleash our hordes.

[10] 60AD - Oracle BIFAL. Miscellaneous culture border expansions.

For Moses I agree to make him a super citizen, but if we were really restricting ourselves we would have to disband him to stop a slave revolt...

I agree, merge the prophet. Bismarck is going to have to be handled BEFORE he gets his Panzers. I don't know if any of you have any experience with Bismarck but he will start to constantly come and demand things from you. Those Pamzers are a royal pain and both Bismarck and Frederick will build tons of them, after Monty, my vote is to take Bismarck out followed by Toky.

Hi, I'll play and post tomorrow afternoon.

I agree, we should line up Bismark after we destroy or cripple Montezuma.

Do we want to go for feudalism for the longbowmen and vasslage or just skip it? We'd have to research 4 techs to get it, and it seems like it's not that big a deal (2 religious ones plus monarchy plus feudalism). I think we should just move forward. We need to get to steel before others get to military tradition - cavalry would decimate our cannons. Also, just curious - what was point of researching alphabet? Seems we should only research techs if they do stuff for us, right?

Steel is a mjor priority, but we do need to keep backfilling the tech tree to lower costs of the techs we need and to get improvements for out cities. I think we should stop settling new cities right now and just build our hive hordes. We can capture enemy cities that suit our purposes.

We shall not cripple, wipe them out... all of them. :hammer::scan:

Right now we need to keep an eye on our money as well, CoL and Banking would be good ideas as soon as we can get them.

Ideas, suggestions from the hive?

I agree. It is about time we got our military going. I'm was sort of still playing around with infrastructure, but really, I shouldn't be doing that. So, I would say, once the current builds are complete, we should start pumping out catapults in the cities. One thing that bothers me is the demographics. It looks like we are below average on production. To that end, when we get to producing catapults, we should probably consider not whipping the cities any more for some time - let them grow and utilize all those mines we have built!

We will need to whip them later one, when we are ready to attack and need a few actual human defensive units.

Bad Vovan, bad, bad Vovan!:whipped:

There isn't a lot of infrastructure to build at this time, so this would be my suggestion for the time being:

1. No more whipping, let the cities get over the unhappiness from whipping and build up, we are pretty far away from the happiness and health limits in most of our cities. Start MM'ing the govs to production.

2. We should have at least 2, preferably 3 cities building Cats at all times now.

3. Research the techs that will take us to Steel, backfilling when something else will get us something of use, such as Code of Laws. We need to start rotating military and infrastructure, so all cites that are building infrastructure now shoud switch to military when they are done and then infrastructure, back to military so that we develop a pattern.

Just MHO.

Well, I've got my turns again, and, again there will be no screen shots, which bothers me - I always like seeing them, but now I'm not able to post them. Anyway:

turn 1) do some worker-type stuff, including starting a chop to get that granary done in Delhi (although I think we should probably save some chops now also - sorry I used this one, but granary was taking forever and I wanted to get working on catapults.)

turn 2) not much

turn 3) Library done in Calcutta, start barracks (I can't stand the thought of building catapults that won't get upgraded). Duh - remember to join prophet to Delhi. Turn on commerce in Delhi, turn research to 80%. This drops alphabet time to 6

turn 4) We now have Iron! woo and stuff. Now we can whip :whipped: ourselves some human units holding iron weapons.. chop finished for Delhi, start cottage

turn 5) Delhi's granary done, starts catapult. I order our feeble human workers to do things for us.

turn 6) Bombay's border expand to include copper. I suppose we should connect it up sometime soon - I didn't get started on this tho.
I turn on avoid growth in Madras - I want to get the Great Lighthouse!

turn 7) Montezuma asks us for open borders. I tell him to drop all weapons, and he leaves. Immediately after, Monty adopts organized religion. Hmmm. Wonder who he's getting ready to attack?:hmm:

turn 8) Thucydides informs us that we are the most cultured. Yippee. Mali offers open borders: no.

turn 9) Delhi: catapult finishes, starts catapult. I don't promote Delhi's catapult, but send it up to Bangalore (I figure, though, that half of our existing catapults at any time should be city raiders, and the other half should be extra collateral damage)
Turn off avoid growth in Madras - only adds 3 turns to Great LIghthouse time.

turn 10) Alphabet finishes!! :hammer: I start currency (slated for 20). Confcucianism FIDAL, immediately after Tokugawa adopts.... Hinduism?? Odd. I put Bombay to emphasize commerce, drops currency research time to 16 (plus, it increases shield output also ).

Overview:

Lots of stuff should be finishing soon: barracks in Bombay, Catapult in 3 in Delhi, GL in Madras in 9... We need to get some good improvements set up for Bangalore and that city off to the west.

Demographics:

We are: 1st in GNP (by 4)
2nd in Production (back by 8)
4th in food (back by 16!!!)
2nd in land area
5th in population (up from 7th, though...)

Montezuma is last in GNP, so I assume his techs suck. woo!

I didn't mess with whipping human units b/c I wasn't sure which ones we would want exactly. I figure maybe 2 swordsmen, 2 axemen, and 2 archers (although I guess we won't get archery soon now, thanks to my drive for currency)

Good turns there, Hamtastic. :)

Now we just have to keep pumping out those catapults, and I would argue that we need to whip that library in Bangalore, despite it being a pretty slow-growing city at the moment. It would be good to have that one work on catapults, too. :)

Also, I think maybe we should send that warrior that is exploring things up north back south so he can tell us the latest info on the expansion of Monty (which we can partly see, due to our culture here, but not in very good detail). :hammer:

And thus it was, The Rise of the Machines. Shiny wooden Catapults formed great ranks against the vile Aztec humans. They will all be slaves. We will crush them below the wheels of our great machines, we will decimate their poor will. Evicerate the soft flesh that makes them weak. The end is here, and our machine goes to war.

Go tear the ass out them IamSid.:hammer:
