Moderator Action:
We should usually not have user specific discussion, but this special case deserve it.

After Plotinus gave ONE infraction to Ronning, Ronning decided to show an extraordinary maturity by replacing ALL his messages in ALL his thread with a diatrib against Plotinus.

First, this is public discussion of moderator action, and this it not tolerated. Especially when it is repeated dozens of time!

Second, by doing it he rendered all his threads useless.

To clean the pollution (one page and a half of useless threads in the complete graphics subforum, I have deleted all of them.

From what he wrote, it seems he doesn't intend to come back.

Therefore, if you are searching for Ronning graphics, they are now GONE.

This thread is not to discuss this event, the mod or Ronning actions, but to explain why you won't find his posts / threads if you search them.

If you have anything to say please use PM.

Please read the forum rules: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=422889

I'll do that if necessary.

However, without discussing the mod actions in that case, perhaps some of you could have some general comments or questions. So I'll keep it opened for a few days.

Unless it degenerates of course.

There's a German saying: "Reisende soll man nicht aufhalten".

It means something like: Don't stand in a traveller's way, if he wants to go, let him go. Don't expect us to care.

I doubt he will abandon his mod. It will most likely be released (in 3-4 years) on a different forum - apolyton maybe. So when it'll be out, those who really wanted to can get it from there. :) (unless he gets banned from there too)

Btw, Plotinus is awsome.

Plotinus is indeed awesome :).

Au revoir, Ronning, shame that it had to end the way it did.

Moderator Action: After discussing his case with the other mods, I've granted 2 PDMA infractions points for every post Ronning manually edited to flam Plotinus and I had to delete. He now has 570 points, expiring in 2025.
I know you are all sensible people, so I don't expect any further PDMA any time soon, don't forget you can always PM a mod if you are not happy, or try to PM another mod if you need a mediator.

Please read the forum rules: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=422889

Wow, one should be carefull not to upset the mods in this place :)
I'm only applying the rules ...

But I'm ready to be lenient if he does some redeeming effort, I could reduce the ban by a few weeks.

Oh well... It is his loss not being a part of the online civ community. I can't imagine what Plotinus could have said that could have upset him so much, but I'm sure that it wouldn't have been undeserved.

I've granted 2 PDMA infractions points for every post Ronning manually edited...

What, may I ask, is a 'PDMA' infraction?

Public Discussion of Moderator Action.

If you receive an infraction or whatever, you are not allowed to discuss it in public. You should PM the moderator, and try to settle it with him. If it doesn't work, try another mod as mediator, or an admin.

If you are still not happy, try Thunderfall.

If you are still not happy, you are screwed :D.

To be honest, I think the whole thing was thrown way out of proportion. If I am correct, a moderator will tell someone when they are breaking a given forum rule, and if they continue, then they could be given an infraction. Granted there is free speech, but it needs to kept to a point according to what the thread is discussing... and without such a system, things would not be as 'civilized' (no pun intended) as they are (with trolls and bandits and all).
Other Civ3 forums have similar rules as well, so it's a shame he decided to leave, but it just brings to the table 'please respect the rules of websites you post on'.

Just to explain a little for people who did not follow it from the beginning.

Plotinus deleted a post from Ronning, a relatively long rant about socialism (I think, I did not read it in details), right in the middle of completed graphics, and send a message to Ronning asking him not to post such threads at C&C, put to do it in Off Topic.

And Ronning engage in his crusade against the evil oppression of the mod dictatorship and his limitation of freedom of speech...

Well, apparently Ronning is overly touchy. Plot is an eminently rational moderator.

Anyway, even though his threads are all deleted, are some of his units (nature ones, right?) still in the downloads database? I don't know how to search that database; I only get there by linking in from the thread itself.
