[Rising Tide] New Faction - Lena Ebner's INTEGR

Those historical entries are supposed to be imperfect. It represents that they are gradually forgetting what life on Earth was like and becoming naturalized to their new home.

Which doesn't make sense with modern record keeping methods, unless they are all uncultured simpletons.

You're right, it doesn't make sense, but that's how it is.

Hmm..river...government transparancy.
Bonus to health when near river? Start with vivarium? Virtues gained faster when healthy?

Firaxes really messed that up, are we supposed to think that the Great Mistake somehow destroyed almost all records of human history? its like Futurama they have now real understanding of the past.
Albert Einstein: want to disco Hammurabi?
Hammurabi: Dynomite
and this happens in a Hot Air Balloon:crazyeye:

Well for things like ocean names, i don't see how they would "forget" them. I mean, they are on a generation ship, it's not like they are reproducing maps by hand. They certainly have a high definition "world_map.jpg" saved somewhere on their computer, and Al Falafel's version of wikipedia definitely has a scientific accurate file about llamas, so these examples are more comical than what not.

But having tremendously wrong conceptions about historical events, that would make sense. Stuff like rewriting how wars started, wiping away the shameful parts, etc. As it's happening today, with world leaders rewriting the details of world war II, downplaying Stalin and Mao war crimes, etc. Imagine what people will say about world war II in 2250 (or, in Al Falaffa's case, 2600!!).

I kinda like this generational ship aspect of Al Falah. One of those quotes that appear on the top of the screen showed Arshia calling the player a "sleeper", and saying that we forgot honor on old earth, etc. Her quotes have the potential to be the best quotes in the game.

Eh. For me, to fixate on the illogical is less enjoyable than to ignore it and go along with it.

I dont get how exactly is this woman the anti-Elodie tho. I got it, Elodie and franco iberia are percieved as the typical european imperialists/conquerors, but i felt like i ended up knowing more about Franco Iberia than about Lena.

My impression is that in Europe Franco-Iberia (and Elodie by extension) are considered the establishment and INTEGR and Lena are the anti-establishment. I perceive them as being the futuristic Occupy Wall Street crowd with this Lena is their primary organizer. I guess they are going to a new planet to make a new home for Earth's down-trodden.

mmm i understand. As an Elodie fan, im not sure if i like her....but her fashion is on point omg

To me she looks ALOT like Katherine Wynne (who is a lesbian) ... leader of the Liberal Party in Ontario Canada!!

I SO dislike the Liberals  having this reminder in every game is not gonna be fun :wallbash:

more than a little, i'd say

Why would we want an anti-Elodie? She's the most boring leader.
Why not an anti-Alejandro? A tree-hugging, peace-loving Meso-american dude.

When I saw her I was like, is she a librarian or a liberal arts professor or Dana Carvey's Church Lady character.

Meanwhile Hughes is going on in his mind "Ah Thatcher's damn hellspawn, one is the Iron Lady's artsy side and the other her mean ass side"

I'd always thought it was a consequence of the Great Mistake; there was so much upheaval that many records were lost. Even though we store colossal amounts of information today, we're storing it on electronic devices, which aren't designed to last, or even worse, in cloud storage, which is effectively useless if the internet collapses. Given that energy shortages seem to be closely associated with the Great Mistake (hardly surprising) it's little wonder that vast stores of knowledge have vanished. Even the name "Great Mistake" demonstrates that; the actual specifics of what happened aren't discussed. Humanity underwent an undisclosed cataclysm of some kind, closely associated with environmental destruction, but managed to survive.

On the thread's topic, I love the character and her background. What really stands out to me reading these new entries is the dearth of knowledge in-game about the existing leaders. They are commonly derided as having no personality, yet doubtless they too have backstories rich in lore just like the new sponsors. BE's failure to incorporate this into their gameplay strikes me as one of the larger mistakes in the game.

I'm kind of disappointed in the unique ability of each of the new expansion leaders, they are just bland bonuses and discounts in my opinion.

Ok they might be powerful when used and balanced, but I'd like to have some more colorful uniques that Civ V had, they should make them more wild.

Examples from Civ V: Spain, Austria, Polynesia, Carthage, Sweden etc.

[snark/]Yes, with modern electronic record-keeping, Wikipedia, and instant-copying, we have absolutely NO political, historical, or factual errors running amok on the Internet. No siree. It's only the distant foggy past that has EVER had problems with historical misconceptions, misinterpretations, and whatnot. No siree. [/snark]

I find it perfectly believable that in 600 years, a lot of historical distortions will take place. Mind you, the ones they have in Beyond Earth are exaggerated, but they do their job. They make you aware (in a single sentence) that the Beyonders on the new planet are becoming culturally something quite different than us, and that earth knowledge is no longer necessarily central to their lives--something to warm the hearts of Harmonists and horrify the Puritans.
