Role Play Challenge:Ramesses the Intolerant: Battle of the Builders

Intolerant Ramesses and the Battle of the Builders: Part II

Ramesses is definitely one of the strongest and most fun wonderspammers in the game!!!! I don't blame Obsolete one bit for favoring him!

Onto the wonders of the game and the founding of RAMESSESISM!!!!!!!!

Ramesses the Almighty starts the round by finishing off the Great Wall.

RamB0000.jpg

Avoiding problems with Barbs abd allowing us to rely on warriors for now and a few war chariots later. We put all that production into massive wonder building, all the honor our great God-King.

Techpath went Priesthood/Pottery/Monotheism/writing/hunting/sailing/archery/and start math.

After the Great wall we began the pyramids, then swapped to the oracle which quickly led to

RamB0001.jpg

Of course we took Metal Casting for free. Early cheap Forges and a head start on the Colossus in one of the coastal cities!

We soon got our first GP

RamB0002.jpg

well, the price for not fully utilizing the UB right away. Still not bad, and we settled him. I will run prists in the next segment, but for now we focus on population in Thebes.

And surpisingly we finally found

RamB0003.jpg

YES!!!!!!!! Ramsessesism, and we got it ourselves! Ramesses drools over the idea of a shrine, but the rules do dictate settling all specialists. We shall hjave to see whether we need to rethink this, but for now Prophets get settled in Thebes.

And soo after the Oracle

RamB0005.jpg

Can't have a Ramesses wonderspamming game with the old Pyramids! Amazingly took only about 30 turns at marathon speed!

Now there is one issue

RamB0004.jpg

Yes, we lost out on the GL. Delayed sailing way too long, but we cannot have everything!

We changed civics.

RamB0006.jpg

No slavery yet. We are Spiritual and can swap to it just before we need it to avoid all those slave revolts.

We meet the next AI

RamB0007.jpg

Ah, Qin the master of the Backstab! However, come Bureacracy we shall have his favorite civic so maybe he could be a valued ally!

And here is a view of Thebes, just before completion of the ToA wonder.

RamB0008.jpg

Other cities I am developing rather normally, with some early cottages. While I am a fan of Obsoletes ideas, I do think it's better to develope other cities normally and plntifully!

And...

RamB0009.jpg

A grand wonder for this type of game. The free Priest will help alot to get many GPs!.

We built settlers in the other two cities, once we got some triemes (another benefit of early MC!). Our fourth city.

RamB0010.jpg

Right on the Jumbos. Yes I have settled 2 cities so far ontop of resources.

The next leader does not like us so much.

RamB0011.jpg

Apparently there is a strong Buddhist influence in this game. But fear not, we shall teach these unbelievers to fear and cower before the granduer of Ramessessism!!!

And while I prefered NOT to let the MC genei out of the bottle, this deal was just too good to pass up.

RamB0012.jpg

And do we have iron, or are we cursed to have no metals like the earlier Pericles game.

RamB0014.jpg

Of course Ramesse has blessed his people with teh gift of Iron!!

On the same turn we popped our second GP

RamB0013.jpg

A GE, 3 hammers and 6 beakers!!!! All game long!!!

We saved here, and let's look at where we are at

RamB0015.jpg

So far doing very well in tech! representation is overpowered this early, especially when we are getting those beakers from only settled GPs so far!

Ramesses is a little perturbed seeing one city missing Ramessesism!

RamB0016.jpg

And cities.

RamB0017.jpg

Note we have only 30 turns left for the Colossus. Hopefully Qin is still building a forge and we can outrace him to it.

So here we are! 5 cities already, with spots for at least 3 more good ones. Perhaps a few islands somewhere.

So the list

1) Some defense to "deter" the Ais from eying all of Ramesses's nice shiney wonders.

2) Spamming Missionaries to at least Bismark, and perhaps Qin (if I can find him). Ramesses certainly wants more followers, and some allies cannot hurt.

3) Next of the great wonder hit list! Well, with math I say an aqueduct and the HG. Then hit the Aesthetics/Literature route.

4) Find the GLH owner.

Bow and honor the Great Ramesses!!!!

for my 2 cents I think using one prophet for a shrine won't be breaking the rules, Ramessess does like big shiny Ramessesss honouring things

Nothing wrong with a shrine but you'd want to make sure it gets spread around enough to be worthwhile... the raw gold vs. 5 gold, 2 hammers and 3 beakers.

Victory - 1915. I hope we don't need manhattan/SDI or a lvl 6 unit, as those are the only wonders (and 1 non ramesses shrine) that I don't have.

