Role Play Challenge TNG: Askia, The Brute

I've been lurking your RPCs for a couple months now, love them!

I tend to hold grudges, I'd go for Portugal. And off with his head, he's been spoiling your woman for many years now!! No advisory position for him!

Solidify the West. Free Izzy, claim portugal. Then claim France and the British Isles, before the large assault on HRE and Germany.

I'd lean Hindu at the moment, to at least ensure Rameses doesn't backstab you.

I would be more concerned about the Shaka backstab, not sure if Hinduism will prevent it but it won't hurt. What are the chances of bribing a Shaka-Ramses feud into existence?

My prediction is that your dalliances in Europe before cleaning up your own back yard will prove to be a fatal error. But no turning back now! How about talking to Shaka and seeing if he is willing to declare on a common Buddhist euro-enemy to earn some mutual struggle points. let him choose the target!

OK, expect next update tomorrow.

I will say one thing, playing the map as CArthage and then owning Mansa early is a hell of a lot easier than this path.

Askia the Brute: Conquest of Iberia

Askia thought long and hard, Rome was a foothold in Europe but Agustus had as much hold on his former capital as Isabella had. No, he would not make that same mistake, so he began a slow troop buildup, utilizing the City of Hannibal and Gao. Catapults/Swords/War Elephants.

As Civil Service was researched to unlock Macemen, Askia sought temporary Allies

Askia adopted Hinduism, creating a Middle eastern/African Alliance versus much of Europe.

Distant leaders continue to be discovered.

And soon some tech trading became available.

FINALLY

AskiaE0004.jpg

Unlocking MAcemen.

Research options were

AskiaE0005.jpg

Askia decided to research Engineering for pikes, trebs, and potentially castles if he ever got arround to building any walls.

At this point Askia dropped the Science slider to 0% and made a fire sale on Literature and Drama for gold.

Meanwhile, more trades are made

AskiaE0007.jpg

And Askia swaps out civics

AskiaE0008.jpg

Songhai is now producing some well promoted troops.

In a mere few turns Askia has plenty of excess gold

AskiaE0009.jpg

And a fast upgrade is made for his veteran swordmen.

On top of that, a Great Merchant is born

AskiaE0010.jpg

Which is sent off to Arabia on a trade mission netting nearly 2000 gold.

Still, additional tech trades were made

AskiaE0014.jpg

And Askia's war-machine is sent westward to liberate Isabella. Hannibal was proud of his mighty War Elephants and Agustus had many words of wisdom in how the new lands could be held.

Joao is given the bad news

AskiaE0015.jpg

Portugal produced no resistance, Askia lost nothing in the Iberian War.

AskiaE0019.jpg

War was fast, maces destroyed the defending Longbows. Joao was brought to face Askia, most assumed the Portugese leader was a dead man and wagers were made on his method of executions.

However, Askia smiled, wispered something into Joao's ear that started the Portugese leader uncontrolably laughing and the former Spanish Queen Blushing yet not displeased.

Askia turned serious and led Joao to his former Palace's window which faced west. The leaders talked, no longer enemies but with a common goal. Soon the deal was struck, Lisbon is to be renamed Port Joao and designated the naval production city of the Songhai empire once the locals were placated.

Askia left to review the status of the Songhai Empire but took a small detour to the City of Isabella to catch up on "business".

So while Askia is giving his COncubine a workout, let's review where to go next.

The Map of the Iberian area

Shows a heavy culture pressure on Rome, Agustus will need reinforcements soon to prevent any further revolts.

The cities continue to emphasize Military

And a review of the Songhai empire

So where to go next?

Looks like either Charlemagne and his German overlord or DeGaulle and the Chinese.

Then again perhaps a daring naval assault on the northern wenches, Askia seams to tire of Isabella.

The Chinese?

I say De Gaulle, then the German civs, then England. Secure your western flank and move east into russia.

I am worried that you are taking advantage of your unequal power relationship with Isabella. Is it possible she is acting out of fear, rather than genuine affection? I think you should do the decent thing and marry her. Every king needs a queen after all.

Besides that, well played. And long may the Songhai's rise continue!

@babar

that's not how real politics goes.
Askia should marry some eastern princess (Arabia). No real power in marrying someone you already have in harem (ehm did I say harem? for that we really need more princesses!)

well done... HRE+Germany for sure...you will get those buddhist scum. Then France. Or when you're at it France and HRE and Germany at once...

DeG first. It'll take long enough for any Chinese or Khmer troops to reach you that they'll be hopelessly obsolete when they do arrive, or you'll be able to buy peace by then.

yeah ... force DeG to submit first ... neither China or Khmer is anywhere close enough to be dangerous ... and it's proberly possable to make at least one civ inbetween you guys to close borders anyways :p ... after France i'd proberly go expand the Harem on the Brittish Isles

I'd take out the Germans (including HRE) after France, to relieve the cultural pressure you're facing in Europe. Elizabeth can wait for you that long...

long may songhai reign! joao beaten! the scourge of the earth whiped out! YAY!

the german civs both are tough enemies, but they're even tougher when you wait too long. so yeah, i'd go after them asap.

Was de Gaulle considerate enough to build Stonehenge for you? I know Louis has an inexplicable penchant for that wonder on the standard map. It would be a nice wonder to capture, since it means your new cities are creating culture immediately, and don't need to spend their first several turns building monuments.

On the other hand, Rome looks like it's in immediate danger of flipping, so perhaps it makes sense to take out Charlemagne and Otto first, and then go after France and Holland.

Charlemagne then Germany would probably be the best.

But I'd love to see the daring naval assault into England!! They wouldn't be expecting that!!

Brilliant RPC and game Mad, thoroughly enjoying the series and good to see you back here.

Off-topic question: I'm going to download the combined 40 Civ + Bug Mod, do I also need to download a map to play the game (presumably the Earth34Civ one)? Sorry, I'm pretty much a noob at maps/mods side of things.

Thanks in advance
