Role Play Challenge: Pollution Bull

madscientist,

This is turning out to be a really great game, and I'm loving it more than usual for the RPCs, which is saying a lot. :)

Some advice, that you probably won't need, but it may come in handy:

Cifted units don't lose their promotions. Thus you can gift a few some Drill IV, City Garrison III units to Shaka's boarder cities. With patiance, you can declare war on Napolean and watch him suicide his stacks into your gifted units onto the boarder Zulu cities. After which, then attack with full force.

Any units in a fortresses function just as if they're in a city. This mean the City Garrison promotion works for fortress defense! While you can't build a fortress inside of a rival's cultural boarders, perhaps you can build one inside of Sitting Bull's boarders***...I'm not sure on this one. I doubt you'll be able to do much with this, but I figured that if you're protective you may be able to use this a bit more than most other leaders. However I do remember Fortresses taking a very long time to build on Marathon (15 turns I believe) so getting 5 workers into a hot spot for 3 turns may not be worth it...then again, it might be.

Edit: ***That should have read "perhaps you can build [a fortress] inside of Shaka's boarders. Insomniac postings for the lose. :p

Great job so far. I'm loving how you wiped out Monty so early, and then how you turned Shaka into your whipping boy. Go go go!

I'm impressed that after killing Shaka, he's actually back up to pleased now. How did that happen?

I'm impressed that after killing Shaka, he's actually back up to pleased now. How did that happen?

Shaka has respect for someone who just put the smackdown on him!

Seriously, there is only -3 diplo penalty for a DOW. There is +5 for shared religion plus there is forced open borders from being a vassal. I often find a defeated vassal becomes my best friend.

you tend to trade a lot with a vassal too and have a defensive pact: + modifier for proving you are close friends!

hit Napoleon fairly soon, it may be worth stationing some well promoted units in Shaka's border cities but I wouldn't bother gifting them to him. Shaka isn't as good at fighting or Mad wouldn't have conquered him in the first place!

I'd like to see the biggest possible cities in this game, with all tiles worked despite the pollution from buildings and such.
I think the food corps are the best way to do that unless you want half your production cities to be farms. State property provides a little extra food from workshops and watermills but I think Sid Sushi can easily beat that. Mining Inc will also help with the Space Race.

*sing* 'Welcome, sulfurdioxide. Hello, carbonmonoxide...' */sing*

Someone remember that one ?

Come on, Mad, I still can see the lands from above in the screenshots, meaning I can see through the air. You can do better with that, can't you ? :D

Pollution Bull: Part VII

We started the next segment by finishing Printing Press, then teching off Military tradition, Replaceable Parts, and Democracy.

The capital has turned into a superb GP farm, popping out the low percentage

BullG0000.jpg

Which we save anticipating founding one of the production corps. I checked the potential of the food corps and Cereal Mills looks to nab us 6 food per city. Remember the RPC rules, we cannot trade for food resources!

The long awaited French declaration occurred

BullG0001.jpg

Which ends this stalemate and Bull decided to do something with that enormous stack in his capital.

BullG0002.jpg

Watch out Napolean, here we come

BullG0003.jpg

So he does not get swamped we offered our Zulu brother this trade

BullG0004.jpg

Meanwhile we clobbered the first French city we came accross

BullG0005.jpg

Napolean sent some troops to attempt a recapture which were essentially slaughtered although we lost quite a few knights. Unfortunately this city eventually culture flipped to Shaka.

Once we got Military Tradition we made a few trades

BullG0006.jpg

BullG0007.jpg

Arround this time Ragnar declared war on Darius, keeping the entire earth lively!

Napolean's military really crumbled fast

BullG0008.jpg

Allowing us to heal (gotta love the medic III unit!)
and invade The French core cities

BullG0009.jpg

BullG0010.jpg

At this point Napolean was willing to talk Vassalage but we wanted a little more.

BullG0011.jpg

Which netted us

BullG0012.jpg

Not a bad haul. To bad the Colossus id obsolete and the Great Lighthouse nearly. By the way, I entered WorldBuilder and removed all the health buildings from the captured French cities.

Finally we have the continent to ourselves.

BullG0013.jpg

So we killed Monty and vassaled Shaka and Napolean! Not bad for a leader with the "weak" Protective trait.

Taking a look at the GP farm

BullG0014.jpg

Because it gave us

BullG0015.jpg

Which we saved for one of the food corps.

We saved our game after we teched Democracy and swapped civics.

BullG0016.jpg

I think we are safe enough to pop out 2 promotion units exclusively from teh HE city (Shaka's former capital).

Techwise we are doing real well and will soon have the lead.

BullG0017.jpg

So the only thing left is to tech our way to space and look for the obnoxious green smell of Progress!

By the Way, all vegetation has been cleared from our lands!

It's a pity this RPC isn't in Civ3, where orange cr*p would cover your lands if you polluted. BTW, do you have any special rules on nukes? They are the biggest polluters in the game after all.

Ha ha, nukes, yeah you might want to go off with a bang. Spread glorious pollution to the masses!

Though depending on what shape your empire is in at that point in the game, you may need to focus all your production on the space ship.

Pollution Bull: Part 8

Just to let everyone know, something incredible happened! Yes, Sitting Bull has gone through a segment with declaring war or preparing for war! What a novel thing!

