Role Play Challenge TNG: Askia, The Brute

A surprise assault on Rome by amphibious elephants would solve that pesky culture problem. You can't go wrong with amphibious elephants. :D

I don't like the culture pressure from Portugal...and when you're at it getting france and germany would be good too ;-)

Dunno how many troops you have in spain, but you could claim portugal before cats? I wouldnt wait until all AIs get feud from Egypt

If i was in your position id just focus on conquering europe, Egypt although technologically advanced has a certain lack of resources that once europe is consolidated under the "benevolent" rule of the songhai will make Egypt much easier to conquer. You'll have the bountiful resources of europe which combined with tech trading should allow you to surpass the Egyptian technologically and then once your ready add her to Askia's harem of conquered queens.

ha, take that reconquista! i'd keep beating the ones that can't defend theirselves properly, like joao (hate him anyway). egypt won't make a good target anyway for a long time now...

btw, what is shaka doing? isnt he mad at someone?

Adding the Beautiful Ramesses to Askia's Harem??? Please, Askia is not that kind of guy. Also I am disappointed to find the deterstable Stalin in charge of Russia instead of Catherine.

I guess Askia is limited to the British isles now if he wants to find more women!

uhm, well, british girls ... erm.. 33% chance of getting a acceptable looking one, unless askia takes churchills hat and pretend that he's a girl.

nonetheless, i'd also advise you to march towards northern europe

1. Kill BigHat
2. Get Charly and his buddhist Holy City
3. Build the shrine with Oracle's prophet - your research sucks, Mad ;)

Great job so far mad, attacking the culture pressure guys is a good idea, but i'd keep an eye on Shaka, we don't want him to wreck another RPC...

Imo, you should have taken out Hannibal then Rameses, later moving into the Middle East and India. Europe could have waited, as most of those civs won't be a major factor as they have no room to expand.

It's not the threat those civs pose that sends mad north, but the opportunity. A large number of small weak civs in an area of particularly fertile ground is an amaxing place to expand. There is little challange in each Civ, and you can begin a snowball effect as you gain more and more good land. The more he conquers there, the more powerful he'll be against the larger civs in asia and africa.

Played the next segment and trust me, this is tough no matter what I do. The land is just real terrible for production and culture pressure is a problem.

However, askia is not exactly the best planner or smartest (hence why he's a Civ V leader and not a Civ IV leader).

Expect the next post tomorrow then likely you'll need to wait as I have real life issues to deal with.

I've been playing along, and imo he should have gone eastward as there are an abundance of floodplains to cottage after killing Rameses, Gilgamesh and Hammurabi (I didn't see anything about not setting down cottages), quite a bit more land to settle than that of Europe and quite a few happiness resources that way.

Plus he'd have to deal with a lot less cultural pressure, whereas going after Europe right away almost necessitates constant warring just to make your newly captured cities productive which, judging from MS's non-existent economy, probably isn't the overall best idea at the moment.

That and he takes out a few techers along the way, which makes the game easier in the long-run.

You are correct!

However, it is an RPC and the Brute saw Hannibal closer, followed by Isabella.

Doh... i havent played the all civs map and i assumed hatshepsut was in charge. oh well i suppose you can add ramesses to your harem if you are so inclined ;)

Askia, the Brute: Struggles to gain a European Foothold and the Fall of Rome

Askia was happy, but troubled. His army took a beating taking the Spanish dame and needed to be rebuilt, and unfortunately he needed to rely on the low production Songhai core. While Hannibal provided an excellent trainer of troops and his new advice on war elephants is brilliant, the production of his former lands was abysmal especially with the European culture pressure.

Research was continued towards Horseback riding.

Meanwhile, the citizans were concerned with the Zulu, perhaps because of their leader ruthless appearance and reputation, So Askia met with Shaka

AskiaD0000.jpg

And opened borders. In fact Askia opened borders with most leader now.

Being a European leader now resulted in new leaders being met

AskiaD0001.jpg

Elizabeth blushed while the Songhai brute looked her up and down, a grand addition to his collection some day.

Next

AskiaD0002.jpg

The Chinese leader gave Askia some materials to read. The illiterat Askia glanced at what was in his hand and dropped it.

Next was the German leader

AskiaD0003.jpg

Finally

AskiaD0004.jpg

Askia made a detour in research here, going after Code of LAws to bring some order to West Africa. And while Currency would help more, that was addressed by

AskiaD0005.jpg

AskiaD0006.jpg

Commerce increased as Askia built a new army.

In addition, askia traded anything he could for gold to keep research up, and made one additional tech trade.