Spoiler :
1862 - DOW Inca
1864 HC attacks and takes antium. That had a wonder in it. I must get it back.
1867 Of course I take it back by now. And 2 of HC's cities.
1871 Aw, crap. He has tanks. Wait, I can make them too. Good thing I have 107 infantry and 71 artillery though. Wouldn't want to lose or anything. Maybe that's why he'll capitulate already? But I need to get some wonders!
1874 Internet in Thebes. Going for space elevator and SDI just because I missed earlier wonders. I still have a strong capitol though.
1875 Arty OWN. Even against tanks, if they have CR you don't lose many until mech infantry. Which I have access to now. HC doesn't. I can already win UN so I need to hurry up and take these wonders!
1881 Egyptian forces march into the legendary Cuzco. Not many wonders left to take now...! Actually the last 2 are in Tiwanaku, which is being closed on.
1885 EGYPT HAS EVERY WONDER IN THE WORLD!
1886 Completed Apollo. What's this? HC won't capitulate now? Well then...DIE! At least until I end this with the UN.
1888 China has captured its 2nd city from HC lol
1891 China gets ANOTHER city
1893 Inca is GONE.
1894 I can't build manhattan because nuclear weapons are BANNED. Ok fine. I'll just end the game.
1901 Final GP popped - another artist
1904 I culture flip a barb city on the marble island ^_^.
1907 Oh wait. That wasn't a culture flip. Germany captured it and "returned control" to me. Odd. He also gives me navajo on that island.
1909 Space elevator and Rushmore completed.
1913 Red cross done...that's all the national wonders I can build (no west point as I never got a lvl 6, and no manhattan/SDI. I have ALL other wonders. I'm tired of this game so I'm ending it.
1915 UN victory. Highlights:

Turn before victory:

for my 2 cents I think using one prophet for a shrine won't be breaking the rules, Ramessess does like big shiny Ramessesss honouring things

Rules:

3) All wonders MUST be controlled by the end of the game. This includes projects, but not Corp HQs or Holy city shrines except the Shrine of Ramessesism which he must have! Thus we are looking at a late game victory.

I think making a shrine in his religion is OK :nuke: :king: :goodjob:.

3) All wonders MUST be controlled by the end of the game. This includes projects, but not Corp HQs or Holy city shrines except the Shrine of Ramessesism which he must have! Thus we are looking at a late game victory.

I'm assuming that this means all wonders that have already been built at whatever point you're able to achieve a victory. Hypothetically, if you can get a domination victory in 1800 and you control all existing wonders, you shouldn't be forced to screw around delaying your win just so you can build a few more undiscovered wonders.

I think mad is planing to play the game until all wonders and projekts has been built. The Bismark game had a delayed UN vicotry until Space Elevator was built if I remember corectly and Napoleon built the space elevator before victory aswell.

In my game i go for space race wictory with all the wonders built.

here is my game's short summary, part II (till 1580) :

Spoiler :

I finished last part by the French attacking me. The war eventually ended by an event. At least i got a great general which was used to get a lvl 6 unit so i could start building the west point soon.
I concentrated to get the tanks asap when another war started: 3 big nations- the Germans (with a pleased bismark...) the French and the Incas and all thier vassals declared war on me together. In these wars i had to spend like 6000 gold to upgrade my warriors and other obsolete units, with the new infantry units i was able to defend myself. Btw my sience slider was and is on 100% since i could trade techs for money. i get lots of money from backwards civilizations to fuel my research even these days when the balance is -300 gold/turn.
My revenge came in 1500 AD when my tanks attacked Berlin. The victory was fast but not without losses. The germans boldly attacked and destroyed some of my tanks with cannons and cavalries. In the end i got 3 of their biggest city and we made peace.
The wonder i got from them allowed me to get any religious civic so finally i switched to OR.. actually i should have done it some time ago as pacifism no longer worth it.
Next target was China the most advanced. interetingly they were quite weak in military strenght. the war ended very fast with their capitulation (1550)
Around 1580 i attacked Rome, i took all of their continental cities with the wonders.
Now it's peace again, i prepare my forces against the last big enemy, the Incas
At this time i'm building the Rock&roll, Hollywood and United nations wonder. i have finished the Eiffel tower in my capital ( i have 7-8 wonders there and other 4-5 in my other cities).

About state property: it seems powerfull, maybe i will switch but as long as i can hold my science on 100% FM is better for me. In my usual games i usually have a small empire so state property not so usefull for me

I just had to play a shadow game, love the wonderspam.

Spoiler :

Mon/Normal Space@1948AD
I wasn't adhering to the RPC rules, cause i;m a rebel. ;)

However cottages are for cottagers, therfore i never built a single one.

My stategy was wonderspam / SE, mainly a OCC with 7 extra cities.

Rammy-760AD-World0000.jpg

The above shows the power of settle GP, UoS in 4 turns.

MAD-capt-ss0000.jpg

Building a SS engine in 4 turns? YES WE CAN!!

