Rod1- Something Enjoyable

I've got it but haven't had much time to get caught up.

Looks like we lose an Army on the IBT near Sugar Choke, it has only 2 HPs left.

Sun Tzu's in 4, good, we need that.

Two resources (Iron and Saltpeter) but still no Luxuries, a real killer.

I would like to build north to get the Furs that are north of the ruins of Carthage-town. I think I can get us started, but I don't expect to finish in 10 turns.

Need to clear out the western irritants, but that may have to wait a bit.

Well, that is just what I saw on a quick look see. I'll do a more detailed analysis later.

I covered the Army with Defensive units, Pray that it Survives or Retreats

A Friendly :bump:

Myth01 took longer to play that I had planned; my playing time was cut short since Grandma decided she wanted to sleep in the bedroom where this PC is located. And she thinks that 8pm is bedtime! (Well, she is 87.)

I plan to get to the game today.

Must move PC. Grandma is very important and needs her sleep, but Civ3 is important too:) J/K, family has to come first.

Normally she sleeps downstairs, but we were gone last weekend and now she wants to sleep up here. My wife says it is just a phase and will soon pass. I can only hope.

There is another PC in the house, but I like having a PC to myself that I don't have to share. Plus, the issue of keeping the saves in-synch.

Lurker:

Thumb nail drive works great on keeping saves up to date. As to interfering with my game, that is where I draw the line. :D

Per MapStat, Fish in the Desert is about to riot.
Hmm?
Fish in the Desert (4) makes 5 red shields and 3 blue ones and is producing wealth? That doesn't make sense just now.
Cycle through the cities.

Hire a geek in Champion City for one turn, market still in 1.
Work the sugar in Sugar Choke, not the hill; grow in 13.
Switch tiles around in Spamalot, grows in 4, settler in 5. Previously it was grow in 5, settler in 3.
Fire the geek in Morning Mood by Grieg, works a hill, trebuchet -> courthouse in 16. This city has 6 red and 4 blue shields per turn.
Fire the geek in ICS Style, Berserk in 6, not 7.
Wild Wild West, at size 3 makes 5 red and 3 blue shields; wealth -> courthouse in 27.
Lake Havasu vMusket -> courthouse in 17 (4 red/3 blue).
Denver is another size 3 city making 5 red and 3 blue; wealth -> courthouse in 27.
Change the market to library in Monster Hill, at size 2 and zero growth a market is not needed. Library in 4.
At Fish in the Desert wealth -> courthouse in 40, since I hired a geek to keep the city happy.
Start a courthouse in Desert Support.

Now I remember that we are in our Golden Age and the production numbers are high.
In Wild Wild West we start a settler. Lake Havasu goes back to a Musket build. Like Wild Wild West, Denver starts a settler. So does Fish in the Desert and Desert Support.

Would like to abandon Sacred Cow, but if the city goes away so does the galley inside. Next turn it will vanish.

Hit Enter.

We are attacked 3 times but win all three engagements (3 of 3).

*MaceOne* and Inwaaer.
We don't have any small Wonders to build, so Inwaaer moves towards St Regis but stops outside the city. I forgot that Sugar Choke is on a hill.

Down south the Army of Pikes kills off an Indian Settler pair, but goes down to 5/14 taking out a Spear. The two slaves we split apart and send in two different directions, so that the Indian Maces close by will capture them and not attack us.
We win all 4 battles during our part of this turn (13 of 14).

Sugar Choke Area
T1050_SugarChokeArea.jpg

This is a good defensive area, but we need to grow out of that. And I think we can.

First, Carthage and Iroquois are gassed. Maya is still sending in units by threes and fours and is a real pain.

We have several Armies in the area, 1st Muskets (3 Muskets), 2nd Beserks (3 Beserks), Inwaaer I (2 Beserks) and Hubba I (empty).

Now that we don't have to worry about the south continent, we can focus all our energy on exapnding out from Sugar Choke.

The closest luxury is up north near Rusicade and is Furs. Even one fur would be great help with happiness.

We have settlers headed towards Sugar Choke, one that will arrive next turn.

The Iroquois have a settler pair in place. I saw the Spear and forgot about the settler on the last turn, when I concentrated on pillaging the roads outside of Sugar Choke's borders. If they do build a city we will destroy it. We need our own cities in the area, too.

I think we need a city at the Green Dot. Since it would be connected to the existing road network we would expect the Mayans to attack it instead of Sugar Choke. Fine, we move all the trebuchets out of Sugar Choke into Green Dot (about 12 of them, I think) and redline them before they attack. We should be able to hold onto this city and expand northwards.

As far as grand strategy, I think we need a line of cites that will split Carthage in half; these cities would be almost in a straight line running North of Sugar Choke. That would probably have to be done before we get the Furs. In fact, we might discover another Luxury closer and easier to get to. In either case, our next big goal is to get a Luxury to help with happiness and production. Speacialists don't build Beserks, normal folks do. This line of cities is just a first step. If we divide Carthage we can attack both parts at the same time.

Beyond cleaving Carthage in two and claiming Furs, I don't see anything too clearly. Doing that will be tough enough, since Numidan Mercanaries are very difficult to kill in straight-up combat. We'll need rock-throwers and Armies to make the odds more in our favor. Maya will send multiple units our way every turn. Iroquois will send 1 every turn or so.

Other Stuff
I am bringing our boats closer to home and using them as spies along the coast of Maya.

Hubba I is headed for St. Regis. We should fill up Inwaaer I before we fill up Hubba I.

Once Metallurgy arrives we can upgrade our rock throwers to cannons.

The Iroquois city of Caugnawaga, on our west coast, I think we should ignore for a while. Maybe the volcano will rid us of that Purple Pest City.

We have 36 cities and 21 workers and a lot of land to improve. Some settler builds could be changed to workers.

Overseer is UP!

Overall, some good progress and some great luck with leaders, With so Many Berserk Armies, Carthage is Doomed, and so are the Iroq ( I think they dont have the saltpeter)

I'm so up it's crazy. Hawk, Rat and this one. I might be able to do this toward the end of the week. Hopefully the others go well and fast.

Lurker:

What would you think of the idea of having research Chiv to build the KT? You can't build knights, but you could let it build crusaders.

The other question was Bach's. Normally I would not even have the tech, but you had no luxs and did not even know where there were any (on your land) at the time you were talking about abandoning the game.

When I thought you were going to not finish, I went ahead and played it out. One of the ideas I used was to switch the HE build for the KT. I figured a leader would be coming along to build the HE.

Bach's would pay back by allowing slider reductions for the rest of the game. I knew they would not be able to keep up in research, you could afford to give up the time.

Its not like racing to MT will give you cavs or anything, just better armies. So you could wait a bit longer for that.

Good points vmxa. Crusaders are good attackers, especially in armies, and JS Bachs is a handy happy boster. I'd consider building both.

:bump:

Need a Skip?

About halfway through. Will finish today.

Here it is. Hopefully the breakout can continue. I'd like to load the empty army with Muskets which will allow the other Musket army to guard the Berserk army so it can go burn some Iroquois and Maya cities, we need to disrupt their economy, cut off some enemy resources, and slow their ability to hurt us. Here is the turnlog and save:

Good work! Coba and Cadiz captured and three built cities, plus a lot of dead AI units.

Just one question. Why learn Military Tradition if we can't build fast units? Force of habit? (It would be for me, anyway, just to get the horse soliders into play.)

Good Turns there, and the Armies seem to be flowing in.

I think Overseer wanted to get the military academy for armies? Not that we need it. I would have researched astronomy or Navigation to get the shipping power