AskiaD0007.jpg

Leaving finances at

AskiaD0008.jpg

Another leader was met

AskiaD0009.jpg

Ruthless, brutal, dispicable, untrustworthy, and bad-smelling. Askia liked him at the start, a leader after his own heart!

War-preparation was further delayed after volcanic activity on the Western Coast

AskiaD0010.jpg

Construction of catapults and war-elephants continued while axes and swords were delayed.

Askia faced even more troubles as the City of ISabella

AskiaD0011.jpg

Flipped to the Portugese scum. Isabella was now forced to endure the disgusting dapper Joaoa rather than the brutal embrace of the Songhai barbarian. Askia told her patience, he shall return (er one day).

More distant leaders were met

AskiaD0012.jpg

And after Code of LAws, decisions were needed

AskiaD0013.jpg

Askia opted for Metal CAsting for eventual crossbows.

CoL did offer some trade options

AskiaD0014.jpg

Of course Songhain has no calender resources, but still.

AskiaD0015.jpg

and Askia has no desire for the Aesthetic things in life, but still.

Next, the Babylonians were met

AskiaD0016.jpg

And the Khmer

AskiaD0017.jpg

But what of Askia's Military Ambitions

AskiaD0018.jpg

The Portugese have Longbows and look well protected, the Romans appear to be an easier target at the moment

To Be Continued.....

Askia, the Brute: Struggles to gain a European Foothold and the Far of Rome

Askia needs a better hold in Europe and the Culture pressure on The City of Hannibal to high, so

AskiaD0019.jpg

Legonds of the mighty Roman Prats appear to be just that, legend.

AskiaD0020.jpg

They provided little defense against war elephants, especially after being weakened by catapults.

However, the city of Rome appears quite packed

AskiaD0021.jpg

Yes, this will help Askia, if he can hold off the Holy Roman Culture.

As far as Agustus, he strode up to Askia who was seated in Romes throne. Agustus looks Askia in the eye and says "It is a good day to die", he then falls to one knee, places his hand on Askia's thigh, lifts his head up meeting Askia's eyes and exposing his throat, and waits.

A councilor advices Askia about the Roman culture thumbs up or down, life or death.

Askia is impressed with the Roman's courage and bravado, as well as the wise citizans of the city, it's mighty Academy, and majestic walls surrounding the empire.

Askia gives the thumbs up sign, Agustus is surpirsed but maintains his dignity. He rises and pledges his support.

Askia appoints Augusts as an advisor, obviously his military knowledge is poor but his wisdom. Yes, Askia could use his wisdom. He offers to remane the city Agustus CAesar, or perhap CAesar for short. The former Roman leader shakes his head, It is Rome, Rome shall endure forever. So the name remained.

Agustus came to Askia on his own the next day, as the Songhai leader contemplated his next move and reflecting if his early dicisions to invade CArthage was wise and not the plush Egyptian lands. Agustus hears Askia, and give Askia some words

LUCTOR ET EMERGO

Seeing the confused look in Askia's eyes he smiles and wispers in Askia's ear the meaning.

Askia laughes' clasping Agustus on the shoulder. THAT is true! Come we have more work to do.

Immediately, the potential of the City of Carthage increased.

AskiaD0022.jpg

With food and production Askia now has a second military city. Hannibal continues to direct military buildup.

A bonus on the Rome conquest is that Askia now has a city under the AP faith, Hinduism.

AskiaD0023.jpg

Next Machinery is discovered

AskiaD0024.jpg

And research begun on Fuedalism, mostly for trade bait.

After only one turn, this trade was offered Askia

AskiaD0026.jpg

Civil Service was researched as ASkia changed civics

AskiaD0027.jpg

The Songhai rested now, and Askia missed his Spanish Concubine. However, important business was underway as Hannibal directed the military as Agustus offered his advice on research.

The cities show Askia's emphasis at the moment.

AskiaD0028.jpg

Technology shows some issues

AskiaD0029.jpg

AskiaD0030.jpg

AskiaD0031.jpg

Nothing much of use except for the pacifist Philosphy.

Askia also ponders the idea of adopting a faith

AskiaD0032.jpg

Because the AP has a say in matters now

AskiaD0033.jpg

The biggest concern at the moment is the state of Rome. It is under immense culture pressure from the Holy Romans and Askia swears NOT to lose Agustus and his advise like he lost the Spanish wench. The problem is Charlemagne is a vassal of the much bigger Germanic tribe.

So Askia continues his buildup and ponders who to strike at next. A bold move against the Holy Romans or to free Isabella and claim the Portugese empire.