MAD-cap-SS010000.jpg

1039 Hammers per turn - YES WE CAN!!

Civ4ScreenShot0021.jpg

Quim with his silly trade proposals, Wouldn't trade Ecology - He wanted to win the game. not seen that reason before.

MAD_overview10010000.jpg

My aquired German lands - that will teach him to cheek me - the mighty ramsess

MAD_Overview0000.jpg

The homeland

MAD-Diplo0000.jpg

close one there with Mr Quim. Damn the backdoor bandit.

MAD-Victory0000.jpg

Finally Victory.

Despite Quim stealling my techs i left him and his huge power rating in the dust. Let this be an example of the uslessness of cottages.

Moral of the story leave the cottaging to George Micheal!

Great game so far Mad, keep up the good works.

I think that the rule about holding the Shrine to Ramessesism trumps the rule about settling all GPs. After all, what self-respecting God King wouldn't found a shrine to himself?

Intolerant Ramesses and the Batle of the Builders: Part III

Can you say WONDERSPAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We played a very peaceful and expansionistic segment here, claiming nearly all wonders to the Glory of our Almighty Egyptian God-King!

To begin, the heaven's opening up and showed Ramesses with favors

RamC0000.jpg

A new source of deer, all setup and ready to eat!

And while we establish our glorious empire we accept Bismark's offer of extortion

RamC0001.jpg

He's our nearest neighbor and frankly we want good relation with our neighbor's, for now!

we start pounding out wonders, trying to work those that I usually see the AIs build fast, such as

RamC0002.jpg

And we managed to get

RamC0003.jpg

The only wonder NOT built in Thebes, but understandably in the Holy City of Ramessesism!

We met Mr. Pratorian himself

RamC0004.jpg

Who made several demands that we ignored.

Slamming down another wonder

RamC0005.jpg

Now I am not sure if this adds to our Power numbers, but I would think most AIs will avoid attacking because of it.

We meet Louis

RamC0007.jpg

We simply open borders with all Ais we meet. We are willing to allow all to come and freely woprship and adore Ramesses and allow Ramessesism to spread to their fair cities!

And before 1 AD we land

RamC0008.jpg

Hmmmm, techpath! Oh yeah

Math/Aesthetics/Lit/Theology (As Christianity was founded early)/Calendar/CoL/Start Music.

We started feeding Ramessesism missionaries into German lands and a view of the situation.

RamC0009.jpg

Good, not bad at all. And Bismark keeps trying to beg iron from us, which we refuse.

Justinian was founded as a colony, interupting our grand streak of all Industrious leaders. Damned riff-raff.

So when we teched Theology we immediately went to build the AP, and a view of Thebes city screen.

RamC0011.jpg

Yes, and we have yet to really start working teh SSE aspect much.

We did make a trade with Agustus.

RamC0012.jpg

And pretty soon.

RamC0013.jpg

Ramesses is quite pleased with his new residence!

And yes the world is Buddhist which has it's benefits as

RamC0014.jpg

Yes, we can elect ourselves The Supreme Being and lord of all the world! No competition here, so far.

As far as GPs, we got another GE whih we settled and then.

RamC0015.jpg

Which we used for

RamC0016.jpg

Seriously, for the RPC Ramesses really desearves his own Shrine, ple=us the added gold certainly helps. And with a base of the holy city/shrine/colossus we have a decent second core cultural city.

Now spreading Judaism to Bismark has certainly helped to see his cities. Especially this one.

RamC0017.jpg

So we are losing the race to the Mausoleum! Fear not, we chopped a few Forrests and soon.

RamC0019.jpg

HA HA!!!!! Using espionage to spy on Bismark and steal a wonder right away from him. Also means one less AI I HAVE to attack.

Right after this wonder though the Parthenon was built overseas! Well, we delayed that one much too long.

we saved here, a view of the tech situation

RamC0020.jpg

Wonderspamming rolling!!!! HC and Qin are our only real competition here although we have yet to meet FDR or Stalin. Still we have missed only TWO wonders

GLH: Built by HC
Parthenon: Built by Qin.

SO I will bide my time there and home to convert some allies to Ramessesism or allow FR to break the Buddhist love-fest.

And considering the religious discrepencies

RamC0021.jpg

Still doing real nice here!

And finally cities

RamC0022.jpg

OK, where we are

1) Military: Right now I am getting a wall/archer/axe/war chariot into each coastal city for defense.

2) Keep the wonders coming in Thebes

3) Continue teching all those Wonder techs. Currency takes a backseat here!

4) Diplomacy, Diplomacy, Diplomacy. And continued spreading teh good word of Ramessesism!

Enough for tonight!

Wow, a colony in 40BC? Interesting that he's still forced to be a vassal even though nobody knows what that means yet (i.e. no Feudalism.)

Also, Augustus is in WHEOOHRN but he might be gunning for France rather than you since Louis is his worst enemy; he also doesn't appear to have iron yet which limits the threat.