Really, not much except for teching, infrastructure, and some otehr things!

Techpath went: Corporation/Steam Power/Railroad/Rifling/Biology/Medicine. Yeah, you all can predict what I did here!

FIRST, after teching Steam Power we see

BullH0000.jpg

We got loads of the black polluting stuff! Sitting Bull is quite pleased!

This segment we focused trades with Roosevelt who is a vassal of Pacal!

BullH0001.jpg

And question #2, do we have oil???

BullH0002.jpg

HAHA! Enough coal to blacken our skies and enough oil to turn our rivers into sludge!

We settled one more city int eh middle of alot of open ground.

BullH0003.jpg

We also got a random event that added 3 population here, making this a great late game production city.

Now we already have a GE and GM saved up, but we popped this next

BullH0004.jpg

So we used him for a 3100 gold mission, enough to more than pay for what we are planning, such as

BullH0005.jpg

Mining Inc! +7 hammers per city once we spread it.

We managed to get Physics off a trade with Roosevelt

BullH0006.jpg

And do we have Uranium??

BullH0007.jpg

YOU BET! Our skies will blacken, our water turn brown, and our land glow pale green!

Near the end of the segment we note Pacal is actually ahead of us in power, with Ragnar getting closer. So Sitting Bull opted to be a JERK!

BullH0008.jpg

Go get him Ragnar! We saved here once we

BullH0010.jpg

Founded Sids's! The food return is the same as Cereal Mills and gives us a nice bonus to further pressure our Vassal!

Both corps were founded in the city with the twin Holy Shrines

BullH0011.jpg

Once we get Wall Street built here we will have a great economy!!!!

And a view of our cities

BullH0012.jpg

Pollution is not that much of an issue right now, but that will change.

Techs

BullH0013.jpg

We are doing quite well here! I plan to go after Combustion and Assembly Line next. THAT should bring a great Big SMOG over Native America! After that, Flight/Rocketry/Refridgeration/Superconductors!

Gotta love the twin holy and corp city!

Looking forward for the black skies, brown rivers (eww) and glowing green lands!

Not much advice I can give you (same as ever), except Pacal's starting to look scary...

All in all, this has to be one of my favourite RPCs!

That green stuff near your holy city?
It's had better be toxic, or gone.

You wouldn't want a failed RPC due to natural causes.

Pollution Bull: Part IX

We are (cough) doing quite well (Cough, Cough) here! We have built up a strong (Wheezeeeeee) empire that can out produce the world (air, we need air!). Let's see how the Native Americans (Trees, what's a tree??) are progressing.

Techpath went: Combustion/Assembly Line/Flight/Rocketry/Industrialism and start refridgeration. Once we get superconductors there's not much else that will soil the Native American lands (Thank the gods!).

Things progressed real well, and we got the mega polluting techs

BullI0000.jpg

(Groan!)

And we start spamming factories and coal plants!

And as the People of Native America start dying in the street Sitting Bull grants them extra food from the sea!

BullI0001.jpg

Not building all those health producing buildings certainly allow us alot of extra hammers for corps and military!

Finally we got arround to building Wall Street giving quite a strong gold city

BullI0002.jpg

And without a Grocer!!!!!!!!!!!

Now, about the effects of industrializing

BullI0003.jpg

Now is that a good dose of pollution or what! :D

And here is one post factory/plant city that is doing well

BullI0004.jpg

And one that is not doing so good

BullI0005.jpg

No problem, the excess complainers will die off soon enough!

We avoided trading with Pacal and Darius (both of whom are intent on destroying Ragnar) we continued to trade with Pacal's vassal

BullI0006.jpg

We got the coal plant random event

BullI0007.jpg

+4 hammers to coal plants? You bet!

Finally we max out our Corps

BullI0008.jpg

And thate xtra culture from Sid's will help pressure our vassals quite a bit!

As you can see here, Ragnar has vassaled to Pacal and is no longer a problem.

BullI0009.jpg

In fatc neither leader seams much of a military concern to us at the moment. So I plan on concentrating on Space, but keeping a strong army/navy in case we need to go razing some cultural cities.

We finally get a very key tech

BullI0010.jpg

And we start on producing tanks!

Question, do we build indutrial Parks and continue to smoke out our people or have they had enough

And after indristrialism we find we have three Aluminum resources

BullI0011.jpg

2 need to be hooked up, but one is on-line already to help speed along Apollo in our Iron Works city.

BullI0012.jpg

NOw let's look at our cities

BullI0013.jpg

Most cities have factories/plants/airports.

Techs

BullI0014.jpg

Little concern about losing the space race at this time. The only threat to our game could be

BullI0015.jpg

Still not much, and I plan to have several dozen tanks ready to burn some legondary cities if need be!

Next techs I am looking at refridgeration/superconductors. The last tech I will get is genetics which is unavoidable!

Pollution? Bah, it's an overhyped rumor! The land is there for our taking!

Hook up Coal and get I parks UP
Automate workers to build a trade network/have a route through all tiles
Those forests are trying to make your people healthy

you still have a forest near tenochtitlan, its in the bfc too

That forrest I forgot about for a while, but chopped it for a workshop by the save!
