Role Play Challenge: Pollution Bull

A bit of an off topic question: what happens if you lose the Pyramids city while you are in Police State and don't have Fascism yet? Is it an automatic civic change? To what? And is there a revolution or not?

Despotism. Even if you have monarchy. No anarchy though...

Take out the worst current and future threat = Shaka. Napoleon can either be contained or befriended while you are dealing with Shaka.

Aggreed.
It looks like Napo's land really sucks, so I don't consider him a threat. At least not yet.

Nice work with Monti, btw :goodjob:

Everyone is breathing a sigh of relief with Monty gone. Too bad there wasn't a different Holy City to grab - I find that at times Monty is befriendable and can make a great attack dog and in the greater scheme of things I'm more worried about Shaka.

Keep in mind here that Shaka has horses. Still a good target even if just to hamstring him for later, and perhaps Nappy can build some wonders and stuff while that's going on. In the mean time, I'd try to get some missionaries to Nappy and Pacal to be sure you can buddy up quick. By the way, where is Pacal on the map in relation to everyone else? I'm worried that Pacal may be an even bigger long-term threat while he financially techs while everyone else has stand-offs.

Pollution Bull: Part III

Well with such crazy neighbors I had to smack myself in the head to prevent automatically building graneries. "Mad, remember it's an RPC!"

Right, but we have a religion and some pwoer, no problem keeping the peace, right! Right???

First of all, everyone's favorite RPC killer decided to start settling towards our SW.

BullC0000.jpg

I had my sights on that copper too. So a fast choice here, do I delay going after Shaka and let him have the copper, or use our Dog Army and attack!

I opted to wait a little bit.

Which worked out well as I relaly needed those Dogs.

First because of this

BullC0001.jpg

Easy, we simply stationed all our Dogs on a hill south of the capital and let the BArbarian Axes rip into them. Got a few nicely pronoted Dogs out of it.

We also settled our next city

BullC0002.jpg

Before I go any further, the techpath: Meditation/Priesthood/Iron Working/Horse Back Riding. Yeah, we are a bit concerned about the neighbors.

Especially, SInce Shaka is settling much more to the south, getting close borders AND doing a nice job of cutting us off.

BullC0003.jpg

At this time Napolean adopted Buddhism, great we may have an allie there soon.

After Iron Working we find

BullC0004.jpg

Unless I am missing something, that's the lone iron source unless Shaka has some hidden. Luckily right now it's in our sphere of influence.

Oh yes, about that future Allie

BullC0005.jpg

Gotta love the little general.

But that's OK, we got these great Dog Doldiers to defend us, right?

BullC0006.jpg

Except Napoelan has no metals himself, and has the HBR tech! Unfortunately, Shaka stole that Copper so w have no spears and have to rely on our protective archers.

After a long seige of suicidal HAs and chariots we defeat the assault losing some archers and Dogs. I gotta say the protective trait with teh Native Americam UB may have saved the RPC here! Shaka stayed at cautious so we could not bribe him to help us(nor do I rely want to after past RPCs).

We got this random event

BullC0007.jpg

Which gave us +1 diplo point and also Shaka adopted Buddism. Still, he stayed at cautious because of the close borders!

We did manage to push out another settler while defending against Napolean, which we settled

BullC0008.jpg

Iron is on the river, so all we need is the mine to get access.

At this point

BullC0009.jpg

Sorry folks, I am not interested in launching a full scale invasion of France with Shaka at my doorstep.

All during this time I used workers to build cottages (hell, I will take the commerce right now) and chop all forrests. Still as always I can certainly use more.

We opened borders with Napoelan pretty quick as he has a +5 diplo favorable rating based on the religion, and used our remaining Dogs to take out a Barb city.

BullC0010.jpg

BullC0011.jpg

Which cut's Shaka off from the North and NW area. We need to take that one Barb city to finishing laying out our turf. There is also a neat little spot directly east of the capital for a few cottaged tiles and some rice.

That Barb city to the NW

BullC0012.jpg

Is on a hill, so I will likely get a few swords. Also we did get a Great General from the French war which I settled in Monty's former capital. It's as protected as I can get, on a coast (for naval promotions), with ample forrests/production to get started early.

To look at the military advisor

BullC0013.jpg

We certainly aint got many friends here, do we.

And finally a map of the world.

BullC0014.jpg

So where do we go from here???

1) Civics: we are in slavery and have used it quite a bit.
2) We should have the Buddhist shrine in 18 turns, I whipped a temple in the capital to get the extra GP points.
3) What tech next?? Alphabet, math, monarchy????
4) I say this is one of those games to keep an extremely strong military at the costs of the economy. It's really only a matter of time until Shaka comes calling and I really don't want another RPC in the toilet because of him!

which millitary advisor mod is that? i like the threat assessment

looking at the diplomacy either you are going to have to work on your popularity or kill everyone you've met. Go for the latter, they're all in league with the trees!

3) tech path: aim for construction, so math?
alphabet would be a good option is you want to rebuild your diplomacy but you may just have loads of stuff demanded off of you
4) I agree, get some cats and a big enough army then avenge all those lost RPCs.

Stupid question: Didn't you already build it?

Why did you settle the capital by that nasty fresh water? :)

Well since health issues probably wont lend well to any real long run victory, like the UN, Dom, Cultural, or Space race, I suggest just building a whole bunch of military production cities you can afford and get a conquest victory before you fall too far behind in techs.

So I have the shrine already!!!:lol::lol:

I will play the next segment tonight! I have been on vacation the past week and spent alot of time with family. I think I will simply use the next Prophet to bulb theology and punch out some CR II swords . Perhaps I can even get lucky enough to get a third Prophet for a second shrine, unless of course Christianity has been founded already :lol::lol:

As far as victory, I will likely go towars the most entertaining victory condition. It's not much fun to roll over the world with cavalry minimizing Native American Pollution. I need to at least have smog-filled cities producing tanks!

Cultural victory would propably be the hardest one right now. With the unhealthy cities it will be hard to run artists although you have about 9:health: on the continent already. Second religion on the way and maybe even a third. Then when it is taking too long you can always use the sids to increase the culture.

Entertaining, not hard. Killing off Shaka and Napolean then hunkering down to a culture win with minimal polluting buildings sound a bit dull.

I agree, to space in a dirty polluting spaceship!

I'd like to see some very polluted industrial cities before the game is over. You'll need more farms than normally but that's what all those rules are for, to make the game harder and different. Space seems pretty fun since you need production to get it.