Ha ha, way to make yourself become ostracized by a buddhist block. Spamming missionaries around and converting your closest neighbors will be a very worthwhile endevour.

Also I never heard Bismarck's line before, that in the regular game? I can't help but think Futurama. :p (the x makes it sound cool)

You're doing well here. Believe me mad, life is so much easier to beat the challenge the way you're getting so many of these wonders :p. Nice showcase of it too.

So why should currency take a backseat? You have enough trading material. Trade currency with augustus and then get a load of cash by selling literature and netting in meditation. Monasteries are going to rule right now with the AP and sistine chapel (and the upcoming spiral minaret and UoS). Besides the 10% research boost is also nice.

I have finished my "shadow game" too.. actually my fully build spaceship only on its way but it was 3 am in the morning and i needed some sleep :)

Here is my game's short summary, part III - with some pictures

Spoiler :

without going into too much detail: i have continued to conquer all the wonders from the world. The inca war was short, like 3 turns.
Next i have landed 16 tanks in France and 8 in Russia (i needed only 1-1 city) to my big and unpleasnt suprise i have LOST both war... i couldnt belive my eyes when the french cannons and cavalries decimated my tanks.. like 4 of their units attacked my 2 fully healed tanks ( my army was in small stacks to reduce collateral dmg) 2 cannon attacks, both retreat then 2 cavalry scores a win on my tanks... same thing happened in Russia. My whole army was destroyed i had to start building a new one...
In 1750 finally i had all the existing wonders of the world. from that point i stopped moving my units and microing my cities. only concentrated on finishing the spaceship and the remaining wonders

In 1828 i have lauched my fully built space ship, estimated arrival in 1858.
At that time i was already researching the first future tech. my balance was positive even at 100% research.
I had 10 wonders in my capital + i have built several projects there like internet, Manhattan project, Apollo program, SDI
I have settled 21 great person + 2 great general ( a 22th will born b4 my sship lands), had 1000+ research just in my capitol :)
This ype of game was not new for me, since i play all my games like this, with a few exceptions:
- I concentrate on research even more instead of production
- no way i would settle my great engineers when they could build a wonder :)

i played a OCC game once where my only city had 1700+ research. it came from settled GPs, there was not a single cottage :)

here are the pictures:

My capitol:

My land:

Currency will be an excellent tech to trade for. It gives another trade route and you have the Temple of Artemis ;). It also lets you build a market for at least +1 happy from ivory and you seem to be limited by happiness. Thebes has to really big and glorious as well as having loads of shiny wonders.

A real pity you are not allowing yourself an academy with the all-specialists-must-be-settled-rule, that would an obvious build in the capital with all those Rep beakers flying around. What national wonders do you plan for Thebes? It seems NE and Oxford would be good choices or will you wait for Iron Works?

I guess your rules do not allow you to spread other religions to your capital yourself? (for the monastery 10% and the temple +1 happy). What happens if another AI does that? I've had that occur several times in BtS, an AI will send its missionary to my capital even when I have an established state religion. Then he tries to get me to switch, which you'll refuse of course ;)

I prefer to concentrate the artist wonders in a separate city. That also frees up your capital a little.

You're entering the second busiest phase if you want to collect all the wonders, there's paya, chichen itza, great library, etc. Then it gets light (just sankore and versailles).

I think you might have been better off getting paya for organized religion.

Light???? What about the Hagia Sophia, Taj Mahal, Spiral Minaret, Oxford university (definitely capital) and Notre Dame besides Sankore and Versailles. And he is already running OR from the start almost.

But what I am missing is the Parthenon. Was that one build by the others?? Otherwise it should become a big priority to be honest. Especially with all the wonderhogging.

Qin got the Parthenon. I kept delaying it, preferring the wonders the AI typically build (Sometimes the Parthenon goes very late). He is just north of Bismark, so I think befriendly the German as a route and Allie into Chinese lands is the way to go.

The only other Wonder I have missed so far is the GLH which was built by Hyuna. And I have yet to locate him.

To discuss Currency a bit. Yes it's very valuable but here is my thinking

1) We have only a few cities right now, the extra trade routes are not that big a deal. Plus the trade route we already have is fairly lucrative considering all the trades with AIs are intercontinental.

2) Once the AI has Currency, I can still trade for cash (I did trade Lit to Hyuna for almost 600 gold already).

3) Currency is a deadend Wonder tech. Yes I know it's needed for other things, but it's not unlocking any wonders right now.

4) we have caste system and representation, so our economy can rely alot on the SE game. But at the moment our tech rate is not exactly poor, it's pretty dominating.

Don't get me wrong, I will get Currency probably in the next segment (or trade for it ) but techs like Music, Fuedalism, Paper, Civil Service I see as more important for this particular game.
